Szép jó napot! Öröm hallani újra rólatok! Sok-sok idő telt el mire kijutottatok az alagútból :). Mi történt veletek, mennyire vontátok ki magatokat a zenélésből?
2002-ben elkezdtem Hamburg Records nevű cégemet, és azt építgettem. Ez elég sok időt elvett, aztán azon kaptuk magunkat, hogy már több éve nem adtunk ki új lemezt. Mivel viszont a Hamburg Records egy menedzsment és merchandise cég, és más bandáknál is producer vagyok, nagyon közel maradtam a zenei színtérhez.
Sokan megkerestek és felkértek, hogy szeretnének titeket újra látni és hallani?
Kaptunk felkéréseket, de nem éltünk velünk. Csak a tavalyi romániai visszatérő koncertünkön léptünk fel újra. Tökéletesen illett terveinkhez, és egyértelmű lépés volt számunkra.
Mikor kaptatok újra erőre? Mennyire volt nehéz újra lendületet venni és nekilátni az új albumnak?
Nem ez volt a cél. Az elmúlt 13 év alatt végig írtam dalokat, de nem adtunk ki albumot. Aztán hirtelen rájöttem, hogy ez az anyag amit írok, ez PYOGENESIS. Innentől kezdve minden gyorsan ment, megírtuk a lemezt, leszerződtünk egy kiadóhoz, és leszerveztünk pár jó koncertet.
A lemez a „A Century In The Curse Of Time” címet kapta és nagyon ötletes a köré épülő koncepció. Gőzgép feltalálása a burzsoázia felemelkedése a 19. században és a tudományos irodalom mind-mind megtalálható a zenétekben. Miért ezt választottátok?
Érdekel a történelem úgy általában – főleg az európai történelem. Az elsöprő változások még jobban, mint maga a gőzgép. Az óra például átvette a Nap szerepét, mikor az időről volt szó. Az embereknek időben be kellett érniük a gyárakba, el kellett érniük a vonatukat, és stb. De a filozófusok is más szemmel kezdték el látni a világot, a saját szemeikkel. És szabadon írhattak róla. A gyerekeket fiatal felnőttként kezdték kezelni. A „gyermekkor” kifejezés azóta sem létezik igazán. A gyerekeknek írt egyik legelső könyv a Struwwelpeter volt, melyet egy német doktor írt és Mark Twain fordította angolra. Ha ma olvasod el, elég brutálisnak tűnhet. A szabó az ujját szopó fiú ujjait hatalmas ollókkal vágja le. Vagy ahogy Paulinchen teljesen elég, a húsa és a haja is, míg csak egy maréknyi hamu marad belőle. Ezek a témák mind visszaköszönnek a lemez szövegeiben, a borító pedig a téma mechanikai/technológiai részét tükrözi – az egyértelmű, látható dolgokat. A változások pedig sokkal nagyobbak voltak, mint amiket mi élünk most át a számítógépekkel, internettel és okostelefonokkal. Annyira érdekes, hogy nem lehet csupán egy számot írni egy egész évszázadról. Nekünk pedig van mondandónk, egy bemutatásra váró borító, és egy egész világ, melybe belemerülhetsz.
Figyelitek a mai világ feltalálásait, jövő tudományait?
Alig. De ha olyan dolgokról beszélsz nekünk, mint az internet, tudjuk mi az. Egyszerűen csak nem követjük nyomon a találmányokat. Az album pedig nem csak a 19. század találmányairól szól, hanem azokról, melyek megváltoztatták a világot. Szóval annyira egyértelmű az, hogy ismerjük őket, mint ahogy napjaink világmegváltó találmányait is ismerjük, nem?
A zene egy erősen visszakanyarodó, ami egyszerre súlyos és epikus is. Azt hiszem több réteg is könnyen megkedvelheti a dalokat. Mi mindent tudnál erről mondani?
Igazából sosem érdekelt minket, mit gondolnak mások. Ha meghallgatod a diszkográfiánkat, hamar rájössz, hogy a lemezeink és a zenénk elég változatos. Csak a dallamok és a melankólia – a banda védjegyei – köszönnek vissza minden lemezen. Személy szerint én imádom ezt a lemezt. Szerintem ez az eddigi legjobb, és elég sokáig is készült, ugyebár. Ha pedig hihetünk a magazinoknak, a sajtó is ugyanígy gondolja. Ám ha egy szélesebb közönséget is érdekel az banda, én nem vagyok ellene.
Jelen pillanatban milyen a hangulat a zenekarban? Esetleg valamit ti is feltaláltatok 🙂 ?
Nincs találmány, bocsi.
Mennyire lesztek aktívak a folytatásban? Ugye nem fogtok újra eltűnni évekre 🙂 ?
Igazából nincsenek konkrét terveink egy újabb lemezre. Ez nem azt jelenti, hogy nem is fogunk kiadni egyet, csak még nem terveztük el. Jelenleg ez a lemez a legfontosabb számunkra, szóval rá akarjuk szánni azt az időt, amit megérdemel.
