Hell! Üdvözöllek benneteket az oldalon. Az „Existence is Futile” című második lemezetekkel ismertem meg a neveteket. Viszont a zenekar kezdete 2006-ra tehető. Kérlek, meséljetek kicsit a banda alakulásának körülményeiről, kik és hol alapították a Revocation-t?
A Revocation-ban Anthony Buda (basszus/vokál) és jómagam (gitár/vokál) játszunk. Boston, MA-ből származunk és a főiskolában kezdtünk el játszani Cryptic Warning néven. A CW inkább egy death metal elemekkel tűzdelt thrash metal banda volt. Fejlődött a stílusunk és úgy éreztük kinőttük a nevünket, így 2006-ban Revocation-re neveztük át azt.
Az első lemezetek „Empire of The Obscene” címmel még tavaly jelent meg, melyet sajnos még nem hallottam. Ez már egy kialakult zene elképzelés alapján készült? A kezdeti időben milyen bandák zenei anyagait hallgattátok, és kiknek hatására kezdtetek el metal zenét játszani?
Régebben sok death és thrash metált hallgattunk, így az „Empire” dalait olyan thrash bandák inspirálták, mint a Megadeath, Exhoder, Dark Angel, death metál bandák közül pedig a Cannibal Corpse, Pestilence és a Death.
A második kiadványt már egy komolyabb kiadó a Relapse Records gondozza. Hogyan kerültetek kapcsolatba velük, és mennyire vagytok megelégedve az eddigi munkájukkal?
Az „Empire” egy másolatát odaadtuk a Relapse rendelési osztályán dolgozó embernek, utána felkerült egy másiknak, aki a bandák leszerződtetésével foglalkozik. Eddig meg vagyunk elégedve a munkájukkal, jelenlegi tervünk egy nagyobb turné leszervezése.
Miben látjátok a legfőbb különbséget a két nagylemez között? Közös dalszerzés folyik a zenekarban? Hol és mikor mennyi idő alatt készült el a lemez?
Az „Existence” egy sokkal törekvőbb album, mint az „Empire” volt. A thrash részek thrashesebbek, a death metal részek pedig sokkal brutálisabbak és sokkal több progresszív elem is van benne. Megírom a riffeket és kiötlöm a hangszerelés nagy részét, aztán együtt elpróbáljuk a dalokat és megnézzük, ki, hogy érez.
Alapból thrash és death metal témákból tevődik össze a zenétek. A végeredmény pedig egy izgalmas zenei élmény lett melyben azért nem kevés technikás megoldás is szorul. Mennyi idő kell egy-egy dal megszületéséhez? Vannak-e olyan ötletek, amik ugyan felmerülnek, de mégsem férnek bele a Revocation zenei világába?
Néha elég gyorsan megszületnek a dalok, de néha sok munka kell hozzájuk. Megvan a sajátos stílusunk, de a cél, hogy a hangzás minket tükrözzön, így ha van olyan riff, ami nem illik oda, vagy nem tetszik egy bizonyos rész, akkor kidobjuk és kezdjük elölről.
Beszéljetek egy kicsit a szövegekről is. Milyen témákat jár körül egy-egy dal? Mennyire tartjátok fontosnak a mondanivalót ilyen zenei közegbe?
Az „Existence”-n levő dalszövegek elég változatosak. Nagy részük elbeszéléses vagy történetmesélős, mások pedig inkább magyarázós, fejtegetős módon íródtak. A témák kitérnek a személyes élettapasztalatokon át a klasszikus horror/sci fi történetekre is.
Mi a véleményetek a mai világról és a szervezett vallásokról? Mi tarotok fontosnak az életbe? Ha pár szóban meg kéne fogalmazni mi az élet értelme?
Véleményem szerint a szervezett vallások több kárt okoztak, mint amennyi hasznot hoztak. Biztosan használnak az embereknek, mivel érzik, hogy tartoznak egy közösséghez és arra buzdítja őket, hogy jobbá váljanak. Bár sokszor okoznak borzalmas konfliktusokat és megosztja az embereket. Szerintem az embereknek nem egy öreg könyv miatt kellene azzal törődniük, hogy saját és mások életét jobbá tegyék, hanem a bennük rejlő jóakarat miatt. Az a mottóm, hogy minden napot teljességgel éljünk meg és ne szarjunk rá.
Mennyire használjátok a mai kor egyik legnagyobb találmányát az internetet, és mi a véleményetek az illegális zeneletöltésekről?
Majdnem minden nap használjuk az internetet. Annyira beleágyazódott már a kultúrába, hogy nehéz lenne meglenni nélküle. A zeneletöltésnek mindenképpen negatív hatása van a lemezeladásokra. Ez elég idegessé teszi a lemezipart és a kiadók egyre kevesebb pénzt fektetnek a bandákba, mivel tudják, hogy nehéz lesz pénzt szerezni belőlük. A jó dolog benne, hogy a bandáknak a világméretű filemegosztásnak köszönhetően soha nem volt egyszerűbb ismertté válni mint most, ha egy felvétel megjelenik, 1 órán belül el lehet vele árasztani az internetet.
