Ami viszont ennél is többet számít azok a dalok.

ENGLISH VERSION:

This hard-to-announce named formation was formed by two brothers, Adam and Michael Cook back in 2004, somewhere in the United States. They soon became a band, and line-up changes also happened but the two brothers stood behind each other all the time. However, after a 2008 demo, here”s the first full-length Infinite Titanic Immortal. Since I haven’t known the band previously, I didn’t have any expectations concerning the music. But, after listening to the 11 tracks, I still cannot really find the proper words.

The music, if I’d like to describe it simply, is black metal, of the Northern kind I’d say. As an example, several bands can be named, but I wouldn’t like to go into details with that. The more so since this music is so fascinating that listening to it one tends to forget about everything. Even if it does not hide any novelty, it has such flawless songs that it’s incredible. The first thing that strikes you is the incredibly raw, piercing and cold atmosphere which permeates the whole record. Not to mention the varied nature of the tracks in which there are always things to notice. Beside the superfast whizzing riffs they aren”t afraid of incorporating tight breaks with technical ideas too. So there are several death metal influences in the music.
The guitars bring very good ideas, and they aren’t capable of only plain riffing but finer themes also. The creation of the atmosphere is also their task maximally, this reminds me Immortal at times. I feel it mainly due to the frosty mod.

The other outstanding point is Adam’s voice. I haven”t heard such a powerful voice for a long time on a black metal album. It not only has power in it but necessary aggression too which releases immense energies. But, what matters even more is the tracks. It’s hard to pick out songs because they are all almost perfect. The magic of the whole record is given by the fact the band is thinking in songs, which are served with more musical skills than averagely. My fave songs include This King Never Smiles, or one of the rawest songs Heka Secundus (On Slithering Ice), or We Soulless Men full of changes, and I cannot leave out the closing instrumental Rime. Besides, the appropriately clean yet raw sound is also great, and the fold-out (booklet-like) cover artwork is one of the most beautiful I ever saw.

I’d also mention the lyrics that do not deal with the usual black metal themes… but! However, the message is served in such form that cannot be criticized. I don”t think I should say more than that about this album. One of the most outstanding records of the year that I still take out from my stereo with full satisfaction after the tenth spin. I can only recommend this to those into demanding and aggressive music. To me, A Hill To Die Upon have delivered one of the strongest materials of the year.
