Üdvözlöm a csapatatot! Nagyon örülök, hogy megint egy új magyar reménységgel készíthetek interjút! Ha minden igaz 2013-ban alakult a banda! Légyszi beszélj a megalakulásról, hogyan jött össze a csapat?
Szia! Részünkről a megtiszteltetés! Köszönjük a dicsérő szavakat! Igen, az első próbánk 2013 október 23-án zajlott le, akkor még csak Bálint (dobok) és én, Zsolt voltunk jelen (gitár). Már régóta rágtam a fülét, hogy kéne csinálni egy közös zenekart, de csak ekkor tisztultak le nálunk a dolgok annyira, hogy tegyünk egy próbát. Néhány próbálkozás után kialakult az összhang! Eredetileg trióban gondolkoztunk, egy másik basszusgitárossal. Érdekes előzmény, hogy Áronnal (gitár) talán egy évvel az esemény előtt elkezdtünk agyalni ugyanazokon a dalokon, de az a kísérlet elhalt valahogy… Aztán az akkori basszusgitárosunk ilyen-olyan okokból kifolyólag kiszállt, egyébként azóta is sokat segít nekünk. Ekkor kerestük meg Áront és a kémia egyből működött! A basszusgitáros keresése már egy hosszabb történet. A lényeg, hogy a többiek már régebbről ismerték Lacit és ők dobták be a nevét, néhány próba után nem volt kérdés, hogy ő a mi emberünk. Kisebb fajta csodának tartom, de a dolgok ettől kezdve önálló életre keltek…
Mivel, hogy elég szerteágazó a zene stílusa gondolom így nem volt megcélozva semmilyen irányvonal sem? Hogyan kezdtetek hozzá a dalokhoz, mik voltak a fontosabb szempontok, kritériumok a dalírásnál?
Ez a négy szám, egy nagyon régi koncepció részei (zene-, szövegvázlatok). Konkrét elképzeléseim voltak az anyaggal és a zenekar irányvonalával kapcsolatban, de azt is tudtam, hogy egy igazi zenekari anyagot és egy igazi zenekart akarok, ezért rengeteg helyet hagytam arra, hogy a többiek is bele tudják tenni a maguk egyéniségét. Ez meg is valósult, ahogy a megfelelő emberek elfoglalták a posztjukat. Ha valaki meghallgatná a kezdeti verziókat, 2013 őszéről mondjuk, rá sem ismerne arra, amit a Köd-ön hall. Talán a legjobban II-es nótával tudnám ezt illusztrálni, ami egy bőven 10 perc feletti monstumnak indult… Az akusztikus, szállós részek és a nyers témák vegyítése már a kezdetektől meg volt és erre a többiek is azonnal ráéreztek, így szinte a kezdetektől szabályok nélkül alkothattunk.
A 4 dalt tartalmazó hangzóanyag a „Köd” címet kapta. Nagyon illik az anyaghoz, hiszen egy soha véget nem érő szomorú varázslatos hangulat lengi körül. Mit mondanál erről az atmoszféráról? Kinek ajánlanád, vagy egyszerűen csak beszippant mindenkit :)?
Ez egy nagyon rétegzett zene, mind a négyen beletettük a saját egyéniségünket, történetünket. Egy régi barátom pl. azt írta nekem, hogy meghallgatva az anyagot újra a 90-es évek végén 2000-es évek elején érezte magát, amikor együtt barangoltunk az alföldi homokbuckák között… Van ebben valami. Amikor ennek a 4 számnak az alapjai születtek, zeneileg a gyökereimnek szerettem volna emléket állítani, azoknak a zenéknek, azoknak az érzéseknek és hangulatoknak, amik arra motiváltak, hogy hangszert ragadjak. Valószínűnek tartom, hogy a többieknek is lenne egy-egy ide illő története… A szövegeket nem szeretnénk túlmagyarázni, a zene által hordozott hangulatokat igyekeznek megtámogatni.
Milyen hangszereket használtok? Terveztek újabb hangszerek bevételét?
Semmi extra, dob, basszus, két gitár és ez valószínűleg így is fog maradni… Az ének volt sokáig kérdéses, próbálkoztunk énekesekkel, de nem éreztük azt a varázst, amit akkor, amikor Bálinttal elkezdtünk jammelgetni vagy amikor Áron vagy Laci elkezdett belefolyni a dalok formálásába. Mivel a nyers énektémákat már a kezdetektől én pakoltam az anyagba, a tiszta ének is rám maradt.
