Üdv! Idén már a nyolcadik stúdiólemezéhez érkezett a csapat, ami jelzi, hogy meglehetősen régóta vagytok a színtéren. Mik voltak a legjelentősebb események az elmúlt 17 év során, illetve a kezdetek óta hogyan formálódott az Enthroned zenéje?
Az Enthroned zenéje belülről jön, és minden kiadott lemezzel fejlődik, a tagok életéből, tetteiből és a lemez közt eltelt idő tapasztalataiból táplálkozik. Az első magot még ’93-ban ültettük el, a cél az volt, hogy a hitünket ötvözzük a lehető legextrémebb hangzással, mivel a hang a legjobb módja a dolgok terjesztésére.
2006-ban Lord Sabathan kiválásával alapító tag nélkül maradt a gárda, és talán ennek a következménye volt az is, hogy a Tetra Karcist valamivel hűvösebb fogadtatásban részesült elődeinél. Lélektanilag milyen jelentőséggel bír egy ilyen jellegű változás mind a zenekar, mind a rajongók részéről?
Mmmm… A Tetra Karcist a legsikeresebb albumunk a „Towards the Skullthrone of Satan” óta, nem tudom honnan vetted, hogy egyszerűbb volna. Bár voltak döntések, amiket akkoriban muszáj volt megszokni, mára viszont látjuk, hogy az volt a jó döntés. Nem rég beszélgettem erről Sabathan-nal és most olyat csinál, ami jobban illik a mostani bandájához, a Dawn of Crucifixion-hoz és ez az Enthroned-ra is vonatkozik. Nincs probléma köztünk és mindkét oldal számára a lehető legjobban alakultak a dolgok.
Ha már szóba kerültek a tagcserék, tavaly egy vadonatúj dobos és egy régi-új arc is csatlakozott hozzátok Garghuf és Nerath személyében. Közülük utóbbi már zenélt veletek, útjaitok mégis elváltak. Mi volt akkor a kilépés oka és minek köszönhető a mostani visszatérés?
2004-ben, Neraath-nak távoznia kellett, mert a munkája és az élete miatt nem volt elég ideje a bandára, turnéra stb. Most, hogy megnyílt a stúdiónk, (Blackout Multimedia) és ő is a része ennek, csak a bandára koncentrál, így természetes volt, hogy újra csatlakozik hozzánk!
A hamarosan megjelenő friss anyaggal kapcsolatosan az első szembetűnő változás a Tetra albumhoz viszonyítva, hogy a megszólalás sokkalta old-schoolabb. Hol és kivel dolgoztatok a hangzáson, valamint miért váltottatok vissza a kevésbé letisztult soundra?
A saját stúdiónkban vettük fel az albumot és a producerek is mi voltunk. Phorgath volt a hangmérnök és ő is keverte az albumot. Sokkal organikusabb hangzást akartunk, valami közvetlenebbet, amit jobban illik a felvétel koncepciójához, ezért választottuk ezt a „Pentagrammaton”-hoz.
Mikor írni kezdtétek a lemezt, mik voltak az elsődleges szempontok és legfontosabb alkotók, amikből végül megszülettek a dalok?
2008-ban kezdtem el írni az anyagot, de a folyamat leállt úgy egy évre, mert rengeteg munkánk volt a stúdió építésével. Egy ilyen projekt rengeteg pénzt igényel, de mikor készen lettünk vele, folytattuk az írást. Ez alatt megírtam az összes dalszöveget majd zenévé alakítottuk és megszületett a „Pentagrammaton”!
A borítóitok mindig mutatósra sikerednek, nem kivétel ez alól a mostani kép sem. Ha jól tudom, legutóbb te magad alkottad a skorpió designt, az artworköt pedig Ahmet Meran készítette. Ezúttal is együtt dolgoztatok?
Nem, ezúttal mi készítettük a borítót és a tartalmat is. Ez is különlegesség az albumnál: mindent teljen mi csináltunk! Sok időt töltöttem a design-nal, hogy a dalszöveg minden részét jól tükrözze, ezúttal sokkal személyesebbé tettem, nem csak a borító adja vissza a dalszövegek tartalmát, hanem a belső tartalom is.
