Az arizonai KNIGHTS OF THE ABYSS is kőkeményen a deathcore hullámhoz tartozik, de ők annyival különböznek a sok testvérzenekarral szemben, hogy maximálisan előtérbe helyezik az old school hatásokat. Death / Thrash / Black metal kérem szépen mai köntösbe bújtatva, s kőprofin előadva. A mitológiát nem felejtő banda legújabb lemeze is ezt bizonyítja, hogy a kő metál is kellőképpen divatos lehet remek promócióval, s tudással a birtokukban.
Hello! 2005-ben alakultatok, de most is nagyon fiatal tagsággal számolhattok. Milyen régóta zenéltek együtt?
Körülbelül 16-17 évesek lehettünk, amikor elkezdtünk együtt zenélni. Amikor a bandához csatlakoztam, mint énekes, akkor voltam 18 éves.
Mikor ismerkedtetek meg a metal zenével?
Elég régóta vagyunk rajongója a metál zenéknek. Mondjuk én személy szerint igazából 15 éves korom óta vagyok benne.
Egy demo és egy nagylemez után kijött a második anyag. Eddig milyen a fogadtatása?
Szerintem elég sok ember meglepődött az új lemez kapcsán. Eldöntöttük, hogy egy megfontoltabb, melodikusabb irányba megyünk és boldogak vagyunk a végeredmény miatt. Szerintem az emberek fel fogják ismerni a fejlődést a zenében.
Be kell vallani elég nagy divathullám lett a modernebb megközelítésű metal zenéből. A zenétek abszolút old-school alapokon nyugszik, mégis sok úgymond deathcore arc hallgat titeket, akik simán meghallgatják pl: a Carnifexet vagy a The Red Chordot…
Szerintem ez azért van, mert elég sok hatást olvaszt egybe a zenénk. Mi mindannyian szeretjük a hard rock, hardcore zenéket egészen az extrém metálig bezárva. Mikor ezeket a hatásokat egybegyúrjuk, akkor jön ki a saját stílusunk. Tehát ennek a mixnek köszönhető, hogy a hallgatók szeretik az anyagunkat. Szeretjük, mikor sok fajta ember hallgatja a zenénket.
Az államokban milyen bázisotok van?
Nem vagyok benne egészen biztos, de elkezdtük ezt a folyamatot, hogy kialakuljon. Most Európában turnézunk, s azon vagyunk, hogy változtassunk a dolgokon.
Most nyáron nyomjátok az Európa tourt az Annotations O Fan Autopsy illetve a The Acacia Strain zenekarokkal. Eddig milyen visszajelzéseket kaptatok a koncertekről?
A koncertek remekül sikerültek és az európai rajongók nagyon királyak. Megbecsültek minket és emiatt nagyon boldogak vagyunk.
A Ferret kiadó kellőképpen promózza az anyagotokat?
A Ferret abszolút megfelelő számunkra és remekül promózzák a lemezt. Rengetek kritikát látunk a lemezről és el sem tudnánk jobb turnét képzelni magunknak.
Mennyiben érzitek másnak ezt a lemezt a debütalbumhoz képest?
Alapvetően érettebb lett az anyag, főleg a dallamok terén. Nagyobb hangsúlyt fektettünk az összefüggő dalokra, s ettől az egész lemez jobb lett. Szerintem ez egy természetes evolúciója a bandának és érezzük, hogy mindig lépcsőzetesen haladunk minden egyes anyagnál. Hallgassátok meg!
A próbákat hogyan oldjátok meg? Mennyire laktok közel/messze egymáshoz?
Aránylag közel lakunk egymáshoz, de suliba is járunk illetve dolgozunk is egyaránt. Leggyakrabban hétvégén szoktunk próbálni és számokat írunk a hét többi napjában.
Milyen zenekarokat tudnátok mondani, mint fő hatások?
