Skull Fist Interjú

(scroll down for English Version)

Haha

Mivel nem vagytok ismertek hazánkban, arra kérnélek, hogy mutasd be kérlek a zenekar tagjait! Hogyan jellemeznéd őket emberileg?

Jackie Slaughter on paul stanley’s
Sir Shred on Ace Frehley’s
Johnny Exciter on Gene Simmons’
Alison Thunderland on Peter Criss’
A Skull Fist heavy metal harcosokból áll, Észak-Kanadából. Harcolunk a világgal.

Én játszottam a Maniacban is.

A Skull Fist hogyan, mikor jött létre?

Anvil, Death Militia, Sacrifice stb., milyen a mai metal élet a városban? Mi a véleményed a nagy nevű torontói bandákról?

Az összes torontói old school banda közül a Reckless-t szeretem a legjobban. Voltam néhány Anvil koncerten, imádtam, mielőtt a filmek kijöttek.

A két demós felvételt, amúgy újravettétek?

A Sign of the Warrior egy régi 30 Years Too Late dal. Megváltoztattam rajta ezt-azt és gyorsabbá tettem. A Heavier Than Metalt máshogy írtuk, viszont ki kellett rúgni a régi gitárosunkat, ugyanis sosem jött el! Ekkor került vissza Shred a gitár részre, átírt néhány dolgot és kész lett a Heavier Than Metal.

Sok barom arról beszél, hogy mindenki próbál old school metalt nyomni. Ugyanaz a szar! Valamelyik gyorsabb, valamelyik súlyosabb!

A Skull Fist mennyiben tér el a korábbi zenekaraitoktól illetve mennyiben tér el tőlük?

Nagyjából ugyanaz a stílus. A 30 Years Too Late kevésbé érett. Fiatalok voltunk, még mindig azok vagyunk. De úgy értem 17 évesek. A Skull Fistnél kicsit kevésbé lehettem retardáltabb. hahaha.

Jelenleg a világuralom a cél!
A jó harcot vívjuk! hahah!

Köszönöm szépen az interjút, további sok sikert kívánok!

Igen haver, zúzzatok!!!

ENGLISH VERSION:

Hail from Hungary! I suppose this is your first itnerview with a Hungarian metal media.

Roger that dude, I believe it is! rock n roll hungary! Haha

Since you are not that known at us, please introduce the band to us. Please characterize the members.

Jackie Slaughter on paul stanley’s
Sir Shred on Ace Frehley’s
Johnny Exciter on Gene Simmons’
Alison Thunderland on Peter Criss’
Skull Fist are heavy metal warriors Originally from Northern Canada. Givnr Shit. Fighting the World.

You played in Maniac and 30 Years Too Late. What can you tell us about these bands?

30 years too late sir shred was also in. It was a band we did when were kids. Truthfully… We didn’t play very well either hahaha but we managed to do a few recordings and release some almost half decent material hahah. It was while we lived In porcupine ontario which is a tiny town outside of timmins ontario. Same place where that witch shania twain is from. Tons of retard country fans out there hahaah.
Maniac was johnny’s band. It was high speed thrash. Johnny needed a bass player when we moved here to toronto and skull fist was still looking for members. I played bass with maniac on the side. We went on an east coast tour but i ended up breaking my collar bone a few hours before the first show and we had to cancel the whole tour hahah it suckedd ass man! There is footage of it online as well haha so check it out! I played bass in his band. So he played bass in my band. Hahaha maniac was doing really well for awhile too which was fun as shit. But i geuss the momentumm slowed down. Blew some bearings in the wheels i geuss? hahaha

How and when did you create Skull Fist? Was it easy to find the fanatic, enthusiastic members?

Me and sir Shred decided to leave the Northern lands and migrate to Toronto, Ontario. We brought nothing other than our guitars and some toy dolls of the Beatles which I ended up losing at some point. I used to use them as G.I. Joes…they weren’t as flexible though. So we moved to Toronto. Lived in the scuzziest roach ratt infested place ever–one room apartment with 5 guys, my share of rent was like a hundred bucks or something. We knew we needed to start a new band and end the 30 Years Too Late saga (genesis). We were drunk, watching the movie „Black Roses”. I seen the album cover and it has a picture of a skull on it. I was drunk and said man if that were my album cover I would have nothing but a clenched skull fist on it!! Skull fist meaning skeleton fist but my vocabulary isn’t very extensive and of course gets cut in half when I’m drunk. I thought it was the coolest cover in the world in my head and I grabbed a marker and wrote it onto a yellow blank shirt I had. Almost exactly how the logo is now hahahah. And thus the band was born. It took a few days to get Shred to agree and thus beginning the saga (genesis). It was retarded hard to find the right guys. Retarded. We went through tons and tons and ounces of heavy metal dudes that came and went. We just wanted to rock all the time. We love to get wasted and shit too but rockinnn came first! Most dudes couldnt understand that. It took a while to get alison eventually and same with johnny. He came after we recorded the E.P. actually. We recorded as a 3 piece and played shows with a filler inner dude.

I was shocked that you have a lady behind the drums, Alison Thunderland. She reminds me of Allan Johnson (Exciter)…

Hahah i always try to convince her to play some exciter and sing like dan beehler did! Hahaha but all johnson is rad as hell too!

You are from Toronto, which was a serious metal scene back in the ’80s (Anvil, Death Militia, Sacrifice etc.). What is the recent metal scene like there? What’s your opinion about the known bands from Toronto.

