Üdv Impure Wilhelmina! Hogy vagytok?
Jól vagyunk. Élvezzük a nyarat, ami új kicsink kiadásával kezdődött, és rengeteg pozitív visszajelzéssel folytatódott.
Radiation című új albumotok július 7-én jelent meg. Teljesen elégedettek vagytok vele, vagy változtatnátok rajta?
Igen, elégedettek vagyunk az albummal. Persze mindig vannak apróságok amit itt-ott változtatnánk, de úgy gondoljuk, hogy ez az Impure Wilhelmina 2017-ben, és ez is az amit ki akartunk hozni belőle amikor elkezdtük a projektet.
Hogyan folyt az alkotás?
Azt mondanám a szokásos módon. Felveszek pár számot vagy ötletet a GarageBand-re, aztán átküldöm a többieknek, ha tetszik nekik eljátsszuk, és addig változtatunk rajta a próbateremben amíg elég patent nem lesz. Pár számot felvettünk egy demóra csak hogy lássuk, hogy is hangzanak, és hogy mit tudnánk fejleszteni rajtuk.
Az anyag nagyja a „Black Honey” kiadása után íródott, de néha előások egy-egy régebbi ötletet is, például a „Great Falls Beyond Death” vagy a „Race With You”.
Amikor belépünk a stúdióba, már majdnem minden készen van (zene, szöveg, hangszerelés), szóval nem vesztegetjük az időt, teljesen a felvételekre fókuszálunk. Élünk Serge Morattel értékes tanácsaival, aki a felvételekért felelt.
A keverés hosszabb üzenetváltások folyamata köztünk és az azt végző Raphael Bovey között. És persze több órányi odafigyelés.
Mire számíthatnak a rajongók? Le tudnád írni az albumot pár szóban?
Reméljük, hogy akik szerették a „Black Honey” és a többi albumunkat azok ezt is fogják értékelni, hiszen bár az evolúció a mi zenénkben is tetten érhető, a veleje ugyanaz marad.
Szerintem a cím, „Radiation” jó leírás önmagában is. Valami veszélyes, és egyben élethez szükséges – gondoljunk csak a napra. A mi célunk pedig a hallgatóink sugárfertőzése zenénkkel.
A zenétek változásokon ment át az évek során, és ez érezhető a Radiaton anyagán is – tiszta ének, több rockos elem… számomra zseniális darab. Ezek a változások természetes fejlődés eredményei, vagy szándékos célotok volt?
Szerintem természetes fejlődés. De lehet nem. Hagy magyarázzam meg. Az egész a „Black Honey”-val kezdődött. Akkoriban írtam pár dalt amiben csak tiszta ének volt, és úgy voltam vele, hogy oké, csináljunk meg így egy egész albumot. De nem volt konkrét elhatározás, csak az akkori dalok eredménye és a többiekkel való egyeztetés.
Szóval végeztünk a „Black Honey” felvételeivel amiben szinte csak tiszta ének volt, de nem éreztük azt, hogy valami nagyon mást alkottunk volna, hiszen a zene veleje (ahogy fentebb és írtam) ugyanaz maradt.
Persze azoknak akik ismerték a régi albumokat aztán meghallgatták a „Black Honey”-t, radikális váltásnak tűnhetett, de nekünk tényleg természetes volt.
Lehetséges hogy újra elő fog jönni a hörgés és a kemény zene az Impure Wilhelmina zenéjében?
Ki tudja? Az a gond, hogy mikor élőben játszunk, nehéz mindkét vokált énekelnem. Turnézásnál a hangom elfárad 2-3 koncert után. De még mindig hallgatok extrém metált, szóval ez hatással lehet rám a jövőben. És szerintem még fejleszteni is tudom az énekesi teljesítményemet.
A dalaitok tele vannak melankóliával, mély gondolatokkal… a zene a legfőbb módja az önkifejezéseteknek?
Talán nem a legfőbb módja, de mindenképpen fontos módja. Próbálok pozitív érzelmeket fenntartani a mindennapjaimban, és a zenébe evakuálni a sötét oldalamat, ami valószínűleg a legjobb módja ennek.
És mi a helyzet koncerttéren? Hol láthatnak benneteket a rajongók?
Lesz októberben egy kisebb európai turnénk. Nézzétek meg a dátumokat az oldalunkon: www.impurenet.com. Ebben a turnéban nem szerepel Magyarország, de lesznek még koncertjeink 2018-ban is.
Beszéljünk kicsit a történetetekről. Az Impure Wilhelmina több, mint 20 éve létezik. Hogyan emlékszel vissza a kezdetekre?
Nagyon kellemetlen, de szerintem így van vele a legtöbb zenész. Doom metállal kezdtem, mert nem tudtam olyan gyorsan játszani, mint a Slayer. Még mindig dolgozok rajta, még ha a gyors pengetési technikám béna is. Így más képességeket fejlesztettem: arpeggio, dallamszenzitivitás, dalszerzés.
Remélted valaha hogy az Impure Wilhelmina több, mint 20 évet fog létezni és eléri mindazt, amit eddig?
