Doom shamans WOLVSERPENT have just arrived home after a short US West Coast tour in support of their new album Perigaea Antahkarana. Longtime supporters Cvlt Nation were on hand for one of the band’s Bay Area rituals at the First church of the Buzzard in west Oakland, CA on November 2, 2013, and left armed with dazzling live footage of WOLVSERPENT‘s unsurpassed and inescapably haunting performance.

WOLVSERPENT‘s sprawling compositions gracefully wend their way through the valleys of death, drone, black metal, doom, and chamber music and arrive triumphantly on foreign shores. Borne of the duo’s 20+ years of classical training and deep appreciation for the works of composers like Arvo Part, Gyorgy Ligeti, and Krzysztof Penderecki, WOLVSERPENT‘s vision combines stringed amplified instruments with a 21st century approach to composition to create works that are dark, emotional, menacing, cinematic, atmospheric, and heartbreakingly beautiful.
Perigaea Antahkarana is currently streaming in full on WOLVSERPENT‘s Bandcamp page here. As Stereogum editor Mike Nelson writes, “You have my word: I would not ask you to spend almost an hour and a half of your life on a drone record if it wasn’t fantastic. This one is really fucking fantastic. Listen.” The four song, 80-minute album was released by Relapse Records in September, 2013 on 2CD, digital, and 2LP. Purchase the 2xLP and 2CD version of Perigaea Antahkarana at this location.
In addition, a cassette version is currently available for preorder from the band’s own website. These were meticulously designed by Wolvserpent with silk screened covers by Monoroid, and the first run is limited to 250 hand numbered copies. Order yours here.
