Funerus Interjú

(scroll down for English Version)

A kérdésekre Jill McEntee válaszolt.

Jill, üdvözöllek a Kronos Mortus nevében. Hogy vagy? Mit csináltál az interjú megválaszolása előtt?

Hello, jól vagyok köszi. A válaszok előtt takarítottam kicsit és reagáltam néhány emailre.

Arra lennék kíváncsi először, mikor és hogyan lettél metalos? Hogyan jutottál el a death metalig? Kik voltak rád a legnagyobb hatással?

Tinédzser koromban tetszett meg a metal, a 80-as években.

Megtetszett a dolog. Megkérdezték, akarok-e basszerozni náluk, mivel tudták, hogy gitározom.

A demókkal sikerült magatokra irányítani az underground rajongók figyelmét? Mai fejjel mit gondolsz a Funerus demókról?

Amíg szünetelt a Funerus te mit csináltál?

Szeretnénk a jelenlegi felállást megtartani.

Persze. Rettentő elégedettek vagyunk Dan munkájával. Hihetetlen munkát végzett!

Mik a jövőbeni terveitek?

ENGLISH VERSION:

Answered by Jill McEntee.

Hello Jill, I welcome you in the name of Kronos Mortus. How do you do? What did you do before answering these?

Hi. I am doing well, thanks. Before answering the questions, I did some work around the house and answered some emails.

How and when did you get involved in metal? How did you end up at death metal? Who were your biggest inspirations?

I got into metal as a teenager in the 80’s. It started out with Kiss. Motley Crue, Twisted Sister, Black Sabbath, and just naturally progressed into heavier and heavier stuff. In high school I remember being a total Exodus, Mercyful Fate and Metallica freak! As far as my biggest influences for the band, that we be old Swedish death metal bands. Nihilist, Entombed, Carnage, Dismember,Grave, plus BoltThrower and Rottrevore.

As far as I know you joined Funerus sometime around the recording of the third demo with the name Jill Daily. How did you get into the band? Have you played in bands before Funerus?

No, I had never played in a band before Funerus. I played the guitar for a few years. I knew Brad and Jason and had seen them practice before. I liked what they were doing. They asked me if I would play bass for them, since they knew I had played guitar, and they needed a bass player.

Did you manage to call the attention on you in the underground? What do you think about Funerus demos today?

Yes that is when things for Funerus started to go somewhere. We recorded the Funerus demo 1994 and started to circulate it. We started to play our first shows. We began to get our name out in the underground. As far as the demos, the first 2 I didn’t play on, so they don’t mean as much to me. I am proud of the 1994 demo #3.

What happened to you after the third demo? Why have you disappeared for 9 years?

Brad decided to leave the band, leaving Jason and I trying to find a replacement guitarist and/or vocalist. We worked with a few people, but things just didn’t work out. Eventually Jason moved to a different state, and we lost contact. I tried keeping the band going, even putting together an entire new lineup, which only lasted for one show.

You returned in 2002, when your husband, John EcEntee and Kyle Severn joined you and Brad Heiple guitarist. Whos idea was the reforming?

That actually was John and Kyle’s idea. They were both fans of the Funerus ’94 demo. When they were at the house for Incatation practice, they would ask me to jam the Funerus songs with them. I never would, but finally one day I did. It was amazingly heavy! We new it was something we had to keep doing!

What did you do while Funerus was on hiatus? Have you continuously worked on new songs?

No I didn’t work on new songs. I never thought there was a reason to, because I thought the band was done. Over the years I went to school and got my nursing degree while still working to keep my health insurance, so I kept very busy!

Your returning was Festering Earth in 2003. When and how did you composed the songs? Please tell us something about the procedure.

Some of the songs on Festering Earth are from the ’94 demo. The others were a collaboration of John, Brad, myself and Kyle. We would have sessions that we would just jam out and come up with stuff, or John and I would write together, or Brad would come up with riffs on his own as well.

Your second full album Reduced to Sludge released this year, 8 years after Festering Earth. What happened to you in these 8 years?

Member changes, alot of shows and alot of touring, alot of writing and recording! And a major part was me taking over vocals (while playing bass), it was a difficult transformation.

Currently your are a trio, the lineup consists of you, John and Sam Inzerra. Is this lineup stable? Have you considered hiring another guitarist?

This is the lineup we want to keep. The three of us work very well together, and respect each other. The band works well as a three piece and I see no reason to add another guitar player. So, I see nothing changing in the future with our lineup.

I admit, this was my first met with the band and I think your music draws a lot of things from the Scandinavian death metal bands and Bolt Thrower. Do you agree?

Absolutely, 100%.

The mixing and mastering was done by Dan Swanö, I think this explains a bit of the Sweden atmosphere and sound, doesn’t it?

I’m sure it does. We are extremely happy with the work Dan did for us. He did an incredible job!

What are your future plans? Doesn’t John’s other activities (Incantation, Ibex Moon Records) influence the bands work?

Our future plans are to get out on the road and tour, do shows and festivals, as much as we can. I think we have a good product to sell with Reduced to Sludge, so we want to get out there! As far as John’s schedule,we just work around things.

Thanks a lot for the interview and I wish you all the best!

Yes, thank you for the interview! Hope to see you on the road in 2012!
