Hello! 2001-ben alakultatok Dániában és egy elég népszerű stílust képviseltek a metalcore és a hardcore mezsgyéjén! Mióta is vagytok ennek a műfajnak a rajongói? Mikor kezdtétek el írni az első dalokat?
Mióta az eszünket tudjuk, rajongói vagyunk a zenének. Hehe. Nehéz megmondani, mikor és hol szerettünk bele a stílusba. Ez inkább egy folyamat volt: „először ezt szereted, aztán azt szereted”. De gyerekkorunk óta rajongunk a zúzós zenéért. Az első számokat 2002-ben írtuk, némelyik rákerült az első EP-re is. Régen máshogy ment ez.
A megalakulástól napjainkig milyen változások történtek a zenekarban? Mi a jelenlegi felállásotok? Kérlek, mutasd be a zenekar legénységét!
Igen, történt egy kis felállásbeli változás az évek során, de most lett a legerősebb a helyzetünk, Niller Plus dobossal, Martin Olsen és Maltin Golterman gitárosokkal, Søren Hvidt basszerossal és Jesper Vicencio Gün&Esben Hansen énekesekkel.
Most fog megjelenni a harmadik albumotok Meet Your Maker címmel a Dockyard 1 kiadónál. Nem hallottam a régebbi kiadványaitokat, de olvastam róluk 1-2 dolgot és nekem úgy tűnik, eddig ez a lemez ígérkezik a legjobbnak! Mi a dalok koncepciója? Hogyan értékeled az új szüleményt?
Jó vagy rossz dolgokat hallottál? Hehehehe. Nem, igazad van, a Meet Your Maker tán a legjobb munkánk. Az új albumban a jó öreg As We Fight agresszió és nyers erő van, de ugyanakkor fellelhető thrash-es téma is a repertoárban. Nem felejtjük a tényt, hogy a stílusbeli legkisebb változás is rajongók elvesztését jelentheti, de biztosak vagyunk, hogy minden As We Fight rajongó megtalálja majd a saját kedvenc As We Fight számát az On Your Maker-en.
A régebbi lemeznél Tue Madsen producerkedett, de ebben a munkában már nem vett részt, csak Jacob Bredahl. Miért választották inkább Jacob-ot? Mi mindent tudott hozzátenni az ötleteitekhez és a dalokhoz?
Rick Rubinnak nem volt ideje így hát… hehe. Viccet félretéve Jacob-bal a Midnight Tornado-n dolgoztunk és a nyers, old school büntető metál zenéje az, ami az As We Fight valójában. Jacob mindig új ízt hoz. Most egy pár hangot lehangoltunk néhány számnál, csináltunk egy hangszeres betétet és 1 számnál tiszta éneket is használtunk. És ahogy hallható, nagyszerű lett.
Az As We Fight-ban kétféle vokált is hallhatunk, egy hardcore-osabb és egy mélyebb, durvább hangot. Mi alapján dől el, hogy ki melyik részt énekli? Miért jó ez a megoldás?
Hmmm…jó kérdés. Kezdjük az utóbbival. Az, hogy két énekes van az As We Fight természetes része. Hangsúlyozza a banda erejét a lemezen és élőben egyaránt. Továbbá, két énekes meg tudja azt csinálja, amit egy énekes nem valószínű. Valamint jól is hangzik. Hehe. Az ének megközelítése többé-kevésbé impulzív. Nem igazán vannak vázlataink. „Ki, mit énekel?” dolog mindig úgy jön össze, hogy abban a bizonyos számban, melyik szól jól.
Talán a Caliban stílusa nem áll olyan távol tőletek, de ők azt hiszem már népszerűbbek. Mit gondolsz, ezzel az új lemezzel mennyire sikerülhet az igazi áttörés? Mit mondanál, miben rejlik a Meet Your Maker ereje, mitől lehet vonzó egy új metal arc számára?
Persze, imádjuk a Caliban-t is.
Koncertek terén hogy álltok? Mennyire lesz lehetőségetek nyáron a nagyobb fesztiválokon részt venni? Nagyobb lemezbemutató turné várható?
Négy fesztiválra szerződtünk a nyárra. Ősszel úgy tervezzük, hogy a Meet You Maker-rel fogunk fellépni dán és európai turnékon, de semmi sem biztos, úgyhogy figyeljétek az www.aswefight.com oldalt.
Dániában mennyi érdeklődő van a metal zene iránt Európa más országaihoz képest? Vannak metal Tv vagy Rádió műsorok, ahol bemutatkozhatnak a zenekarok?
Nagyon kb. olyan 5000 kőkemény metál rajongó Dániában, de egyáltalán nem vagyok benne biztos. Az egyetlen világszintű metál TV show, amiben szerepeltünk az a Headbanger’s Ball volt az MTV Denmark-on, ezen kívül a helyi rádiót kell figyelni, hogy igazi metál show-t kapj el.