Az előző művekhez képest miben nyújt mást az új produkció? Miben látod a fő különbséget a Pentagrammaton és az eddigi munkák közt? Mik tartoznak a korong legfőbb erényei közé?
Ahogy mondtam, a fő dolog számunkra, hogy mindent mi csináltunk: a gyártástól kezdve a felvételekig és a design-ig. Szerveztünk egy partyt is a megjelnésre, március 5-én és olyan körülményt szerveztünk a bulira, ami illik az albumhoz. A „Pentagrammaton” sokkal intenzívebb és közvetlenebb, illik ahhoz a különleges koncepcióhoz, amire az album épült.
A zenétekben megmutatkozó érzések és vélemények mennyiben tükrözik a civil életbeli életformátokat?
Természetesen hatással van rá, különösen az utolsó albumnál, amit majd a következő kérdésben ki is fejtek, de minden érzelem és esemény, amit az életünkben történt, valamilyen szinten megjelenik a zenénkben, ez nem kérdés.
Összességében hogyan jellemeznéd a Pentagrammaton ideológiáját? Miről szólnak a szövegek?
A dalszövegek a megélt élményekből születtek, olyan valós tényeken alapszanak mint az okkultizmus, spiritualitás, rituálék, stb… Úgy érzem, itt volt az ideje, hogy ilyesmikről írjak, az életem drasztikus változásokon esett át az elmúlt három évben, amik sokkal erősebbé tettek. Néha el kell esned, hogy újra talpra állj, velem is ez volt a helyzet és ez adta az ötletet, hogy ilyen közvetlen, intenzív legyen a „Pentagrammaton”,: az élettől a dalszövegig, a dalszövegtől a zenéig, amiből is megszületik az album maga! Nevezhetjük az „okok és hatások” eredményének.
Az Enthroned-on kívül gondolom más zenekarokban is érdekeltek vagytok. A közeljövőben várható esetleg valamelyikőtök részéről friss anyag? Mi a helyzet például a The Beast nevű egyszemélyes projecteddel? Várható még folytatás?
A The Beast kiadót keres, hogy kiadhassuk a split EP-nket. A The Beast és a belga Goat Torment kiadnak egy split EP-t, ami a The Beast utolsó kiadványa lesz. Más, There’s Unlocked, egy, a mostani és volt Enthroned, Prostituate Disfigurement, Gorgoroth és Shining tagok mellékprojektje. A banda brutális death metal-t játszik és a lelki és mentális nyomorúság a koncepciója. Az Emptiness, Phorgath és Neraath másik bandája, is most adja ki a harmadik albumukat az Agonia records-nál.
Mint minden stílusban, ebben a közegben is rengeteg a jellemtelen kópiabanda. Számodra mi tesz hitelessé és őszintévé egy csapatot? Hogyan vélekedsz a sokat emlegetett ‘true’ kifejezésről? Mit gondolsz, megfeleltek ennek?
Egy banda akkor „érdemes” ha 20000%-ig őszinték magukhoz, mindenben, amit tesznek. Ha azt mondom, hogy pl. Sátánista vagy, akkor annak kell lenned, legalábbis én így gondolom. Mindig lesznek pózerek és másolók, akiknek legnagyobb része személyiségzavaros tinédzser vagy nincs életük. Ezek az emberek a legkevésbé sem érdekelnek.
Nemrégiben egy helyi anti-fasiszta szervezet miatt lemondani kényszerültetek a Bad Vibrations Over Münster koncerten való fellépéseteket. Mi történt pontosan?
