A vártnál ugyan tovább tartott, de közel egy évnyi munkálkodás után 2015 egyik első folk metalos terményeként január 10-én érkezik a hazai Niburta új anyaga egy háromdalos kislemez formájában, mely a ReSet címre hallgat.
A rövid, alig 13 perces matéria minden téren különleges. Egyrészt átmenetet képez az első és a készülő második nagylemez között, másrészt azonban exkluzív, önálló anyagról van szó, dalai várhatóan nem kerülnek fel a következő albumra. A cím is ezt jelzi: az EP egy korszak lezárása és egyben egy új indítása. Ez pedig elsősorban stílusában érzékelhető: a Scream From The Easthez képest még több szaggatott, disszonáns, technikás metalcore/deathcore-ba és progresszív modern metalba/djentbe hajló témát kapunk, kitűnően összerakott arcletépő átvezetőkkel, derékból bólogatós kiállásokkal és matekos szögelésekkel. Ahogy eddig is megszokhattuk, a banda kitűnően keveri a modern metal elemeit szó szerint tucatnyi népi hangszer hol andalító, hol vérpezsdítő dallamvilágával. Sok folk metal rajongó számára már a nyitó ReSet sokkoló lehet a tekerőlant szólóból „programhibás” zúzdába hajló nyitásával, hiszen minden eddigi művénél merészebbet, de egyben erősebbet is alkotott a zenekar, ezzel pedig egy újabb szintre lépett.
A szövegek leginkább a korábbi Dance of Satyrs társadalomkritikus, a modern világot ostorozó és az ősi értékek és a természet után vágyakozó hangulatát idézik. A Two Facedben például a zenekarnak nevet adó ősi szkíta istenség története áthajlik mai nyugati társadalom elől menekülni próbáló ember személyes vallomásába. Az Evolutionbe egy macedón népdal szövegét is kitűnően beépítették, ami nem szokatlan a srácoktól, de hangulata sokkal inkább India védikus zenéjét juttatja eszembe és szinte elrepít egy távoli, egzotikus vadon közepére.
Érdekesség a lemez már csak azért is, mert a három tételben összesen 13 (!) zenész működik közre! Egyrészt a Niburta állandó tagsága és állandó vendégzenészei, másrészt minden egyes számban hallhatunk egy külföldi vendégzenészt is. A címadóban a korábban a Stribog, majd az Oganj éléről ismert horvát Ana Ćapalija énekel együtt Martinával, a Two Facedben a holland Myrkvar és Sowulo hegedűse, Klaartje Julia segíti ki a zenekart, az utolsó tétel fő vokáljait pedig a török Gürz frontembere, Dou Kalender szolgáltatja.
A felvételek nagy része és az utómunkálatok a zenekar házi stúdiójában, az Old Busóban készültek, a hangzás kitűnő minősége pedig a zenekar gitárosának, Krieser Jánosnak a munkáját dicséri. A borító nagyszerűen megjeleníti az ősi és modern világ találkozását, ahogy a három, rendkívül sokszínű dal is zseniálisan eltalálta ezt az irányt. Igen nehéz lesz ezt a szintet felülmúlni, szóval kíváncsian várom a Dive Into Ascension névre keresztelt nagylemezt, melyet a csapat egyébként még 2015 végére, a karácsonyfa alá ígér!

Although we had to wait a bit longer than it was expected, after almost one year work Niburta from Hungary releases its new material, a three-track EP called ReSet on January 10th as one of the first folk metal productions of 2015.
The short, barely 13-minute-long record is special in every way. First of all it’s an intermediate link between the band’s first and upcoming second longplayer, but it’s also an exclusive release and the next album won’t include these songs. This is the meaning of the title: the EP is the end of an era and the start of a new one. And you can feel this in its style: the tracks contain more syncopated, dissonant, technical metalcore/deathcore-like and progressive modern metal/djent-like themes with amazingly constructed face-hitting bridges, intense headbanging breakdowns and math metal drum rhythms than ever before. As usually the band excellently mingles the elements of modern metal with the atmospheric and stirring tunes of literally a dozen ethnic instruments. Probably already the intro of the first track, ReSet would be shocking for many folk metal fans with its hurdy-gurdy solo turning into a “software error”-like smashing; Niburta has levelled up creating its boldest and most extreme but also its strongest masterpiece up to now.
Lyrically the three tracks of the EP mostly call back the social criticism of the earlier Dance of Satyrs lashing the modern world and desiring for ancient values and nature. For example in Two Faced the story of the ancient Scythian deity (the band’s eponym) turns into the personal confession of a man trying to escape from nowadays Western society. They also built the lyrics of a Macedonian folk song in Evolution which isn’t unusual in Niburta’s music but those parts remind me of the Vedic music of India evoking the atmosphere of a far-away exotic wilderness.
Another interesting fact is that in only three tracks there are 13 (!) musicians! Firstly the proper Niburta line-up and their active guest musicians, on the other hand all tracks include a foreign guest musician, too. In the title-piece Ana Ćapalija from Croatia (ex-Stribog, Oganj) sings along with Martina, in Two Faced the band cooperates with the violinist of the Dutch Myrkvar and Sowulo, Klaartje Julia and in the last song the lead vocalist is Dou Kalender, frontman of Gürz from Turkey.
Most of the recording session and the mastering were done in the band’s own studio and the excellent sound quality was owing to the skills of their guitarist, János Krieser. The cover artwork perfectly visualizes the meeting of the ancient and modern world; as well as the three very diverse songs go straight ahead this direction. It will be a real challenge to overpass this level, so I’m looking forward to their upcoming longplayer, Dive Into Ascension which will hopefully be released around the end of 2015!