Visszatérve a zenekarra mi a helyzet az élő fellépésekkel? Lesz-e valamikor turné? Mik várhatók ezen a fronton? Ha lenne lehetőségetek kikkel mennétek szívesen turnéra?
Vannak tervek, de még semmi sincs kőbe vésve. Szeretnénk Európában játszani. A koncertjeinken jó a hangulat és addig headbangelhetsz, amíg az agyad ki nem jön az orrodon. Megtiszteltetés lenne olyan nagyokkal játszani, mint a Testament, vagy a Megadeath, de az új generációval is szívesen turnéznánk, mint pl. a Job For A Cowboy vagy a The Black Dahlia Murder.

Hello! Welcome to our site! First I met the name of your band when I heard „Existence is Futile”. But the band exists since 2006. Please tell us something about the circumstances where and how was Revocation formed, and by who?
Revocation is comprised of Anthony Buda (bass/vocals) Phil Dubois (drums) and myself (guitar/vocals) We all from Boston, MA and we started playing in high school under the name Cryptic Warning. CW was more of an old school thrash metal band with some elements of death metal here and there. Eventually our style started to evolve and we felt like we outgrew our name so we decided to change it to Revocation in 2006.
Your first album, Empire of the Obscene, was released last year. Unfortunately, I’ve haven’t heard that so far. Were the songs written after a musical pre-conception? In the early ages, what kind of music did you listen to, and who influenced you to start composing metal music?
We were listening to a lot of death and thrash metal in the early days so the songs on „Empire” are heavily influenced by thrash bands like Megadeth, Exhoder, Dark Angel and death metal bands such as Cannibal Corpse, Pestilence and Death.
Your second album was released by a more appreciated label, Relapse Records. How did you make your first contact with them? How well are you satisfied with their work?
We gave one of the dudes who worked in their mail order department a copy of „Empire” and it eventually worked its way up the chain of command to the main dude who signs bands. So far we are satisfied with the work and promotion Relapse has done for us, our main concern right now is to get on some bigger tour packages.
What are the main differences between the two albums? Do you write the songs together? Where and when did you compose the songs, and how long didi t take?
„Existence” is a more ambitious record than „Empire.” The thrash parts are thrashy-er, the death metal parts are more brutal and there are more progressive elements as well. I write the riffs and do most of the arranging and then we all jam out on the songs and see if everyone is feeling it.
The frame of your music is thrash and death metal. The result is a great, exciting musical experience, which is technically also very good. How long does it take for a song to be born? Did you have any ideas which didn’t suit the musical world of Revocation, and thus they were ignored?
The time it takes to write a song varies, sometimes it’ll come together really quickly and other times it will be more of a labor intensive process. We have a unique style but the goal is to have our music sound like us, so if there is a particular riff that just doesn’t fit or we don’t like a certain part of a song we’ll scrap it and start over.
Tell us something about the lyrics. What are the themes which build up the songs? How is it important for you to hide a message in the lyrics of the songs?
The lyrics are pretty varied on „Existence.” Some lyrics are written in more of a narrative or story line style while others are more of a commentary. Topics range from our personal life experiences to themes based off of classic horror/sci fi films.
What do you think about our recent world and about religion? What are the important things for you in your life? In a few words, please tell us, in your opinion, what the meaning of the life is!
Organized religion has done more harm than good in my opinion. I think it works for some people because it makes them feel connected to a community and makes them strive to better themselves and others. However, it has also been the cause of terrible atrocities and also tends to divide people who believe differently. I think people should strive to improve their own lives and others not because of an old book, but because of an internal sense of benevolence that should be inherent in people who are sane. My life motto- live each day to the fullest and don’t be an asshole about it.
How often do you use one of the most important invention of the new age, the Internet? What do you think about illegal music downloads?
I use the internet almost everyday. It’s so ingrained in our culture now that its hard to get away from it. Downloading music is here to stay and it is definitely having a negative impact on record sales. This is making the record industry very nervous and now many labels are less likely to put as much money into a band because they know it will be difficult to recoup. On the up side it has never been easier for bands to get exposure because file sharing is on a global scale and the day a record leaks it could be all over the world in a matter of a few hours if there is enough buzz on the internet about it.
Back to your band, let’s speak about the live concerts. Do you plan to have a live tour? What can we expect? With who would you like to go on a tour next time?
We have some things in the works right now but nothing is set in stone. We would love the opportunity to come and play Europe some time soon. At our live show you can expect to have a good time and headbang till your brain comes out of your nose. It would be an honor to tour with the greats like Testament or Megadeth but it would also be cool to tour with the newer generation of metal bands that kids are really into like Job For A Cowboy or The Black Dahlia Murder.