Azt hiszem érdemes lesz mindenkinek megjegyezni a május 18-i dátumot, amikor is a lemez megjelenik világszerte. Mit tippelsz melyik országban fogtok legtöbb lemezt eladni? Hol lesznek a legjobb koncertek? Legtöbb rajongó honnan fog levelet írni?
Kösz, haver. Mi sem felejtünk. Hehe. Reményeim szerint a legtöbb cd-t Magyarországon fogjuk eladni és a legtöbb koncertet is ott fogjuk adni. Hehe. Két korábbi felvételre alapozva a legtöbb albumot Németországban, Belgiumban és/vagy Hollandiában adjuk majd el. De nem koncentrálunk erre, csak játszani akarjuk ezt a szart őrült tömegek előtt, minden este. Számunkra a metál a koncertekről, a nyers hangzásról, headbangelésről és a mosh-ról szól, hogy teljesen megőrüljünk, de azért egy irányított és pozitív módon. A felvétel csak arra szolgál, hogy emlékeztessen arra, mikor elmentél egy As We Fight koncertre és teljesen lezúztak.

Hello! You were formed in 2002 and your style is a very popular style in metalcore and hardcore. How long have you been a fan of this music ? When did you start to write your first songs?
We’ve been fans since forever. Hehe. It’s hard to say exactly when and where each of us fell in love with the genre. It’s more like a progression: „first you like this then you like that”. But we’ve been fans of the hard-hitting kind of music since we were kids. The first songs were written back in 2002, and some of them even made it to our first ep. It was quite different back then.
What kind of changes happened in the past?Please introduce us the band!
Yeah, some line-up changes have been made over the last few years but we’ve now got the strongest constellation to date with Niller Plum on drums, Martin Olsen & Martin Goltermann on guitars, Søren Hvidt on bass and Jesper Vicencio Gün & Esben Hansen are doing vocals.
You’re release your third album called „Meet Your Maker” by Dockyard 1 Records. Unfortunately, I didn’t listen your previous albums, but I heard some things about them, and I think this new album will be your best work ever! What’s your opinion about your new album?
Have you heard good or bad things? Hehehehe. No, you’re right Meet Your Maker might be our best work. The new album got the good ol’ As We Fight aggressiveness and raw power but at the same time explores the more thrashy sides of our repertoire. We’re not oblivious to the fact that the slightest change in style may result in losing some fans but we’re confident that every As We Fight fan out there will find his or hers new favourite As We Fight track on Meet Your Maker.
Your previous albums was produced by Tue Madsen, but your new album was produced by Jacob Bredahl. Why did you choose Jacob? Could he give you more things and plans?
Rick Rubin didn’t have the time so….hehe. All kidding aside we worked with Jacob on Midnight Tornado, and his raw and old school take on metal music really captures what As We Fight is all about. Jacob always brings in new flavours. This time around we’ve tried to tune down on a couple of tracks, we’ve made an instrumental interlude and we’ve even done some clean vocals on one track. And as you can hear the result is brilliant.
In „As We Fight” there are two kind of vocals. How did you decide that who will sing the part of the songs? Why do you prefer this kind of music?
Hmm…good questions. Let’s begin with the latter. The concept of having two singers is just a natural part of As We Fight. It accentuates the powerfulness of the band both on tape and on stage. Furthermore having two singers gives you the opportunity to do things that one singer can’t possibly do. And it sounds good too. Hehe. Our approach on the vocals is more or less impulsive. We don’t have some sort of a scheme, we follow. „Who sings what?” is a matter of what sounds right for that particular song.
Maybe you like, what Caliban do, but I think they’re more famous. What’s your opinion about the new album? Why do a metal-fan like this album?
Sure we like what Caliban do.
What about the concerts? Do you have opportunities to play in summer festivals? Do you plan to have a tour, which supports your new album?
We’re confirmed for 4 festivals this summer. In the fall we’re planning on supporting Meet Your Maker with a Danish and a European tour, but nothing is certain, so keep yourselves posted onwww.aswefight.com.
About how much metal-fans has Denmark? Are there any TV or radio programmes for metal bands?
A wild guess would be that there are around 5000 die hard metal fans in Denmark, but I’m not sure at all. The only nationwide metal TV-show we’ve got is Headbanger’s Ball on MTV Denmark, besides that you need to listen to local radio to catch a real metal show.
I think, people shouldn’t forget the date: 18, May, because your new album will coming out in that day. What do you think, which will be the country, where you will sell the most of the CDs? Where will you have most of the concerts? From which country will you get most of the letters?
Thanks, man. We won’t forget either. Hehe. Hopefully we’ll sell the most CDs and play the most concerts in Hungary. Hehe. Based on the two previous records we might be selling the most CDs in Germany, Belgium and/or Holland. But we’re not focused on that, we just want to play our shit in front of a crazy crowd every night. Because to us metal is about the concerts, about letting people hearing it direct, about headbanging and moshing, about going totally nuts in a controlled and positive manner. What the record does is reminding you of the time you went to an As We Fight concert and got blown away.