Néhány hülye fasz úgy gondolta, hogy a fesztivál csak NSBM bandákból áll majd, ami egy marhaság! Az Antifa megfenyegette a szervezőt, hogy visszavonatja az engedélyét, stb… úgyhogy az Antifa úgy hirdeti a szabad véleménynyilvánítást, hogy közben elkussoltatja azokat, akik más véleményen vannak, mint ők és intoleranciával védelmezi a toleranciát… haha.. barmok… Az Enthroned sosem volt náci, fasiszta banda. Mi a szó szoros értelmében BM banda vagyunk: az okkultizmusról, sátánizmusról zenélünk, stb… semmi politikai, faji vagy hasonló dolgokról, amik ellen az antifás barmok tüntetnek, legalábbis a hivatalos állításuk szerint.
Máskor is előfordult már, hogy az eszmei irányzatotok miatt kerültetek hasonló helyzetbe? Lengyelországban ugye történt már ilyesmi, elég csak a Gorgoroth ominózus krakkói előadására gondolni…
Ez a második alkalom, az első néhány éve volt, amikor egy belga barom, akinek személyes nézeteltérése volt velünk, azt mondta az antifának, hogy mi egy náci banda vagyunk, akik hatalmas horogkeresztekkel lépnek fel színpadon. Semmi komoly, csak egy gyerekes hazugság egy helyi baromtól.
Visszatérve az élő fellépésekre, mekkora hangsúlyt fektettek a külső megjelenésre? Van-e például valamilyen speciális díszlet vagy optikai effekt, amit rendszeresen használtok?
A legfontosabb, hogy a banda önmagát adja, mikor élőben fellép. Néha van színpadkép és néhány dolog még, de a legfontosabb, hogy magunkra és a közönségre koncentráljunk!
A turnézással kapcsolatosan milyen elképzeléseitek vannak? Hosszabb körút várható, vagy csak néhány helyen lehet majd látni titeket?
Mindkettő. Van néhány független fellépés és egy terjedelmesebb turné betervezve 2010 őszére. Átszeljük Európát, az államokat, közép és Dél-Amerikát. Néhány olyan ország is meghívott, ahol még sosem jártunk azelőtt, így nagyszerű élményekkel leszünk gazdagabbak és végre találkozhatunk a rajongókkal, akik a kezdetek óta az Enthroned-dal vannak, mint pl. a törökök.
Az új lemezről előreláthatólag mely szerzeményeket hallhatjuk majd élőben is?
Ez olyas valami, amire addig kell várni, míg személyesen megtapasztalod. Ezeket nem tervezzük el hónapokkal előtte, azokat a dalokat játsszuk, amiket éppen szeretnénk, kivéve ha közbejön valami, pl. egy lebetegedés, amikor már nincs időnk vendégzenészt hívni.
Pályafutásotok során biztosan sok mindent elértetek már, de mik a beteljesületlen álmok? Látsz realitást ezek megvalósítására?
Nos, remélem sikerül. Az első dolog ami eszembe jut, hogy eljussak olyan országokba, ahol még nem jártam, mint mondjuk Lengyelország. Egyébként már munkálkodom az álmom beteljesítésén: a művészetemen keresztül megosztom az okkultizmus sötét leplét.
Végül, a jelen kor black színterét tekintve, hogyan vélekedsz e stílus változásáról és képviselőiről? Milyen bandákat ajánlanál ma az emberek figyelmébe?
A kései ’80-as évek és korai ’90-es évek óta sokat változott a színtér, ez vitathatatlan, nevetséges és érdekes módon egyaránt, de én csak az érdekes részre koncentrálok, a nevetséges résznek már így is túl sok figyelem jut a média által. Van néhány al-faja a BM-nak, többek közt az Industrial BM és az Orthodox BM, amik a legjellegzetesebbek, ilyennek kéne lennie és ebbe az irányba kellene fejlődnie a BM-nak. A legismertebbeken kívül javaslom, hogy hallgassátok meg az Aosoth-t, Goat Torment-et, Iperyt-et, Paragon Impure-t, Taranis-t, Fides Inversa-t, hogy csak néhányat említsek.

Hail! The band is at the 8th studio album this year which indicates that you”ve been present in the scene for a long time. What were the most important events during the past 17 years, and how did the music of Enthroned form since the beginning?