Az album borítóján a jól ismert Kátai Tamás fényképe szerepel. Esetleg másban is segített titeket? Mennyire hasonlítanád magatokat az ő zenéjükhöz?
Tamást még az egyetemi éveimből ismerem Szegedről. Egy nagyon szerény ugyanakkor jó humorú emberről beszélünk, aki talán kezdi megkapni azt az elismerést, amit már régóta megérdemel. Nagy tisztelője vagyok a zenéjének, a költeményeinek és egy ideje már a fotóinak is. Amikor összeállt az anyag, úgy voltam vele, hogy teszek egy próbát és rákérdezek, lenne-e mód arra, hogy egy fotóját felhasználjuk a borítóhoz. Tudtam, hogy van néhány darab, ami illene a koncepcióhoz. Mi sem jellemzi jobban, mint hogy szinte egyből igent mondott. Megmutogattam, hogy nagyjából miről is lenne szó, addigra már kész voltak a felvételek ha jól emlékszem és ő ez alapján tett javaslatokat, mi pedig kiválasztottuk a nekünk legjobban tetszőt! Nagyon hálásak vagyunk neki érte ezért! Nagyon büszke vagyok az anyag vizuális megjelenésére, pláne hogy magát a borítót Áron készítette! Hihetetlen jó munkát végzett szerintem, zene és vizualitás kéz a kézben jár!!! A kérdés második felére nem igazán tudok válaszolni, mind a Gire-t mind a Thy Catafalque-ot nagyon szeretjük…
Az anyag a Fekete Terrornál jelent meg kazettán 200 példányban, viszont szerencsére összejött az olasz A Sad Sadness Song kiadóval a szerződés, ahol újra megjelenik az anyag és további kiadványok is! Mit mondanál erről, hogy jött ez össze?
Nagy köszönettel tartozunk „A sásdi rémnek”, Dudás cimborámnak a Fekete Terror főnökének, hogy induló kiadójánál lehetőséget biztosított nekünk! Aki ismeri ezt a kis kiadót, tudja, hogy mekkora rizikót vállalt velünk, hisz a profiljában nem feltétlenül illünk bele, mégis teljes vállszélességgel állt az anyag mögé! Hatalmas munkát végzett a promócióval és azt kell hogy mondjam, ha így folytatja komoly nevet szerezhet magának az undergroundban. Diego (ATMF, Sad Sadness Song) a neten figyelt fel az anyagunkra és egyből szerződést ajánlott! Nagy megtiszteltetés számunkra, hogy egy ilyen kiadó felfigyelt az anyagunkra. Akinek van egy kis ideje, csekkolja le a kiadó portfólióját! Hatalmas kiadványok jelentek meg az égiszük alatt!
Gondoltátok volna, hogy ilyen hamar és ilyen „könnyen” összejön a dolog? Mennyire fontos számotokra, hogy külföldi kiadóhoz kerültetek?
Titkon reméltük, hisz nagyon hittünk a Köd-ben, de azt nem igazán tudtuk felmérni, hogy meddig jutott el az anyag híre a nagyvilágban. Hírtelen jött az ajánlat és nem ez volt az egyetlen! Elég sok energiát és pénzt fektettünk egyébként a promócióba… Mindenképp szerettünk volna határon kívül is próbálkozni, ez kezdettől így volt, sokan csodálkoztak is ezen a magyar nyelvű szövegek ismeretében. Relatíve járatlan úton indultunk, úgyhogy még csak most alakulnak ki azok a csatornák, net, koncertek stb. ami hasznos lehet a zenekar szempontjából.
Miket ígértek az olaszok? Mennyire szeretnétek underground csapat maradni?
Egyelőre nem szeretnénk sokat elárulni a szerződésünkről, de jelenleg úgy néz ki, hogy az Ep újrakiadása mellett 2 albumra szerződtünk az ATMF-hez. Komoly promóciót végeznek, szóval nagy tervekkel indulunk neki a közös munkának!
A közeljövőben több fellépésetek is lesz! Úgy látszik, minden összejött az év végére? Mit kell tudnunk ezekről a fellépésekről?
