Hello.
Nos, a zenekart 2004 közepén alapítottam, a többi srác később, 2004 végén – 2005 elején csatlakozott.
Az eredeti felállás a következőképpen nézett ki: Johan Lindstrand – ének, Mikael Lagerblad – gitár, Marek Dobrowolski -dobok, Valle Adzic-basszus és Pekka Kiviaho – ritmus gitár. Valle-t Robert Axelsson váltotta fel, közvetlenül a Children of Bodommal való turné előtt, később pedig Pekka helyére Mattias Bolander érkezett.
A banda 3 albumot és 2 singlet adott ki eddig, valamint jelenleg egy közép-európai turnén vagyunk a Unleashed-del és a Krisiun-nal a legutóbbi Grim Tales ablumunkat prezentálva.
Új év, új lemez. Szám szerint ez már a harmadik albumotok. Hogyan is dobtátok össze a Grim Tales dalait?
Természetes módon ment minden. Tudtuk, hogy egy őszinte death trash albumot akarunk csinálni mindenféle kísérletezés nélkül. Én és Mikael írtunk majdnem mindent, segítettünk egymáson és ez egy érettebb, koncentráltabb alkotásban nyílvánult meg.
Jonas Kjellgren producer milyen ötleteket adott a lemezfelvételnél?
Ő maga nem vállalt akkor részt a dalok megírásában, de természetesen volt egy csomó nagyszerű ötlete a rögzítés kapcsán, úgy értem, az ő érdeme ez a kemény hangzás és biztos, hogy legközelebb is őt választjuk, mert nagyon nyugodt légkört teremtett és kihozta belőlünk a maximumot.
Kiviaho a kezdetektől veletek volt, de kiszállt? Mi is történt, miért döntött így? A mostani felállás 100%-os?
Azért távozott, mert belefáradt egy csomó dologba. Nem szerette a turnékat és az utazásokon is sok vitánk volt mindenféle apróságok miatt. Helyre akartuk hozni a dolgokat, de ugyanakkor ő nem koncentrált a Grim Tales munkálataira. Tehát, ha rendet akartunk tenni, akkor az egyetlen út az volt, hogy egy olyan valaki kerüljön a helyére, akiben van motiváció és tehetség ahhoz, hogy egy következő szintre lépjünk. Mattias lett ez az ember; sokkal jobb zenész és egyértelműen a legjobb választás volt.
A zenéteken érezni a göteborgi dallamos death metalt és ehhez párosulnak a thrashes témák. Jó néhányan zenélnek hasonló stílusban. Hogy érzitek, mennyire tudtok még újat mutatni, mivel próbáltok extra minőséget elérni?
Nos, szerintem egyáltalán nem olyan a zenénk hangzása, mint egy tipikus göteborgi death metal banda. Ezzel nem azt akarom mondani, hogy különlegesek vagyunk, nem is próbálunk azok lenni. Csak annyi a célunk, hogy jó dalokat írjunk és hogy jobbakat, mint mások, hehe. A legfőbb tervünk azonban az, hogy jól érezzük magunkat és olyan zenét írjunk, ami arcon csapja az embereket.
Most épp a Hammer Battalion Europe 2008 fesztiválon vesztek részt az Unleashed és a Krisiun társaságában. Hát mit mondjak, nem kis nevek és ráadásul elég sok állomásból álló kör. Milyenek az eddigi tapasztalataid a koncertekkel kapcsolatban? Mennyire jön be az új album a srácoknak?
Sok turnénk volt a 2006 elejei első turnénk óta. Kb. 150 show-nk volt eddig, ezenkívül mindenki megtapasztalt néhányat még a volt zenekarával, az én esetemben pl. a The Crown-nal. A közönségnek – úgy tűnik – tetszik az új album, és élvezzük, hogy élőben játszhatunk.
Négy év alatt három albumot készítettetek, ami elég soknak mondható. Ennyi téma felhalmozódott bennetek, vagy ezt tartjátok reálisnak, hogy évente megjelenik egy új album?
Az első albumra majdnem az egész anyagot én írtam, de a másodiknál és a harmadiknál nagyobb volt az együttműködés a tagok között, így jobb zenét is tudtunk kreálni. A Grim Tales nagy részét én és Mike írtuk, de szerintem a negyedik album dalaiban Mattias is segíteni fog. Kérdésedre válaszolva, 3 teljes albumot és két single-t adtunk már ki, de tényleg nagyon sok gondolatunk volt, bár csak azt tudom mondani, hogy a negyedik lemez 2009-ben még biztos nem fog kijönni. Nem fogjuk sürgetni a dalszerzést.
A dalok szövegeire is kíváncsi lennék, mert elég érdekesnek mondhatóak. Miből merítitek az ötleteket? Melyik a kedvenc témád?
Igazából minden inspirál, ami extrém témákkal foglalkozik, pl. háború, bűnözés, saját tapasztalatok és persze egy kis fikció is kerül bele.
A CD limitált verzióban is megjelenik, ami egy bónusz DVD-t is tartalmaz. Milyen felvételeket láthatunk ezen a korongon?
A címe Grim Visions és tartalmaz egy felvételt a lemez készítéséről, egy galériát és néhány élő felvételt a tavalyi ausztriai Arge fesztiválról.
Szoktál őrültségeket csinálni?
