Hot News: Mark Deutrom – Third Solo LP By Ex-Melvins/Clown Alley Member To See Release

Following two previous full-length solo efforts, ex-Melvins/Clown Alley guitarist, composer, songwriter and producer MARK DEUTROM — who has lead a varied and storied career within the realms of the experimental/underground since the mid-‘80s — has completed his third solo LP, and is confirming final details to release what is arguably the man’s most expansive work to date.

Earlier in 2013, the artist released a brief update on his official website regarding the new opus, simply stating: “I’m pleased to announce the mix is now finished for my new album. Chad Bamford, who worked on Silent Treatment and Value of Decay, has molded this sonic labyrinth into something extraordinary. Tracking took place at Ohm Recording Facility in Austin, Texas with the fastidious Chico Jones at the recording desk.” MARK DEUTROM now confirms the title of this new solo excursion as Brief Sensuality and Western Violence, a nearly hour-long voyage through both ominous and peaceful territories, with a variety of vocal approaches and instrumentation, bleeding together into nearly an hour of his most organic and unreserved material to date.

Stay tuned for new music, art, videos, a confirmed street date and other details on Brief Sensuality and Western Violence to emerge in the coming days.

For now view MARK DEUTROM’s brilliantly insane animated video for “Ruckus Juice,” animated by his wife Jennifer Deutrom, for a song of the same title which screened at film festivals in 2012, including the San Francisco International Film Festival and more, RIGHT HERE.

Following a multinational military brat childhood that ended in Texas, a young DEUTROM transplanted to Southern California where he studied composition at California Institute of the Arts, and attended seminars with such composers as John Cage, Lou Harrison, Morton Feldman, Aaron Copland, and Morton Subotnick. In 1986 he moved north to San Francisco, formed his own band, Clown Alley, and co-founded Alchemy Records with Victor Hayden. Alchemy went on to release albums from the Melvins, Rich Kids on LSD, Neurosis, Poison Idea, Virulence and others in addition to Clown Alley’s debut. He took the road as a sound engineer for acts including GWAR, and the Melvins, who asked him to join the band full-time. From 1993 through 1998 he toured and recorded with the band as heard on their PrickStoner WitchStagHonkyAlive At The F**Ker Club LPs among a variety of limited releases, and toured alongside Nine Inch Nails, Helmet, L7, White Zombie, Tool, Kiss, Rush, and Nirvana, including playing at their last concert in Munich in 1994.

Departing from the Melvins, MARK DEUTROM began forging new paths in sonic exploration, and in 1998 released his debut solo album The Silent Treatment through Tee Pee Records. He relocated to Austin, Texas, where several other bluegrass, noise and experimental projects emerged, and he also began producing and recording more bands. In 2006, he toured Europe with SUNN O))), after which DEUTROM was brought onto the label’s roster for the release of his second solo album, The Value Of Decay, in 2011.
