The second album by VALLENFYRE is hitting the stores today with a relentless mix of death, doom and crust. And the band is proud to premier the video for the title track through Metal Hammer UK: www.metalhammer.co.uk
Greg Mackintosh (vocals, guitar): „We wanted to make an unconventional video for a crushingly, dark song. The title track Splinters , whilst not the most obvious choice musically because of its ultra slow tempo made perfect sense when taken in context with the lyrics. There was never even discussion of a typical performance video as they are generally the style that 99% of metal bands choose, which is fine but we wanted to make a short film. Using a cinematography style set somewhere between the film Begotten and F.W.Murnau’s Nosferatu, the video tells the story of a man who finds a splinter growing from his side and as his condition worsens, the embodiment of his disease tries to take a hold. Hopefully this makes for a more interesting video than us just banging our heads, which no doubt we will be doing on stage sometime soon.”
Best known as a founding member of UK gothic metal pioneers PARADISE LOST, Greg Mackintosh transformed the anger and sadness ensuing the loss of his father into VALLENFYRE‘s death/doom/crust debut, „A Fragile King” (2011). This heartfelt and cathartic release is now followed-up by the even more abrasive and extreme second full-length, „Splinters”. Inspired by the likes of HELLHAMMER/CELTIC FROST, AUTOPSY, ANTISECT, DISCHARGE, NIHILIST, early NAPALM DEATH, early BATHORY, and CONFLICT, VALLENFYRE continues to dig deep into the roots of extreme music– yet due to Greg’s infallible song-writing skills, as well as the crushing sound courtesy of producer Kurt Ballou (CONVERGE, BLACK BREATH, BEASTMILK), „Splinters” is far from mere nostalgia.
This is what the critics say:
„Its masterful melding of Hellhammer / Celtic Frost, Nihilist / Entombed, Autopsy, Discharge and various other influences deliver a rare treat for lovers of old-school death metal and crustpunk.” Metal Hammer UK, 8 points review
„Vallenfyre squelch their way through fetid piles of deathly riffs and growls with more genuine morbidity than most of the young pups who weren’t born when Gregor was first hacking up these sorts of riffs.” Kerrang, 4k review