Igyekszünk minél többet játszani és ezek a lehetőségek valahogy megtaláltak minket. Nem igazán tudjuk egyelőre, hogy mi is a mi terepünk, nehezen tudjuk belőni magunkat a hazai szintéren, ezért igyekszünk többféle közönség előtt bemutatkozni. Ez egy nagyon izgalmas időszak a zenekar életében! Eddig csak egy szegedi koncertet kellett lemondanunk, amit nagyon sajnálok, mert nagyon szép emlékeim vannak arról a városról, de a zenekarban ketten is akkor lettek frissen kispapák és érthető módon a prioritások mások voltak abban az időszakban. Reméljük hamarosan bepótolhatjuk!
Tudom, nemrég jelent meg az anyag, de érdekelne, hogy mikor lesz folytatás, és hogy marad az irányvonal, vagy esetleg a ködben eltévedhettek :)?
Bár még csak nemrég jelent meg az anyag és a CD változat úgy néz ki csak 2016 márciusában fog napvilágot látni, ezek relatíve régi számok. Elhúzódtak a felvételek, maga a kreatív folyamat is hosszabb időt vett igénybe… Nemrégen fejeztük be a 4. új számunkat és még kettőt vagy hármat tervezünk a következő, immáron teljes anyagunkhoz. Szerencsére ötletekben nincs hiány! Az irányvonal nagyjából maradni fog, azonban a határainkat alaposan kitágítjuk/kitágítottuk az új számainkban. A dalszerzés még inkább csapatmunka egyébként, Áronnak pl. több témáját felhasználtuk, sőt, teljes számot hozott és mindez átmegy ezen az Ygfan nevű rendszeren, ami hihetetlenül izgalmassá teszi az alkotást! Bálint és Laci nagyon komolyan bele tudnak nyúlni a friss témákba, néha teljesen új arculatot adva azoknak. Akik esetleg kíváncsiak ezekre az új nótákra koncerten elcsíphetik őket, hisz egyre többet igyekszünk beépíteni a koncertprogramunkba, de egy ideig még a teljes Köd előadásra kerül majd.
Bízom benne, hogy sokat hallok még felőletek, sok sikert kívánok!

ENGLISH VERSION:
Greetings to the band! I’m happy to be able to interview another promising Hungarian group. As far as I know, you guys started in 2013. Please tell us about your first days, how did the band get together?
Hello! Our pleasure! Thanks for the words of praise. Yes, our first rehearsal was on the 23rd of October 2013, and back then it was only Bálint (drums) and myself, Zsolt (guitar). By then I have been nagging him for a while to form a band together, but it was only by that time that things worked out so that we could try ourselves out. After a couple of attempts, we got the hang of it! Initially, we were thinking in a trio with another bassist. It’s interesting to mention that we have started to come up with those same songs with Áron (guitar) maybe a year before that, but that project somehow got forgotten… And then our former bassist quit for a number of reasons, but he still helps us out a lot now and then. That was when we’ve contacted Áron, and the chemistry worked out just fine! Finding a bassist was a longer process. Long story short, the others have known Laci for a while, so it was them who suggested him. After a couple of rehearsals it was obvious that he was our man. I count it as a miracle, but things started to work out by themselves after that…
Did you guys have an idea what path you wanted to take? I mean, your musical style is pretty diverse. How did you start writing the songs, what were the leading aspects and criteria?
These four songs are part of a very old concept (musical and lyrical drafts). I did have specific ideas about the material and the path to take with the band, but I also knew that I wanted real music and a real band, so I left a lot of room for the others to contribute too with their own identities. This worked out well as the right people took the right positions. If someone would listen to the first versions, from, say, 2013, he/she wouldn’t even recognize the stuff that can be heard on “Köd”. The best example for this would maybe be the song “II”, which started out as a ten-minute-plus monster… The mixing of the acoustic, flowing themes with the more raw ones was there from the beginning, and the other members got the hang of it at once, so we were able to make music without rules from the very start.
Your 4-track record got the title “Köd”, meaning “fog”. It suits the material pretty well, as it is permeated by a never-ending gloomy and magical feel. What would you tell us about this atmosphere? Who would you recommend it for, or does it just soak up everyone :)?
This is an extremely layered piece of music into which all four of us have put our own personalities and stories. An old friend of mine wrote me that listening to it has took him back to the late 90’s – early 2000’s, when we were wandering together among the sand hills of the Great Plain of our home area… There’s something to it. When the foundation of these four songs was put down, I wanted to honor my musical roots, the same music and vibes that motivated me to grab an instrument. I bet the other members would have a fitting story each… I don’t want to explain the lyrics too much, they are there to support the feelings carried by the music.
