Üdv! Hadd kezdjem azzal a beszélgetést, hogy gratulálok a lemezhez. Kellemes meglepetés volt minőségi Black Metaljával. És tekintetbe véve, hogy egy relatíve fiatal csapat vagytok, ez még nagyobb teljesítmény szerintem!
Szia, köszönet szavaidért, értékeljük azokat. Nos, igen, mi egy relatíve fiatal zenekar vagyunk, és ez az új ösvény meglepő és kielégítő volt eddig számunkra. Sok ember érdeklődik a zenénk iránt, és sok támogatás kapunk a médiától és az emberektől. Dolgozunk az új anyagon, és reméljük, hamarosan Chilén kívül is turnézunk.
Chiléből származtok, ami egy olyan ország, ami eddig elég ismeretlen volt Sötét zenék tekintetében az olyan zenekarok felbukkanásáig, mint az AMMIT és társai. Te hogyan látod ezt a helyzetet? Szerinted jó, hogy sok csapat le tud szerződni kiadókhoz? Szerinted, okozhat ez olyasféle túlzsúfoltságot, mint ami a Death Metallal történt a ’90-es évek elején/közepén?
Igazad van, zeneileg Chile elég ismeretlen volt eddig, páran még azt sem tudják, merre van ez az ország, de az olyan bandák, mint a PENTAGRAM, HETROERTZEN, MAR DE GRISES, ANIMUS MORTIS, AMMIT és mások megismertették külföldön is az országot, néhányuk leszerződött, vagy most is szerződésben áll külföldi kiadókkal. Számomra ez rendben van, mivel így sötét zenénket más országokba is eljuttathatjuk… Kérdésed másik részére pedig azt mondanám, hogy lehetséges egy, a Death Metaléhoz hasonló túlzsúfoltság… Szerintem a Black Metal már most túltelített, így kibaszottul nem érdekel, mi csináljuk a zenénket, és a Black Metalosok mindig meg fogják hallgatni, függetlenül attól, hogy a műfaj túltelített -e.
Ami zenétekkel kapcsolatban még szintén meglepő volt számomra, az az, hogy nem azt a féle ultrabrutál Black Metalt játszátok, amit először vártam volna. Az embr ugye biztosan mondjuk a GOAT SEMEN és társai irnyávonalán képzeli el a zenét egy dél-amerikai csapat esetében.
Igen, talán néhányan azt hiszik elsőre, hogy mi is úgy szólunk, mint egy dél-amerikai banda, extrém hangzással és ultra brutál Black Metallal, ahogy említetted, amit egyébként szeretek! Mindig is akartuk durva hangzást a zenénkbe, de egy más definíció szerint, hogy a daloknak mélyebb atmoszférája legyen.
Hagyjuk most a hogyan alakult meg a zenekar kérdést, ha nem bánod. Ehelyett mesélj arról, milyen tényezők vezettek ahhoz, hogy létrehozzátok az ANIMUS MORTIS-t. Tisztán zenei, vagy ideológiai dolgok? Vagy mindkettő?
Nos, N. Onfray játszott más Black Metal bandákban is, s amikor ezeket otthagyta, saját projectet akart, amiben továbbra is sötét zenét játszhat a saját érzései szerint. Így megkérdezett engem, volna -e kedvem csatlakozni. Akkoriban olyan valakit kerestem, akivel ugyanazok a zenei inspirációk és a célok is, és ezeket N. Onfrayben találtam meg. A zenéhez való vonzalmunkat az emberi lények gyötrelme inspirálja, és ezzel hozzuk létre a durva zene és pompás atmoszféra elegyét. Teljesen természetesen zenélünk együtt már 2003 óta. A következő célunk néhány koncert Európában vagy Észak-Amerikában.
2004-ben alakultatok meg, de az első demót csak egy évvel később jelentettétek meg. Ma a legtöbb banda már jószerivel akkor kiad egy demót, amikor még meg sem alakultak. Nyilván most azért túloztam, de azért ti vártatok. Gondolom, hogy inkább a minőséget helyezitek a mennyiség elé.
Igen, a minőséget preferáljuk, és egy demónk volt. Amikor felvettük, elküldtük különböző kiadóknak, azzal az elgondolással, hogy kiadhassuk az első nagylemezünket, az „Atrabilis”-t.
Négytagú zenekar vagytok. El tudom képzelni, hogy ez okozhat bizonyos (legyen az zenei vagy ideológiai) ellentéteket időnként. Vagy teljes összhang van a csapatban? Szerinted elég stabil a felállásotok, s mind a négy ember ugyanazokért a célokért küzd?