Szerintem elég sok hatásunk van, amit fel tudunk sorolni, de, ha mondani kell valamit, akkor az At the Gates és a Carcass, akik fő hatásként szerepelnek a lemezen.
Az államokban egybeolvad a hardcore illetve a metal zenét kedvelők tábora?
Egy kevés. Bár sokan azért nyomulnak ránk, hogy kiadják magukból az agressziót.
Mennyi időbe telt felvenni a lemezt?
2 és fél hét volt a keverés, de az egész mindennel együtt két és fél hónapot vett igénybe.
Zenélés mellett még milyen elfoglaltságaitok vannak?
A dobos és én illetve a gitárosunk hallgatói vagyunk egy amcsi egyetemnek, ami elég sok időt vesz igénybe. Az egyetem és a meló között eléggé elfoglaltak vagyunk.

ENGLISH VERSION:
Arizona’s KNIGHTS OF THE ABBYSS is in the deathcore wave as hard as a stone, but they differ from the other brother-bands in that they put the old-school influences in the foreground. It is a death/thrash/black metal in a modern cover, performed professionally. It is proved by the newest album of the band, as well, which does not forget the mythology, that pure metal can be mainstream, too, with fine promotion, and instrumental knowledge. I asked the band with very young members about the happenings around the band.
Hello! You were founded in 2005, but the members are very young even now. Since when do you play music together?
We all started playing when were beween 16 and 17 years old. I joined the band as the vocalist when i was eighteen.
When did you get to know the metal music?
We have all been fans of metal for a long time. For me personally i really got into metal at around the age of fifteen and haven’t looked back since.
After a demo and a full-length CD came out your new album. What are the receptions of it like?
I think alot of people are surprised at the new album. We decided to go in a more mature and melodic direction with it and are very happy with the way it came out. I think people are recognizing the improvement in the music as well.
It should be admitted that metal music with modern approach became quite a big fashion. Your music is absolutely based on old-school influences, however, lots of deathcore fans listens to your music, who also listen to e.g. Carnifex or The Red Chord…
I think this reason is because we draw from so many influences. We all like everything from hard rock to hard core to the furthest extremes of agressive metal. When we write and put all of those influences together it becomes our own style. I think the blend of all of this is why so many different music listeners enjoy our material. we like the fact that alot of different types of people can enjoy our music.
How big fan-base do you have in the US?
Im not exactly sure but we started there so its definitely were our strongest draw is. we are touring europe right now to try to change all that.
This summer you play on the Europe tour with the Annotations of an Autopsy and The Acacia strain. What are the feedbacks of the concerts like?
The concerts have been great and the european fans are awesome. The kids at the shows over here seem very appreciative and we are super happy to be here.
Is the promotion of the label, Ferret proper?
Ferret has been great for us and has handled the album great. we have seen alot of reviews as well as print ads for the new album and for our tour so we couldnt be happier.
In what extent do you feel this material to be different from your debut album?
I feel the material on shades is more mature and more melodic. I think that we focused on writing good cohesive songs and then the whole album came out alot better. i think its just the natural evolution of the band and we feel we have stepped our game wuite a bit with the new record. check it out!
How do you solve the problem of rehearsal? How close/far do you live to each other?
We all live relatively close but we have jobs and school and all sorts of things to work around. We usually practice on the weekends and write during the week.
Which bands are your main influences?
I think we all have different influences we bring to the table but as far as the new album goes i think it would be at the gates and carcass. As well as the black dahlia murder. we all love death metal as well so we take some influence from that.
Do the fans of hardcore and metal unite in the US?
Somewhat. Most of the issues take place in the pit but its all just part of letting out some good ol’ agression.
How much time did it take to record the album?
It took about 2 weeks but the mixing and mastering process took a while as well. I would say in all that it took about two and a half months.
Besides the music what activities do you have?
Myself our drummer and our guitar player all attend american universities so school takes alot of our time. between that and jobs we usually are pretty busy.
