Uraim, meghajlok Önök előtt, hiszen remek albumot hoztak össze! Az alkotás éjszakái hogy teltek? Mennyire kerültetek topformába?
Köszönjük szépen! Hát, elég bonyolult és elfoglalt időszakunk volt, hiszen nem is mindannyian voltunk egy helyen vagy egy stúdióban! Szerintem egy zenész sem mondaná soha, hogy 120%-os formájában van – a legfontosabb az, hogy adott körülmények között megpróbáljuk kihozni magunkból a lehető legjobb eredményt.
Kaptatok olyan levelet a rajongóktól, akik elmondták milyen albumot szeretnének tőletek? Hallgattok a rajongókra 🙂 ?
Mindig szempont számunkra, hogy a rajongók mit szeretnek, mit hallanának szívesen, számunkra pedig ők tényleg fontosak. Nem, őszintén szólva sok üzenetet kaptunk, amiben az új albumról érdeklődtek, de igazából senki nem próbált terelni minket valamilyen adott hangzás felé. Mi mindenképpen azon voltunk, hogy a lehető legjobb Serenity albumot hozzuk el nekik.
A stúdióba belépés pillanatában gondolom megváltozik minden, csak a zene és semmi más! Mesélnél erről a pillanatról?
Sajnos azt kell, hogy mondjam, hogy az ipar megváltozott mostanság, és már rengeteg tényező van, ami hatással lehet rád és a felvételekre. Szeretnénk, ha meglenne még ez a valóságtól „elzárt” fíling egy pár hétre/hónapra, hogy a teljes figyelmünket az új albumnak szentelhessük. Ebben szerintem az a jó, hogy dinamikus, a jó hangulat pedig beleivódik a magukba a dalokba is.
Hogyan zajlott az egész, értem ezalatt, hogy milyen sorrendben és hogyan vettétek fel a dalokat?
Erre pontosan emlékszem, mivel én először úgy kaptam meg a producerünktől, Jan Vaciktól a dalokat, hogy azok még a munkacímüket viselték – „Jan 01, 02, 03…”. Szerintem a legelső, amit felvettem a Fate of Light volt, ami Jan 01 név alatt futott 🙂 Aztán jött a Follow Me, Reason, Sprouts of Terror, a legvégén pedig a Caught in a Myth (ami Jan 05 volt). Jan 04 és Jan 05 között vettük fel a Chris 01-et (ez volt az Iniquity), aztán képszakadás, többre nem emlékszek 😀
Az album nagyzenekari hangszerelésben bővelkedik és rengetek fülbemászó dallammal kecsegtet. Mit mondanál erről? Hogyan fonódik össze?
Nagyon jó kérdés. Szerintem megférhetnek egymás mellett. Ha az ötlet, aztán a dal nem teljesen a nagyzenekaron alapul, a nagyzenekar viszont a „szín”, a megfelelő háttér, akkor még meglehet a fülbemászó alap. Nekünk szerintem ez a receptünk!
A „Codex Atlanticus” egy tudományos történet, amely Da Vinci életéről és mindenféle művészetéről szól! Miért ezt választottátok témának? Szerinted mit szólna Ő ehhez az alkotáshoz?
Az előző két albumunk ugyebár történelmi személyek, életük és hagyatékuk körül forgott. Ehhez a mostani lemezhez úgy gondoltuk, hogy csak egy személyre koncentrálunk, én pedig még mindig emlékszem a pillanatra, amikor 2014. júliusában erről beszélgettünk a Masters of Rock CZ-s fellépésünk után, ahol feljött a téma. Leonardo neve úgy emlékszem egy spontán választás volt, nem is emlékszek más nevekre, rögtön őt szavaztuk meg! Aztán arra gondoltunk, hogy csinálhatnánk egyfajta naplót az életéről, létének különböző pillanataiban, aztán hopp, „Codex Atlanticus”!
Úgy nyilatkoztatok az albumról, hogy akár a „Trónok harca” betétzenéi is lehetnének a dalok. Szeretnéd, ha összejönne hasonló kooperáció a jövőben? Egyébként tetszik a „Trónok harca”?
Az biztos! Mindannyian a sorozat nagy rajongói vagyunk, a „Song of Ice & Fire” pedig 2014 és 2015 között a turnéintrónk volt! Nagyratörő feltételezés, de egy kooperáció egy jövőbeli betétdalhoz nem tenne rosszat a Serenity zenéjének sem…
Hamarosan kezdődik egy hosszú koncertsorozat. Először a Xadria, majd a Powerwolf és Battle Beast társaságával. Lehet ez lesz a Serenity legjobb éve és felemelkedése 🙂 ?