Hehe, nem igazán, de úgy vélem, azok, akik ismernek inkább meg tudnák válaszolni a kérdést, mert lehet, hogy ahhoz is elég őrült vagyok, hogy felfogjam, mit csinálok ;-).
December elején véget ér a turnésorozat. Mit várhatunk a csapattól 2009-ben? Esetleg egy újabb lemezt?
Nem, nem lesz új album, de remélhetőleg több turné igen. Természetesen elkezdünk majd írni, de csak higgadtan, mert az a célunk, hogy jó munkát végezzünk, tehát valószínűleg a dalok felét eldobjuk majd, és újrakezdjük egészen az alapoktól, ha úgy gondoljuk, hogy nem a megfelelő minőségű. Ez azt jelenti, hogy ez egy kis időt vesz majd igénybe, hehe.

Welcome. Unfortunately, you’re not too well-known in Hungary so please introduce the band and its great musicians! Let’s turn back to the past a bit too.
-Hey man! Well, I formed the band in the middle of 2004 and the rest of the guys came a long in late 2004 and early 2005.
The original line up concisted of Johan Lindstrand-vocals, Mikael Lagerblad-lead guitar, Marek Dobrowolski-drums,Valle Adzic-bass and Pekka Kiviaho-rhythm guitar. Valle got replaced by Robert Axelsson almost immediately straight before the tour with Children of Bodom tour in 2006 in support of our debut album. Later on Pekka also got replaced by Mattias Bolander.
The band has done 3 albums and 2 singles and now we`re in the middle of a European tour with Unleashed and Krisiun to support our latest album Grim Tales.
New year, new record. This is your third album. How did you get together the songs of Grim Tales?
-They came quite natural and we kinda knew that we wanted to do a very straight forward death thrash album with no experiments. Me and Mikael wrote almost everything and we helped eachother out more this time instead of just doing the whole songs on your own and this has reflected in a more mature and more focused song writing.
What kind of ideas did producer Jonas Kjellgren give during the recording?
-He didn`t participate that much in the songs themselves but of course he had a lot of great ideas when it comes to the recoding itself.
I mean, he made this heavy sound for us and we will definitely go back to him since it was a very relaxed enviroment and he kinda brought out the best from us.
Kiviaho was with you since the beginning, but he’s out of the band now. Why did he leave the band? Do you think the current line-up is absolutely stable?
-He left because he was tired of the whole thing. He didn`t feel good about touring and we always had arguments on the road about simple bullshit stuff and we couldn`t have it like that anymore cause it brought negative vibes so we talked about making things better and at the same time he wasn`t that focused on Grim Tales. So he kinda knew that the only way to make it better was to leave the band so we could get a guy that was completely inspired and motivated to bring things to the next level. And Mattias is that guy and he`s also a much better musician so this was the absolute best thing that could happen.
In your music one can feel the melodic Gothenburg death metal, adding to it some thrash themes. There’s a lot of band playing is this genre. How do you feel you’re able to show something new? With which you are trying to reach some extra quality?
-Well, I really don`t think that we sound like a typical Gothenburg death metal band. But the again, we`re not unique and we don`t try to be. We just aim to write really good tunes and hopefully do it better than everyone else, hehe. The main goal is to have fun and write music that could be described as a big fat punch in the face.
Now you’re just playing in the Hammer Battalion 2008 tour with Unleashed and Krisiun. Well, these are big names and the tour has many dates. What kind of experience you’ve got so far concerning gigs? How much do the guys like your new album?
-We`ve done a lot of touring since the first tour in the beginning of 2006. Like 150 shows so we are quite experienced plus that we all have done shows with our previous bands before like me with The Crown etc. The audience really seem to dig the new album and the songs are fun to play live. And we also hope to play even more next year to promote Grim tales. The more the better:-)
You made three albums during four years which is quite much. Do you have so many themes or is it natural to have an album out each year?
-I wrote almost all material for the first album but on the second and third there are more cooperation between the members and when you are more songwriters you can write much more music. Grim tales is mainly written by me and Mike but for the forth one I think that also Mattias will join the songwriting. I mean, to answer your question. Yes, 3 full length album + 2 singles is a lot but I guess that we’ve been very inspired. But I can already say now that the fourth album will not come out in 2009. We will take it kind of easy with the songwriting for the next release.
I’d also be interested in your lyrics because these seem also interesting. Where do you get the ideas for them? Which is your fave topic?
-I get inspired by everything that deals with extreme themes like war, criminality combined with my own personal experiences in the world. And then in the end I also put some fictional topics in the mix.
The CD is coming out in a limited edition too, including a bonus DVD. What material does it feature?
-It’s entitled Grim Visions and includes a making of the album as well as a gallery and some songs recorded live from the Arge festival in Austria last year. It’s a cool bonus for the fans.
Do you do mad things?
-Hehe, no not really, but I think that other people that knows me would better answer this question cause I might be crazy enough to not understand what I do;-)
The tour will be over in the beginning of December. What can we expect from the band in 2009? Maybe a new album?
-No, not a new album but hopefully more touring. We will of course start to write new stuff but we’ll do it slowly and with the aim on writing the best work so far, so we might wanna throw away half the songs and begin from scratch if we think they don’t have the proper quality.That means it will take some time dude, hehe.