I think out of all the oldschoolage bands from toronto I love reckless the best. They ripped. lee aaron had some great stuff too! but man… She had some not so great stuff as well hahaha but for some reason im still totally down with body rock. Hahahah tuff girls dont cry man! hahaha sacrifice was rad as hell. I seen them do there reunion shows here. Which was insane haha also I used to watch anvil before the movie here all the time. I’ve been to an anvil show with like 8 different people and that was it. haha i loved it before the movies came out though. The hidden gem really. The new bands nowadays are rad as shit too!

Regarding your photos I think you are somewhere in the age of 20. Your inspirations like Jaguar, Iron Maiden, Tokyo Blade roots back to the ‘80s so you haven’t even lived or were small children when NWOBHM was flourishing. What’s your opinion about this? How did you come up with the idea of choosing this genre?

It just happened really. I just started writing tunes and thats what they sounded like. It’s not that i said hey. I want to sound exactly like this. It’s just thats how it happened i geuss haha.
It’s the relentless pursuit of more tunes to listen to for what helped us find all those old bands as well. But still truthfully enough. I was dwelling in my dads testicle region when all those bands were in there prime hahaha

Your demo, No False Metal came out in 2006. Do you have anything important info to share about this?

It was a drunkin basement recording. That was really it haha we had this old drummer dude and it was just me shred and him. We couldn’t find a bass player so i was doing the bass and singing and we were going with one guitar at the time. We actually had a few songs we were going to record but our drummer decided it was a better idea to do a shitload of drugs and not hold it together. He managed to bang out those 2 songs though and eventually we canned em. Shred bought the gear to record and then resold it right after. Hahaha it was pretty much a big mess. but it was fun as hell and I am still happy about the whole ordeal. It was a damned good time. We had this house we were living in that this bro johnny let us stay in. He helped us out like crazy since we were retarded and couldnt get our shit together hahaha. We ended up getting kicked out of the house for throwing a big tv off the roof one night though…..son of a… hahaha

As far as I know you sell the record on concerts. Does this mean that you haven’t send copies to fanzines/webzines or labels? You don’t promote it? Do you have any other demos beyond this one?

We mailed it out to tons and tons of magazines and radio stations and labels. We’ve gotten about 60-70 reviews since it came out hahah so we did a shit load of promotion i think with it. We did the E.P. in a basement as well in a day or two’s time. It was fun as hell like usual. hahah next time well put in some more effort and go to a real studio though!

You released a 5 songs EP Heavier Than Metal. Why did it take 4 years to make a new record? What happened?

Its a supper supper long story. Hahah the dudes and dudettes here in toronto got a chance to see some of the wacky shit that went down. but truthfully. People just kept coming and going man. I’d find some dudes thatd talk shit about how dedicated they are and 4 months later id be kicking them out for being lazy dicks! In the words of ace. rock soldiers come. Rock soldiers go. Some hear the drum, and some never know!!

Near the three demo tracks you put 2 new songs on the EP. When did you write these 2 new songs? Did you re-record the 2 demo songs btw?

Well the demo only had 2 tracks on it. And then when the band was just me and alison we went into the studio and did a demo of blackout. It was a shyster studio and it turned out horrible. Hahaha and we paid a shitload of cash for it. No false metal and ride the beast I wanted to re-record and put on the E.P. because i loved the tunes and wanted to hear them with better quality. Sign of the warrior I took from an old 30 years too late song i wrote haha i just changed some shit around and made it faster. Heavier than metal was actually written much differentely but as we were about to record the E.P. we had to kick out the other guitar player since he never showed! That was when we got shred back on guitar and we re-wrote some of the parts that needed re-writing and shabam, heavier than metal was ready to givr shit hahaha

How would you describe the stuff to the fans?

No need to describe it. they are the fans! hahahahah I would say its heavy metal tunes man. We just write songs and if you like em. fucking right. if you dont. then go listen to some other shit! Hahahah

Our webzine gave 8 points out of 10 to the EP, what are the other reviews like?

We’ve gotten nothing but rad reviews. The odd time you’ll hear some dork talking about how everyone is trying to be oldschool metal now. Which is fuckin retarded. Only a small handful of guys are out there playing an oldschool sound of heavy metal. Not a whole lot at all! You can count them on two hands. But then theres a trillion death metal bands and black metal and. Which is fine. I like black and death too. But a good punch in the nose should go to the dorks who talk shit about nwobhm. Metal is metal, black, death, thrash or nwobhm. It’s all the same shit! some faster! Some heavier!

What are the differences between Skull Fist and your former bands?

Pretty much the same style, but really. 30 years too late was less mature i geuss hahah really. We were young. We’re still young, but i mean 17 young. As hard as it is to believe I actually had to tone it down a little for skull fist. And not be so retarded. hahahah

There are many traditional metal music from Canada (3 Inches Of Blood, you, Evil Sinners). Can you recommend any new bands we don’t know yet?

Theres tons of them man! And i know if i start saying them all someones gonna whine about it and gooo ohhhh they didn’t mention my band. But whatever ill try i geuss traditional metal bands in canada? I’d say cauldron and midnight malice i geuss. 3 inches of blood I wouldn’t say is traditional metal but some dudes would call them that haha. but the vocal dude does have some badass screams!

What can you tell us about your future plans? When will you release your first full album?

Next year. Writing the songs for the album right now. Gonna givr balls in europe in january. The dates are online. right after that we record the album. And gonna release the damned thing and see what happens. Hahah were planning the next step in world domination right now! FIGHTIN THE GOOD FIGHT! hahaha

Thank you for the interview, All The Best!

Hell yeah brother!!!! Party on man! totally badass!!!
