Sziasztok! A zenétek sokkal letisztultabb lett az évek során, mint az előző korongokon, bár ettől függetlenül megőrizte a vadságát, dühét, elementáris erejét. A finom dinamikai játékok, a dallamos és súlyos részek ugyanúgy jelen vannak a zenétekben, mint az énekben. Mennyiben tudatos munka eredménye ez, és mennyiben a spontán ötleteké?
Nincsen számírási technika. Néha eszünkbe jut egy riff vagy egy dallamvonal és elkezdünk játszogatni rá, kombinálgatni az előző ötletekkel és a dalok többé-kevésbé maguktól mennek tovább. Fontos, hogy hangszerrel is meg tudjuk fogalmazni, mit jelent a dal legbelül. Azzal pedig egyetértek, hogy a zenénk folyamatosan változik és a nyers energia számaink része.
Az új anyag nevezhető e koncepciónak, van-e egy folytonos szál, amely keretbe rakja az egymás után következő, érett dalok világát?
Az album magától alakult ki, a dalszövegek témái pedig menet közben jöttek fel; számos forrásból kaphatunk indíttatást. Szeretek dalszövegeket írni és a „The Black Waters”-ben is egy csomó ötletem volt. A mindennapi életből jönnek, saját tapasztalatokból, túrákból és ilyesmikből. Elmentem Argentínában egy olyan helyre, amit „Valle de la Luná”-nak hívnak. Ez egy nagy rezervátum, ahol vannak dinoszaurusz csontvázak és egy csomó olyan dolog, amelyek már évmilliók óta ott vannak. Annyira lenyűgöző, hogy szemtanúja lehettem és észrevehettem, hogy a világ számos eseményen ment már végig és mi is csak egy újabb esemény vagyunk az univerzális történelemben. Azt gondoljuk, hogy egyszerűen örökre itt leszünk. Ez a hely egy olyan lecke volt, amit nem szabad természetesnek vennünk, hiszen most itt lehetünk, másnap meg nem. Ez az, amiről a „The Black Waters” szól. …mindennek a vége és egy új élet jelenik meg, hiszen minden erről szól. A „Moonvalley” itt íródott. A fő riffje akkor jutott eszembe, amikor láttam ezt a helyet és elképzeltem az életet, ami ugyanitt élt mondjuk 60 millió évvel ezelőtt. Lényegében ezen a helyen írtam meg majdnem teljesen a számot. Tényleg izgalmas volt, hiszen nem volt nálam gitár, semmim nem volt, amivel le tudtam volna játszani, vagy fel tudtam volna venni. Csak belevéstem az agyamba és körülbelül 15 nappal később le tudtam játszani és pontosan azt, ami a fejemben volt.
Csak keressétek meg a „Valle de la Luná”-t a google-en és nézzétek meg. És ha valaha meglátogathatjátok, csak rajta! Menjetek!
Szintén szeretek írni egy végső világméretű forradalomról. Ez is régóta ott motoszkált a fejemben és a „Breathless”-ben, a „Seed of Evil”-ben és a „High at the Holy City”-ben írtam erről. Ezt a területet annyi különböző nézőpontból láttam, hogy nem tudtam megállni, hogy ne erről írjak. Szeretek dalszövegeket írni. Néhányuk mindösszesen egy-egy szellemi kirándulás.
Az album címe egy konkrét ötlet nyomán készült? Ki készítette a borítótervet hozzá?
Az ötletről már írtam feljebb 😉 A borítótervet Jacó Santos Junio készítette, aki a brazil kiadónknak, a Midiacaosnak a főnöke. Ösztönözte a borító Bűnös Város stílusa. Az európai kiadásra én is csináltam némi szerkesztést.
Merre voltatok utoljára fellépni, hová készültök mostanában, és kikkel / hol szeretnétek együtt színpadra állni?
Kicsit több, mint másfél éve Belgiumban élek, az utolsó koncertem pedig Brazíliában volt múlt decemberben. A banda többi tagja gyakran játszik Argentínában. Sokat játszanak és jövőre én is csatlakozom hozzájuk Európában és Dél-Amerikában. Vannak terveink egy 2009-es európai turnéról, reméljük, meg fogjuk csinálni. Mindenkivel szeretnénk játszani.
Mennyire fontos a hétköznapjaitokban a zene (mind a játszását, mind a hallgatását beleértve)? Kik az abszolút kedvencek (ha vannak ilyenek)?