The music of Enthroned just follows our innerselves, improoving with each releases and being a resume of the members life, actions and experiences which occured in between each albums. The first seed was, as you may know, planted in 93′ under the Enthroned monicker and the goal was to assimilate our belief with the most extreme form of sound, as sound is the best way to spread things.
In 2006, with the departure of Lord Sabathan, the band remained without any founding members, and maybe the somewhat more modest success of Tetra Karcist, compared to the previous albums, could be attributed to that fact. Psychologically, what importance does such a change have both for the band and fans?
Mmmm… Tetra Karcist was actualy our most succesful album sicne „Towards the Skullthrone of Satan”, I really do nto know wherte you get the fect that it was more modest… Anyhow, some decisions had to be made at that time and now we see that it was the best we took. I had a talk about it with Sabathan lately and he his doing something that fits him better with his new band Dawn of Crucifixion and the same way goes for Enthroned. There is no problems anymore between us and things went for the best regarding both sides.
Speaking about line-up changes, last year a new drummer and an old-new member joined the band namely, Garghuf and Neraath. Of these two, the later had already played with the band, but you parted ways later. What was the reason for his departure, and why did he rejoin the band?
In 2004, Neraath had to leave because he didn’t have any time for the band, regarding touring etc…because his job and personal life were taking all of his time. Now that we opened our own recording studio, (Blackout Multimedia) and that he is a part of it, he has all the time to focus on the band. so, it was natural that he re-joined the band!
The biggest difference of your new album (soon to be released) compared to Tetra Karcist is the more oldschool production. Where did you record the album and with whom? Why did you change back to a less clean sound?
We recorded the album in our own studio and produced it ourselves. Phorgath took care of the engineering and mixing process of the album. We wanted a more organic sound, something more direct and which would fit the overall idea/ concept of the record, that why we opted for such a production for „Pentagrammaton”.
When did you begin writing the album and what were the primary aspects and most important elements of which the songs were born?
I started to write material in 2008, but the song writting process stopped for about a year due to the huge work we had to face when we decided to builed up the recording studio. Such a project needs a lot of money and time to accomplish, but when things were ready and the studio finished, we stared to write some more material. During that period I wrote all the lyrics and we translated them into music and finally „Pentagrammaton” was born!
Your covers have always been spectacular, and this is also true for the new album. As far as I know last time it was you who did the scorpion design, and the artwork was done by Ahmet Meran. Did you work together this time also?
No, this time we did the whole artwork/layout ourselves as well. That’s the special thing about the new album: we did absolutely everything ourselves!! I spent a lot of time working on the design so they would refelct every single aspect of the lyrics, this time even more personal, as the very personal vision I had of them is visually represented throughout the whole booklet and not only through the cover.
Compared to your previous records, how does the new album is different? What are the main differences? In which can you see the main difference between Pentagrammaton and the previous works? What are the main virtues of the record?
As I said, the main point for us is that it the first record we enterily did ourselves: from the production, recording, artwork, layout and any other visual aspects. We also organised the release party ourselves on March 5th, and we gave the venue a special aspect that would match the album as well. On another matter, „Pentagrammaton” is more intense and direct matching the unique concept on which the album is builded.
How much do the emotions and opinions presented by your music reflect your „civil” way of life?
It has an important influence of course, on the last album specially, something that I will develop more in the next question, but each emotions or important event that occured in our personal life will have an incidence on the music, its inexorable!
All in all, how would you describe the ideology of Pentagrammaton? What are the lyrics about?
The lyrics are dealing exclusively with lived experiences, real facts that occcured in our life through occultism, spirituality, rituals etc… I though this was the right time for me to write something like this, my life went through drastic changes these last three years and made me a stronger being. sometimes you have to fall on your nose to be able to stand back on thy feet stronger than evern this was the case and it gave me the idea to deal with a more direct approach, soemthing more intense and „Pentagrammaton „is the result of this translation; from life to lyrics, from lyrics to music and from music to the album in itself! You can call it the result of „cause and effects”.