Nem, nincs sok gondunk amikor új anyagot írunk, mert minden dalunkat N. Onfray és én írjuk, így kölcsönösen ismerjük egymást. De persze a többiek is hoznak dolgokat a zenéhez, és nyitottak is vagyunk olyan új dolgokra, amik hozzájárulhatnak a dalokhoz. Egyébként új felállásunk van: KÆFFEL: dobok (HETROERTZEN), Drethegor: gitár és Ordog V: basszusgitár.
Zeneileg a gyors és agresszív részeket keveritek obskurus dallamokkal. Szerintem ez tökéletesen működik, és kellően Sötét hangulatot eredményez, ami szükséges a Black Metalhoz. Hogyan írnád le az ANIMUS MORTIS-t?
Egy afféle belső keresést próbálunk indukálni a hallgatókban és magunkban is. A zenét úgy írnám le, hogy olyan, mint az emberi létet kínzó érzések önelemzése mély ködbe keverve.
Milyen prioritású a zenekar az életedben? El tudod képzelni a jövőtöket, mondjuk 5 év múlva?
Hmmm, nekem és N. Onfraynek az ANIMUS MORTIS az életünk része, már 2003 óta. Most az életstílusunknak is tökéletesen része, és szeretném tovább vinni, és még jobb zenét írni.
Ideológialak hol áll a zenekar? A szövegeiteket átnézve nem tűnnek a kereszténységet vehemens módon támadónak, de kétségkívül sötétek.
A szövegeink és ideológiánk az emberi lét gyötrelmén és sötétségén alapszik, keverve a kereszténységgel, de nem tipikus és direkt módon, ahogy a Black Metalban általában. A szövegeink érzése sötét és hideg, amivel minden nap találkozunk.
Az atrablis szó jelentése amennyire tudom, fekete epe. Mesélj a címről és annak jelentőségéről számodra, illetve 
az album/dalok vonatkozásában.
Igen, így van, az Atrabilis fekete epe, a tiszta hanyatlás és az emberi depresszió tünete, ez majdnem valamennyi dal jelentése, keverve saját sötét és hideg érzéseinkkel.
A zenekar neve kapcsolódik a halálhoz. Hogyan képzeled el a végső felvonást? Hiszed, hogy a lélek örök?
Hmm, ezt a kérdést többféleképpen is interpretálhatnánk, de számomra ez a halál és annyi.
Mivel sokan elég keveset tudnak országotokról, mesélnél valamit? Kultúrátok például hatással van a zenétekre?
Chilében nagyon különböző helyek vannak az ország különböző részeiben. Északon nagy a szárazság és a napsütés, de néhol nagyon jó, és úgy érzed, mintha valamilyen bolygó, mondjuk a Mars felszínén járnál. Vagy ott van a Valle de la Luna nevű hely, s ott tényleg valami nem evilági érzés uralkodik. Aztán délen, ha szereted a klasszikus és tipikus nordikus tájakat, az ugyanaz itt is, sok hegy, erdők és misztikus helyek. Ahol én lakom, Santiago de Chilében, ugyanaz a szar van, mint a többi nagyvárosban. Santiago Dél-Amerika egyik legmodernebb városa. Nem olyan, mint a legtöbben gondolják, hogy indiánok lovagolnak, vagy hasonló. Egy csomó modern szarság van itt, illetve minden, ami a nagyvárosokban. De egyébként ez hatással van a zenére és az életstílusunkra. Utálom ezt a helyet és az itt élő embereket, meg minden más szart. Mindig inspirál az, ami körülvesz. Annyit próbálok utazni, amennyit csak lehet össze-vissza az országban, hogy új helyeket ismerjek meg, ami kiragad ebből a civilizációs szarságból.

Hailz! Let me start this chat with a congratulation on your album. It surprised me in a pleasant way with its high-quality Black Metal. And taking into account you’re a relatively young band, it’s even greater an achievment I guess!
Hi, thanks for your words we appreciate. Well, Yes we’re a relatively young band and all this new path has been surprising and rewarding for us. There’s a lot of people interested in our music and we have got a lot of support from the media and people. We”ll continue working on new shit and we hope soon touring out of Chile.
You’re coming all the way from Chile, a country that has been quite unkonwn in terms of Darkened musics until recently with the appearance of bands like Ammit and the likes. How do you view this situation? Do you think it’s good that a lot of bands can get signed by labels? Don’t you think it can cause a sort of overcrowdedness as it happaned to Death Metal in the early/mid 90s?
You’re right, musically Chile has been a quite unknown country even there’re some people who don’t know where it is located, but bands like Pentagram, Hetroertzen, Mar de Grises, Animus Mortis, Ammit and others have put this country in foreign ears and some of them were signed or are signed by some foreign label, for me that’s ok „cause we can send and spread our darkened music to other countries answering the other question, if I think it can cause a sort of overcrowdedness as it happaned to Death Metal… well I think black metal is already overcrowded so I don’t fucking care we do our music, black metal people will always listen it don”t matter if it’s overcrowded.
