Critically-acclaimed death metal pioneers GORGUTS are streaming the title track off their forthcoming record, ‘Colored Sands‘. „Colored Sands” is streaming now at Decibel Magazine.
Regarding the track, band founder and visionary Luc Lemay said:
„Colored Sands” tells the story about the intricate, poetic, mystic ritual of drawing sand mandalas. Tibetan pilgrims can walk for months, sometime a whole year, prostrating face to the ground every tree footsteps until they reach the place where the mandala will be executed.
Once the mandala completed, the monks will dismantle the mandala, and take the sands to the closest stream of water. This stream will bring the sands to the river, the river to the immensity of the ocean to spread the mandala’s peace and beauty to the planet…
Luc continues:
„The single harmonic, in the beginning of the song, pictures a single grain of sand hitting the ground…then with the pattern in 5 slowly appearing, illustrates the five elements in the Tibetan philosophy such as: air, water, fire, earth and space which are embodied in the mandala through their specific colors. From there the mandala slowly takes form in the music.”
Prior to the stream of „Colored Sands„, GORGUTS released a lyric video for the track „Forgotten Arrows„, and premiered the track „An Ocean of Wisdom„.

Few extreme bands have the pedigree of GORGUTS. From their early days as part of death metal’s first wave (including their legendary Roadrunner releases ‘Considered Dead’ and ‘Erosion of Sanity’), through their transformation into one of most progressive and influential bands in extreme metal, GORGUTS has been impervious to trends, and a vehicle to expand and redefine the language of extreme metal.
The band’s 1998 album ‘Obscura’ sent a shockwave through the death metal word, and remains one of the genre’s most influential records to this day. Taking inspiration from classical composers, Lemay’s use of atonal noise and sounds as part of his compositions helped reinvent extreme metal guitar playing. Lemay’s techniques on ‘Obscura’ continue to be a major influence for young metal players to this day.
Updated GORGUTS news and tour information will be made available through the Season of Mist website, and the GORGUTS website, Reverbnation, Twitter, and Facebook pages.