Nem, nem számítottam rá. A bandának többször is majdnem vége lett, és rengeteg tagcserén estünk át. Semmi nem jön könnyen. De azt kell mondjam, hogy 3-4 éve stabil felállással játszunk, elkötelezett emberekkel, és ez is egy ok arra, hogy miért vagyunk annyira elégedettek a „Radiation” végeredményével. Az Impure Wilhelmina hosszú életét viszont az adhatja, hogy sosem hagytam abba a dalszerzést amióta csak elkezdtem. Csinálunk egy albumot 2, 3 vagy 5 évente, de mindennap dalokon agyalok, új ötleteket keresek. Kicsit lehangolt is leszek ha 2-3 hétig nem jön új ötlet, és az tesz boldoggá ha jó zene jön ki az erősítőmből amikor gitározgatok.
Milyennek érzed a jelenlegi svájci metál felhozatalt?
Van pár nagyszerű banda, és néhányan nem kapják meg a kijáró elismerést. Ott van például a Zatokrev, Rorcal, Closet Disco Queen, Promethee, Nostromo, Elizabeth, Unhold, … Mindegyik bandának megvan az egyénisége, és nem hiszem hogy lenne „svájci jelleg” vagy ilyesmi, szimplán csak rengeteg tehetség.

Hi to Impure Wilhelmina! How are you?
We are fine. Sweet summer, that started with the release of our new baby, and continues with a lot of positive feedback.
You have released new album Radiation July 7th. Are you totally satisfied with it now, or you will make some change if it will be possible?
Yes we are satisfied with this album. Of course, there are always minor changes that we would do here and there, but we think it is representative of what Impure Wilhelmina is in 2017, and of what we had in mind when we started to put things together.
How was the process of creation of it?
I would said as usual. I record some songs or ideas on my GarageBand, then I submit the result to the other musicians, and if they like them, we start to play and modify them at the rehearsal room until we think it is solid enough. We recorded some songs on a demo just to see how could really sounds, and what can be improved.
Most of the material was written after the release of “Black Honey”, but sometimes I dig up an older idea, for example on “Great Falls Beyond Death” or “Race With You”.
At the time we enter the studio, almost everything is ready (music, lyrics, arrangements), so we don’t waste time and are focused on the recording. We take advantages of the precious advices of Serge Morattel, who recorded the album.
The mixing process is a long exchange of messages between us and Raphael Bovey, who did the job. And hours of listening.
What can fans wait from it? Could you describe Radiation in a few words?
We hope that people who liked “Black Honey” and our other albums will appreciate this one, because even if there’s an evolution of our music, the spirit remains the same.
I think that the title “Radiation” is a good description in itself. Something dangerous but also essential to life, if you think about the sun. And we want to irradiate the listener with our music.
Your music has overcome some changes during years and we can hear it also in Radiation- clean vocals, more rock elements… for me another piece of geniality. But anyway, these changes in your music are result of natural development of Impure Wilhelmina, or it was direct aim to change your music?
I think it’s a natural evolution. But maybe not. Let me explain this. It began with “Black Honey”. At that time, I wrote some songs with only clean vocals, and I started to think, okay, let’s do the whole album in this way. But there was no radical decision, just the result of what I wrote and the discussions with the other musicians.
So we recorded “Black Honey” with almost only clean vocals, but we didn’t have the feeling that we made something really different, because the music and the spirit (as I said above) were the same.
Of course, a listener, who knew the older albums and discovered “Black Honey”, could hear a radical change, but again, for us it seemed natural.
Is it possible that we will hear your scream and hardest music again from Impure Wilhelmina?
Who knows? The problem is that when we are playing live, it is difficult for me to do both vocals. By doing it on tour, my voice get tired after 2-3 shows. But I’m still listening to extreme metal, so it could inspire me in the future. And I think that I can still improve my vocal performance.
Your music is also full of melancholy, deepest thoughts etc…. Is the music the main way how to express yourself?
The main way, maybe not, but an important way, definitively. I try to keep positive feelings for my daily life, and evacuate my dark side through the music, which is possibly the most positive way to do it.
And what about concerts? Where could fans see you?
We will do a small European tour in October. Check the tour dates on our website www.impurenet.com. No Hungary on this tour, but we will book other shows in 2018.
Let′s talk about history now. Impure Wilhelmina Exist more than 20 years. How you remember your music beginnings?
Very embarrassing, but I think it’s the case for almost every musician. I started to play doom metal because I was unable to play as fast as Slayer. But I’m still working on it, even if my speed picking technique still sucks. So I develop other skills, like arpeggios, melodic sensitivity and songwriting.
10. Have you ever hope that Impure Wilhelmina will play over 20 years and gain achievements you have?
No, I didn’t expect that. More than once, this band was almost dead, and we had a lot of line-up changes. Nothing is easy. But I must say that since 3-4 years there’s a stable line-up, with dedicated people, and here’s another reason why we are very satisfied with “Radiation”. But maybe the secret of the perseverance of Impure Wilhelmina is that I never stop writing music, since the time I started doing it. We make an album every 2, 3 or 5 years, but everyday I think about new songs, I try to find new ideas. I feel a bit depressed when I found nothing new since 2-3 weeks, and I’m the happiest man on earth when I hear some great music coming out of my amp while I play guitar.
What do you think about current Swiss metal scene?
There are many great bands, and most of them don’t have the recognition they deserve. For example Zatokrev, Rorcal, Closet Disco Queen, Promethee, Nostromo, Elizabeth, Unhold, … Each band has his personality, and I don’t think that there’s a “swiss signature” or a “swiss touch” or something like this, simply a lot of talent.