Az életünket a zene alakítja; mindazok, amik vagyunk ennek a következménye. Örök kedvencek? Húúú! Sok van. Slayer, Metallica, Sepultura, Pantera, Refused, Machine Head, Cannibal Corpse, Carcass, Morbid Angel, Black Sabbath, Fear Factory, Ministry… Rengeteg van!
Mennyi időt tudtok próbára szánni, van-e valamilyen más hobbitok a zenélés mellett (amennyiben nevezhető a zenélés csak hobbinak)?
A srácok hetente egyszer próbálnak, mivel nehéz összehozni. Én otthon játszogatok egy csomót és egy pár belga bandában is játszom. Hangtechnikus is vagyok és egy olyan belga bandával dolgozom, ami sokat játszik. Emellett másoknak is írok zenét, tehát érdemben ez teszi ki az életem nagy részét. Emellett van polgári foglalkozásom is.
Érdekesen fűszerezitek a death metal témákat a dallamosabb részekkel, a tört ritmusokkal. Az egyes számok fő vonalát közösen hozzátok, vagy csak egyvalaki a fő témák szerzője?
Egy csomó anyagot írok és a többi tag is. Jó csapat vagyunk. Mindig együtt dolgozunk a dalokon, amit általában úgy oldunk meg, hogy dobgéppel megírjuk a demó verziót és szétdobjuk egymás között, így mire el kell játszani, mindenki tudja, miről van szó, és akkor elkezdjük megformálni a dalokat.
Egy negyedik, állandó tag csatlakozására nem gondoltatok még?
Én vagyok a negyedik ember.
Készülnek-e már a következő számok, van-e már valamilyen különleges ötletetek a jövőre nézve?
Egy rakat új ötletünk van, de csak pár befejezett számunk, azonban mindenfelé riffek milliói vannak, csak össze kell raknunk a teljes cuccot. Tényleg izgatottak vagyunk, hiszen minden alkalommal jobban megy. Tervek a következő kiadványokról? Igen, vannak, de a „The Black Waters” nemrég jelent meg Európában, tehát van időnk.
Gondolom nagyon sok munka áll a lemez mögött. Mennyire vagytok vele elégedettek, mind a hangzását, mind a számokat tekintve?
Teljesen. Mindig szeretnénk változtatni dolgokon, de az albumok ilyenek, abba kell hagyni egyszer, mert különben egy soha véget nem érő folyamat lesz, és a nyersanyag elkezdi elveszíteni a frissességét.
Van-e olyan dal, amely végül mégsem került fel a lemezre, és ha igen, miért?
Igen, volt egy pár, mindössze csak azért, mert a többit jobban szerettük, és úgy döntöttünk, azokra koncentrálunk. Néha, amikor felvesszük a dalokat, észreveszünk olyan dolgokat, amire oda sem figyelünk, amikor élőben játsszuk őket és fizikailag érezzük a zenét.
Ki írja a szövegeket? Milyen inspirációk vezetnek benneteket a zene és a szöveg írásában?
Én, és minden ösztönözhet minket arra, hogy írjunk.
Mi a véleményetek a mai zenei dömpingről, és az underground újabb térhódításáról? Milyen tapasztalataitok vannak a szervezőkkel, fesztiválokkal kapcsolatban?
Szerintem a színtér mostanában tényleg nagy, és örülök, hogy a thrash metal újra reflektorfénybe került. Voltam Európában néhány fesztiválon és nagyszerű volt! Ennyi kiváló banda együtt!
A különböző énekstílusok (bár nagyjából ugyanazon határmezsgyén mozogva) ötvözése jelentős többletet ad a zenéhez. Ez mindig is fontos szempont volt?
Néha a dalok olyan dolgokat kívánnak meg, mint például a tiszta ének, és nem rettenünk meg attól, hogy kipróbáljunk ilyesmiket.

ENGLISH VERSION:
According to your previous releases your music has become more transparent than before. Although, it is still wild, filled with anger and it has elementary strength. I found the soft dynamic vibrations and heavy and melodic themes both in your music and in the vocal themes. Do you write your songs spontaneously or by following a conception?
There’s no composing technique, sometimes you get a riff or vocal line in your head and you start to play around with it, combine it with previous ides, and then the song goes more or less by itself, it’s important to be able to put into your instrument, what the song is calling for in your head. And I agree, our music changes constantly raw energy is the element of our songs.
Can we call this record a concept album? Is there anything that ties the great songs together and makes this album really coherent?
