Hot News: Vastum Penetrates Pitchfork Streaming Music And More With “3 AM In Agony”

With the release of their second LP, Patricidal Lust, ready to be discharged via 20 Buck Spin on November 12th, toady Pitchfork rises to the occasion and penetrates the public with the first new load of grueling death from San Franciscan horde, VASTUM.

Brandishing a nightstalking swagger, the third track from the follow-up to their 2011-released Carnal Lust LP — which Pitchfork assures is “heavier, darker, and a hell of a lot uglier than its predecessor” —Patricidal Lusts third track, “3 AM In Agony” boasts not only the leveling, mid-paced, ominous deathstomp VASTUM has become musically notorious for delivering, it’s a prime example of the devious, sexual nature of their core lyrical focus. Hear the grueling, dueling-vocal purge, reciting “The object of my affection, the source of my agony, sound asleep beside me, unaware that his friction creates, the sensation of a thousand interstitial blades down my center. I awake – 3am, debilitated, piercing pain – pounding, throbbing, waking nightmare, dysuria.”

Enter the raw nocturnal reality of “3 AM In Agony” at Pitchfork HERE.

VASTUM‘s Patricidal Lust has been ripped from the muse’s womb through turmoil and strife, reflected not only in the morbid hyper-realism of the album’s content but in the making of the record itself which presented scenarios of devastating real life tragedy, numerous delays, departed members and a sense of frustration by all involved. It’s an album born in pain. Recorded with both Jeff Davis (R.I.P.) and later with Greg Wilkinson at Earhammer Studios, Patricidal Lust has an atmosphere of eerie foreboding enshrouding the doomed death metal husk at its center; the cryptic dual vocal dynamic of Daniel Butler and Leila Abdul-Rauf acting as unreliable narrator on this journey through the body. The ghosts of Steer and Schuldiner echo in twisted half-remembered inference while the calculated, blunt rhythm section invoke abhorrent basement torture dungeon; captivity the only reality, death the only hope. Lyrically Patricidal Lust delves inwardly ever deeper into subject matter first seen on Carnal Law; the anguish and confusion associated with sexual abuse and incest and the blurry area where eroticism and madness vaporize into an unrecognizable fog of horror, the hellbound heart exposed. The appropriately designed cover art was erected by Italian painter Paolo Girardi.

Certain to leave a lasting impression, Patricial Lust lies at the core of obscene abominations too real for ordinary bands to pursue. Enter VASTUM‘s theatre bizarre. Patricial Lust will see CD and digital release November 12th, with a vinyl edition, bearing alternate artwork, to follow soon after.