Hogyan telnek a napjaid? Hogyan néz ki az órarended? Mi a fontossági sorrended?
Hát, van egy nyolcfős cégem, szóval elhiheted, hogy elég munka van vele.
Magyarországról milyen emlékeid vannak? Szeretnétek újra találkozni a magyar rajongókkal?
Az utóbbi években jártam párszor nálatok. A cégem bandáinak klipjeit Tokay Péter és budapesti PXL Films cégének segítségével készítjük, Péter pedig egy nagyon tehetséges rendező. Azt hiszem, 2008 óta dolgozunk együtt. Nagyon szeretem Magyarországot. És mivel a lemez a 19. századról szól, tudom, hogy a magyaroknak és az osztrák-németeknek van közös történelmük. Emlékszem, mikor először léptünk fel Budapesten, a rajongók extrém őrültek voltak. Jobban, mint más, nyugati országokban. Ez nagyon tetszett!

Hey guys! It’s a pleasure hearing from you again! A lot of time has passed but finally you’re out of the tunnel 🙂. What happened to you guys, how much have you been out from music?
Well, I started my company Hamburg Records in 2002 and built it up. That consumed quite some time and we faced ourselves not having released a new record for quite some years. Since Hamburg Records is a management and merchandise company and I am producing other bands, I was very close in the music scene.
Did you receive many requests to play again?
We got quite some offers, but didn’t follow any of them. Only the comeback show in Romania, last year, we did that. It perfectly fitted to our plans and was very obvious to do for us.
When did you get reinvigorated? How hard was it to gain new momentum and start the new album?
That wasn’t a point at all. I have been writing the entire 13 years with no album. Out of the sudden I understood that this material I am writing is PYOGENESIS. From then on everything went very fast, we wrote the record, signed with a label, booked a couple of good shows.
Which studio did you occupy? Was the band in its top shape? What did the sound engineer get out of you guys?
When I produce other bands, I mostly work at the Horus Sound Studios in Hannover, Germany. Helloween’s “Keeper Of The Seven Keys” or Sodom, Kreator and a lot of other great bands recorded there. I love those studios!
The record got the title „A Century In The Curse Of Time” and the concept behind it is very creative. The invention of the steam engine, the rise of the bourgeoisie in the 19th century and science fiction literature are all in your music. Why did you choose these concepts?
I am interested in history in general – especially in European history. The massive changes are way more, than just the steam machine. It’s the clock, that replaced the sun, when it comes to time. People had to be in time in the factories, catch trains and so on. But also philosophers saw the world with different, their own eyes. And they were free to write about it. Kids were treated as young adults. The term “Childhood” didn’t exist since ever. One of the first books ever written for kids was 1845’s Slovenly Peter, written by a German doctor and translated to English by Mark Twain. If you read that today, you will find out it’s very brutal. The tailor is cutting the thumb-sucking boy’s fingers with huge scissors. Or Paulinchen is burning completely, flesh and hair, so there is only a tiny pile of ashes left. These all are lyrical themes of our record, and the cover mirrors at least the mechanical/technological part of it – the obvious things that can be seen. And the changes were much bigger than the ones we are experiencing with the computer, internet or smartphone. It’s so interesting that it’s more than just to write a single song about this whole century. And we have things to tell, a cover to show, a world to lose yourself in.
Are you guys keeping track of the inventions of the present times and the scientific fields of the future?
Barely. But if you talk about things like the internet, we know what that is. We’re just not following all inventions. And the album is not about all inventions of 19th century, it’s about the ones that changed the world. So it’s as obvious that we know them as we know the world-changing ones of our time, right?
The music is at once recurving, heavy and epic. I think a broader audience will like it. What would you say about this?
We actually never cared about what others might think. If you listen to our discography, you will find out that the records and the music is pretty divers. Only melody and melancholy – the band’s trademarks – can be found on every single record. I personally really love the record. To me it’s the best we ever did, it took long enough, didn’t it? And if I may belive the magazines, the press has the same opinion about it. Though if a wider audience is interested in the band, I am not against it.
How’s the atmosphere in the band right now? Have you guys also invented something perhaps 🙂?
No inventions here, sorry.
To what extent will you stay active in the future? You’re not going to disappear for years again, are you 🙂 ?
We actually have no certain plans for another record. That doesn’t mean we will not write and release one, we just haven’t planned. Right now this record is the most important for us, we want to give it the time it deserves.
How are your days going by? How’s your schedule look like and what’s your priority order?
Well, I run a company with 8 people, you can imagine that’s quite some work.
What memories do you have of Hungary? Would you like to meet the local fans again?
I have actually been a few times there the last years. The video clips we shoot for my company’s bands are going through Peter Tokay, a very talented director and his company PXL Films from Budapest. We work together since 2008 I believe. I really like Hungary. And since the record is about the 19th century, I know that Hungarians and Austro-Germans have parts of same history. I remember when we played in Budapest first, the fans were exrtaordinary crazy. More than in other – western – countries. I really liked that!