What instruments do you guys use? Do you plan on including more of them?
Nothing fancy, just the drums, bass, two guitars, and it’s probably gonna stay that way. We were thinking on the vocals for a while, we’ve tried out singers, but we didn’t feel the vibe we did when we started jamming with Bálint or when Áron or Laci started to take part in molding the songs. As it was me who put the raw vocals in the tracks from the beginning, the clean singing was left for me, too.
The album cover shows the photo of the well-known Tamás Kátai. Did he help you out in other things, too? How similar would you say your music is to theirs?
I’ve known Tamás back from my university years in Szeged. We are talking about a humble yet good-humored man, who’s maybe now starting to get the appreciation he deserves. I am a great admirer of his music, his poems, and for a while his photos, too. When the material was completed, I thought I’d give it a shot and ask him whether we could use one of his photos for the cover. I knew he had some pieces that would fit the concept. It tells a lot about him that he said yes almost instantly. I showed him what we were all about, and if I remember correctly the recordings were finished by then, so he made suggestions on the basis of them, and we just picked the one we liked the best! We are very grateful for him because of that! I am very proud of the visual layout of the material, especially because the cover itself was made by Áron! He’s done a terrific job in my opinion, music and visuals go hand in hand!!! As for the second part of the question I can’t really give an answer, we like both Gire and Thy Catafalque…
The material came out under the label Fekete Terror on cassettes in 200 copies, but thankfully you’ve made a contract with the Italian label Sad Sadness Song too, so the record is also coming out under their name along with your other albums! What would you tell us about that, how did it work out?
We owe a big deal to my buddy Dudás, “the monster of Sásd” who is the CEO of Fekete Terror, for giving us an opportunity at his fledgling label! Anyone who knows this small publisher can imagine the great risk he took with us, as we don’t necessarily fit their profile, but still he’s been supporting the material in full force! He’s had a lot of work in the promotion, and I have to say, if he keeps it up, he will get himself some serious respect in the underground. Diego (ATMF, Sad Sadness Song) discovered our music on the Internet, and he signed us up immediately! It is a great honor for us that such a great record label took notice of our material. If you have some time, check their portfolio! They have issued some major records!
Would you guys have imagined that everything would fall into its place so soon and “easily”? How important is it for you to sign with a foreign label?
Silently we’ve been hoping to succeed, as we believed in “Köd” with all our hearts, but we couldn’t really track how far our music got in the world. The offer came suddenly and it wasn’t the only one! We have put pretty much energy and money into promotion by the way… It was our aim to take the music to foreign lands from the beginning, and many people were surprised by that because of the Hungarian lyrics. We have taken a relatively untrodden path, so the channels vital for the band – webpage, concerts, etc. – are just starting to take form now.
What promises did you get from the Italians? Do you want to remain an underground band?
As for now I do not want to give away too many details about our contract, but it seems now that besides the reissue of the EP, we’re making 2 more albums under ATMF. They do serious promotion, so we’re having big plans considering our mutual work!
You guys are going to give several shows in the near future! Did everything work out as planned by the end of the year? What should we know about these concerts?
We’re doing our best to play as much as we can, and these opportunities somehow found us. We do not really know yet where we belong; it’s hard to place ourselves in the Hungarian scene, so we’re showing ourselves to a wider variety of audiences. This is a very exciting period in the band’s life! Until now, we only had to cancel one show in Szeged for what I am very sorry, because I have a lot of good memories from that city, but two of the members just became young fathers at that time so obviously the priorities shifted. I hope we can make up for it soon!
I know that the material came out just now, but I’d like to know when we can expect the follow-up, and if you guys are staying on the same path, or maybe change way in the fog :)?
Although the music came out just recently and it seems that the CD version will only see the light of day in March 2016, these are still relatively old songs. The recordings were finished pretty late and the creative process itself took some time to finish, too… We have just finished our fourth new song, and we’re planning two or three more for our next, full album. Luckily we’re not short of ideas! We’ll continue on our path more or less, but we have and are still pushing our boundaries in the new songs. The songwriting has become teamwork even more so, for example several of Áron’s themes have been used, he even brought a full song, and everything goes through this system called Ygfan, which makes the creative processes ever more exciting! Bálint and Laci can shake up fresh themes awesomely, sometimes giving songs totally new identities. For those who are interested in these new tracks, you can get a glimpse of them on our concerts, as we’re including more and more of them into our shows, but for some time the full length of “Köd” will be played live.