The album started to develop itself and the lyric topics appeared on the way, you get inspiration out of many sources. I like to write lyrics and for „The Black Waters” I had lots of ideas. They come from everyday life, own experiences, trips, anything. I went to a place called „Valle de la Luna” in Argentina, it’s a big reserve; you can find dinosaur skeletons and lots of stuff that has been there for millions of years. It’s so impressive to witness and realize that the world has been through so many stages and that we are just another event into the universal History. We just think we’ll be here forever, that place was a lesson that you don’t have to take anything for granted, you can be there now and tomorrow not. That’s what The Black Waters are, they are The End of it all and from there, new life will turn up, because that’s what it’s all about. „Moonvalley” was written there, it’s main riff came to my mind while witnessing that place and imagining the life that was living in that very same place like 60 million years ago. Actually I made the song almost completely in my head just at that place. It was really exciting, I had no guitar, nothing to play it or record it, I just burnt it in my brain and like 15 days later I was able to play it and it was just what I had in mind.

I also like to write about a final worldwide revolt, it’s been there for a long time in my head and I wrote about that on „Breathless”, „Seed of Evil” and „High at the Holy City”, I’ve seen that scene in so many different ways that I just keep on writing about it. I like to write lyrics, some of them are just mental trips!
What is the idea behind the album”s title? Who made this artwork?
The idea is above 😉 The artwork was made by Jacó Santos Junior, the chief of our Brazilian label Midiacaos, he was inspired in the Sin City style of artwork. I did some stuff for the European edition, as well.
Where was your last gig? Do you plan to play a live show somewhere in the near future? If so then whom do you want to play with?
I’m living in Belgium for a bit more than one year and a half now, my last gig was in Brazil last December. The rest of the band plays heavily in Argentina, they are playing a lot and I’ll join them again to play next year in Europe and South-America. There are plans for European tour in 2009, let’s hope it happens. We would like to play with anybody!
How much is music important to you in your life in general (I mean both playing it and listening to it)? Could you mention any favorite of yours (if you have any)?
Our lives are shaped by music; everything we are is a consequence of that. All time favourites? Pff, a lot. Slayer, Metallica, Sepultura, Pantera, Refused, Machine Head, Cannibal Corpse, Carcass, Morbid Angel, Black Sabbath, Fear factory, Ministry, millions man!
How much time do you spend for rehearsing? Do you have any hobby beside music (if we can call music as a hobby)?
The guys are rehearsing once a week only because there’s heavy playing. I play at home a lot and play with some bands in Belgium. I’m also sound technician and I work with a Belgian band that plays a lot. I produce music for other projects, so basically it means most of my life. Besides that I have a regular job.
You mix the death metal elements with the melodic and complex parts well. Do you make these songs up together or there is a certain songwriter within the band?
I write a lot of stuff and the other members as well, we are a good team. I write the lyrics. We always work together on the songs, what we do in general is to demo the songs with drum machine and spread them around so at the time of playing together everybody knows how it goes and from there we start to shape the songs.
Have you ever thought about recruiting a fourth member?
I am the forth member.
What about the new songs for the next album? Are they under construction yet? Do you have any special plans for the future releases?
We have a lot of new ideas, but „finished” songs only a few, but there are millions of riffs around, we have to put the whole thing together, we are really excited because it’s getting better and better every time. Plans for future released, certainly, but „The Black Waters” is just released in Europe, so there’s time.
You’ve worked hard for this album, haven’t you? Are you satisfied with the result? I mean both sound and the outcome of the songs.
Absolutely. You always would like to change things but basically albums are like that, you kind of „quit” them, otherwise is a never ending procedure and you start to miss the freshness of the raw material.
Is there any song that you had to leave out from this album, and if so, why?
There were a couple of them. Just because we liked others better and we decided to focus on those. Sometimes when you record the songs you realise of things that you don’t pay attention to when you just play them live and feel the music physically.
Who is responsible for the lyrics? What inspires you when you write a song?
Me, and anything can inspire you to write.
What is your opinion of nowadays” musical scene and what do you think of that the underground is on the rise again? What kind of experiences do you have of the festivals and the management of those?
I think the scene is really big nowadays and I love that thrash metal is back on the spotlight. I have been in some festivals in Europe and it’s just great! So many incredible bands were there altogether.
The variations of the different vocal styles make this music more unique. Was it an important viewpoint when you wrote the songs?
Sometimes the song calls for certain things like clean vocals, and we are not afraid of trying that kind of things.