I believe, besides Enthroned you’re also interested in other bands. In the near future, can we expect new material of any of you? What about your one-man band, The Beast, for instance? Can we expect any stuff?
The Beast is actually looking for a label to release our final split EP. The Beast and belgian warmongers Goat Torment, will release a split EP and this will be the final release of The Beast. Else, There’s Unlocked, a side project of ours involving members and ex-members of Enthroned, Prostitute Disfigurement, Gorgoroth and Shining. The band evolve in a Brutal Death metal vein with a concept about spiritual and mental afflictions. Also, Emptiness, the other band of Phorgath and Neraath should release their third album on Agonia records.
As in every other genre, in this one also there are a lot of copycats. To you personally, what makes a band authentic and honest? How do you view the overused term „true”? Do you think it fits the band?
A band is „worth it” when they are 20000% honest towards themselves, in everything they do! If you are claiming to be a Satanist for example, you should be one, at least that’s what I think. There will always be posers and copycats and most of them are teenagers or no-life in a quest for identity, Those people interest me at the lowest point.
Recently, you had to cancel your gig of Bad Vibrations Over Münster due to a local antifa group. What happened exactly?
Some stupid fucks, apparently thought that the line-up of the fest included mostly NSBM bands, which is pure bullcrap! Antifa threatened the organiser to get some problems, to have his licence redrawn etc… so actually antifa promotes the liberty of expression by shutting down other opinion than their’s and claim to defend tolerence but how?? by intolerence? hahahaha… morons… Enthroned never was a Nazi, fascist band in anyway, we are a BM band in the ppure sens of the word: dealing with occultism, satanism etc… nothing political, racial or anything that those antifa moronheads are against, at least in their official statements.
Has it already happened that due to conceptual matters you get into a similar situation? There were similar events in //Poland// with Gorgoroth in //Krakow// for example…
Its the second time, the first time was some years ago, because a stupid guy out of Belgium who had some peronal issues with us, claimed to antifa that we were a nazi band having giant Swastikas on stage etc… But nothing really serious, just some childish beheaviours and lies from a local moron.
Returning back to live shows, how much emphasis do you put on visual things? Any special scenery or optical effects often used?
The most important factor to us has always been the band itself when it comes to the live act, We have backdrops and maybe other ithems once ina while but we always focus on the most important factor: ourselves and the crowd!
What are your thoughts concerning touring? Can we expect a longer tour or some select gigs?
Both actually, we have a few independant shows and an extensive tour planned for the fall of 2010. We will cross Europe, the USA, central and South America. We have offers from countries that we never visited before so this will be an interesting experience to finally meet with fans who follow Enthroned sicne the very begining like in Turkey for example!
Of the new tracks, which ones will be played live?
That is something that you will have to wait to witness by yourself! We do not plan those things month in advancze, we just play the songs we feel like playing, except when we have a reason to like a sick member for example and we have to hire a session musician to replace him it would depends of the time we have before a show and how the session musican works.
During your career I guess you have realized a lot of things but what are your unfulfilled dreams? Do you see any chance to turn these into reality?
Well, I hope so, the first thing that strikes my mind is to perform in countries I haven’t been yet. We have a few on the map that are necessary, like Poland for example. Else, I’m already fullfilling a dream: spreading the dark veil of the occult through my art and having a job that is related to this.
At the end, regarding today’s Black Metal scene, how do you view the change of the genre and its representatives? What bands would you recommend to people?
The scene change A LOT since the late 80’/ begining of the 90′, its undeniable, both in a reidiculous way and in an interesting way, but I will focus on the interesting part, the ridiculous part has already too much attention by the media! Some sub-genre like Industrial BM and the so-called Orthodox BM scenes are the most representative (amongst others) to what the natural/ right evolution of the Black Metal scene should be! Bands I recommand besides the most well-known would be Aosoth, Goat Torment, Iperyt, Paragon Impure, Taranis, Fides Inversa to name but a few.