What was also a bit of surprise to me concerning the music of Animus Mortis that (presumably due to some kind of preconception) you do not play that ultra-brutal style of Black Metal I expected when first hearing of you. You know most people would surely expect something in the vein of Goat Semen and the likes from a South American band.
Jajaa yeah, maybe some people think when they are going to hear Animus Mortis for first time that we sound like some South American bands with an extreme raw sound and ultra-brutal black metal like you mentioned, anyway I’m not underestimate them, We always had the idea to put some raw sound in our music but with some better definition in all the sounds in order to create a deep atmosphere on the songs.
Let’s leave now the usual how-the-band-was-formed-typed question if you do not mind… Instead, tell me which were the factors that lead you to create this band? Was it purely musical inspiration or ideological? Or both?
Well, N.Onfray played in other black metal bands and when he leaved that bands he wanted to create his own project in order to keep creating darkened music but with his own feelings, so He told me if I would like to joining to it. in that time I was looking for someone with the same musical inspiration and goals and I found it in N.Onfray, Our attraction to this kind of music is inspired in the the torment of the human being and with that we create a mix of raw music with a great atmosphere , working together is something natural and we have been doing this since 2003, writing and performing here in Chile, our next target is go to Europe or North America and do some gigs there.
Formed in 2004, you released your first and only demo in 2005.
Most bands today already record their debut demo even before they are actually formed… Well, I surely exagerrated here a bit but still… you waited a bit. I believe you go for quality instead of quantity.
Yeah, we prefer quality, we have only one demo because that happened in that way, when we recorded it we sent it to different labels with the idea to release the next project that was our first full lenght „Atrabilis”. We weren’t interested in release a lot of demo and shit during years, we always want to improve and go far as we can.
You’re a four-piece act. I can imagine it might cause some difficulties in agreeing on certain (be it musical or ideological) things at times. Or do you have a perfect harmony in the band regarding this? Do you think your line-up is a stable one with all four members striving for the same goals?
No, we don’t have to many problems when we write new material because all the songs are composed by N.Onfray and I, so We understand each other mutuall, but of course the other members put something to the music and we’re open to put new things that could be a contribution for the songs. Anyway right now We have a new line-up. KÆFFEL: Drums (Hetroertzen) , DRETHGOR: Guitars and ORDOG V: Bass.
In terms of music, you mix fast and agressive parts with melodies of an obscure kind. I think this blend works perfectly and evoke the necessary Dark feeling a Black Metal stuff must have. How do you describe Animus Mortis?
We try to awake an inner search in the listener and ourselves, the music could be describe like an introspection of the feelings and sensations that torment the human being mixed into a deep mist.
What priority does the band have in your life? Can you imagine the future of Animus Mortis in the coming, say, 5 years?
Mmm, For me and N. Onfray Animus Mortis has been part of our lives, we have been working in this band since 2003, right now It’s completely part of our life style, I would like to take this farther and create better music any longer as we can.
Ideologically, where does the band stand? Reading through your lyrics they do not seem to be straightforward christattacking ones but they surely have a Dark touch to them.
Our lyrics and ideology are based in the torment and darkness of the human being and christianity is mixed with that topics but not in the typical and directly way that is establish in the black metal, we focus our lyric feeling in something dark and cold that we touch every day.
Atrabilis means something like black bile if I am right. Please tell us about the title and its relevance for you and for the album/songs.
Sidragath: Yeah you’re right, Atrabilis is the black bile, the pure decadence and symptom of the depression of the humans, thats is the meaning almost of the songs but we mixed them with our own darked and cold atmostphery feelings.
The name of the band is connected to Death. How do you imagine the final act? If this is the final at all? Do you believe that the soul is eternal?
Sidragath: mmm… that’s questian could have diferents interpretations but for me is death and thats all.
Since most people know rather little about your country, could you please tell us something about it? Does your culture, for instance, has any impact on your music?
Chile has diferents sensations and so diferents places each part of our land. In the north is really dry and shined but it’s great some places you really feel that you’re in some surface of some planet like mars or for example there’s a place called „Valle de la Luna” and when you’re there you really feel something out of this world and for other hand you have the South, if you like the classic and typical pictures of the nordic landscapes here in South is the same, there’re many place like there a lot of mountains, forest and mystical places and where I live in Santiago de Chile, is the same shit that every big city, Santiago is some of the most modern cities of South America, It’s not like most people imagine like some indians or wherever riding a horse, here we have a lot of modern shit and thing that every city has, but anyway It’s city obviously impact in our music and lifestyle, I hate this place and the people that live here and a lot of other shits, I always inspire in the lifestyle that surround me. I try to travel through this long country as much as I can trying to see new places that make me feel out of the civilization bullshit.