Imádkozunk! Nagyon sűrű időszak lesz, de ez egyben azt is jelenti, hogy jó lesz, egy új album pedig a sűrű időszakokban a legjobb!
Gondolom öröm lesz találkozni a rengeteg rajongóval és a dicséretek tömkelegét begyűjteni. Milyen setlist-tel és meglepetésekkel készültök?
A rajongók imádni fogják, hogy a setlistet frissítjük a Codex Atlanticus dalaival, és megpróbálunk majd minél többet játszani belőlük a „klasszikusaink” mellett – így hát mindenkit szeretettel meghívok a turnénk koncertjeire! A meglepetésekre ott derül majd fény!
Idén ünneplitek a 15 éves felállásotokat? Terveztek valami extra dolgot?
Mmm, jó ötlet… Jövőre pedig volt plusz egy ötlet… tudod, a WU&DU 10 éves lesz 😉

Gentlemen, you have my recognition, as you have put together a great album! How did the nights of creation go by? Were you guys in your top shape?
Oh this is great! Thank you very much! Well, we had a quite complicated and busy time, as we were not all in the same place or the same studio! I don’t think any musician would ever admit to be 120% of his/her shape, but the only thing is trying to deliver the best result on certain circumstances.
Did you get messages from fans telling you what kind of an album they wanted to hear from you? Did you take heed 🙂 ?
We always pay attention to what our fans like, would like to hear, and we do care a lot about them. Nope, honestly we got many messages about being curious of our new album, but for sure no one giving us exact coordinates on how it would have had to sound like. We for sure tried to give them the best Serenity album possible.
I bet everything changes when you step into the studio – from then on, it’s just the music and nothing else! Would you tell us about this moment?
Unfortunately have to admit the business has changed lately, and there are so many factors that can influence you and the recordings at any time. We wish we could have this kind of feeling of being “isolated” from reality for some weeks/months in order to dedicate our complete attention to our new album. The positive factor I see into this is being dynamic and getting the good vibes into the songs themselves.
How did you pull it all off? By which I mean in what order did you record the songs?
I remember that, as for my case, I first of all got the songs we worked with our producer, Jan Vacik, and they were obviously working-titled “Jan 01,02,03..” – I think the very first I recorded was Fate of Light, which was Jan 01 🙂 Then I did Follow me, Reason, Sprouts of Terror and at the very end Caught in a Myth (which was Jan 05). Between Jan 04 and Jan 05, I remember I recorded Chris 01 (which was Iniquity) and then I have a blackout, I can’t remember anymore 😀
The album is abundant in orchestral arrangements and is full with catchy tunes. What would you say about this? How do the two merge?
Very nice question. I guess there can be a living-together both things. If the idea, and then the song is not completely based on the orchestra, but the orchestra is the “color” and its background, there can still be a catchy feeling. I think this is the recipe for us!
“Codex Atlanticus” is a scientific story about Da Vinci’s life and all kinds of arts! Why did you guys choose this topic? What do you think he would have to say about this material?
As you might remember, we based our previous 2 records on historical characters, their lives and their legacies. For this record, we had the idea to focus just on one person, and I still remember the moment we were discussing about it, after our show at Masters of Rock CZ, in July 2014, when this idea came to the table. I guess the name of Leonardo was a spontaneous choice, I don’t remember any other name, we just picked him right away! Then we thought of building up a sort of diary of his life, in different moments of his existence, and there you go, the “Codex Atlanticus”!
You guys said that this album could be the soundtrack of Game of Thrones. Would you like it if such a cooperation would turn up in the future? Do you guys like Game of Thrones?
For sure! We are all big fans of this series, and we had the “Song of Ice & Fire” as our tour intro between 2014 and 2015! It’s a really ambitious statement, but a cooperation for a future soundtrack wouldn’t be a bad idea for Serenity’s music…
A long tour is coming up for you soon. First with Xadria, then in the company of Powerwolf and Battle Beast. Maybe this is going to be Serenity’s best year and ascension 🙂 ?
Let’s pray for this! It’s going to be a really busy period of time, but busy means great, and a new album is always the best period while getting busy!
I bet you’re looking forward to meeting all those fans and reaping the glory. How does your setlist look like and what surprises do you have in mind?
The fans will love the fact the set-list will be renewed by the Codex Atlatnicus songs, and we’ll try to play most of them, as well as our “classics”, so I invite everyone to check the shows during the tours! Surprises will be revealed!
Is this year your 15th anniversary? Are you guys planning anything extra?
Mmm, nice idea…But, there was an extra idea for next year…you know WU&DU is getting 10 years old 😉
