The Great Old Ones Interjú

(scroll down for English Version)

A kérdésekre Xavier Godart válaszolt.

Mikor mesélt Jeffnek a projektről, minden felgyorsult.

A zenekar feje természeten Benjamin.

Jeff Grimal (gitár/ének) készítette a banda minden grafikáját.

ENGLISH VERSION:

Answered by Xavier Godart.

Hey, First of all thanks for answering a few questions!

Thanks to you for your time !

First of all tell me about, how The Great Old Ones become a band from a one man band project and why?

I think when Benjamin started to write, he was already hoping to play these songs live. He just needed to find some guys who can work with him. When he talk to Jeff about this project, everything had gone really fast. Léo, Sébastien and I joined them quickly after.

How did the studio work go? How much time did it take?

Well, it was kind of an „into the wild” experience. All the songs were written, we had an precise idea of what we wanted in terms of sound, but a not so precise idea of how we gonna achieve this. For that, Cyrille Gachet was really helpfull. He’s a sound master, he know how to create a singular ambiance. We tried a lot effect combinaison and we recorded everything in 8 days. And it took 8 more days to mix the whole album. Today, we are really satisfied by the result.

Who is the mastermind behind the songs? Are the songs Benjamin’s work from before the band’s establishing or have they changed and everyone put some things in it?

The mastermind is, of course, Benjamin. He wrote 5 of the 6 songs on the album. Everyone had put his sensibility in each songs, but most structures didn’t change. Now each member take a part in the composition process but Benjamin still write the most of the material.

When and where you get into H.P. Lovecraft’s work? Why do you love him so much?

Benjamin and Jeff get into Lovecraft works when they was teenagers. I don’t know exactly why they love him so much, but I think they was deeply marked by the oppressing aspect of his writing.

I Really loved the artwork on your cd-s cover and in the booklet, who made it and what does the cover represents?

Jeff Grimal (guitar/vocals) made all artworks for the band. He’s a really talented and prolific artist. The artworks on the CD represent an ocean swarms of lovecraftian entities and deities. Presumably in the depths of this ocean is buried the city of R’lyeh where Cthulhu waits patiently for someone to deliver him.

Were the strings parts made with plugins and other computer stuff or with real instruments.

Everything you ear on this album was played with real instruments. There is no synths, no virtual instruments, except for the cello part on the intro of „Rue d’Auseil”. These ambiences are the result of multiple parts of guitars with a bunch of effects like delay and reverb, plus the natural reverb of the place where we were recording.

Do you like the final sound of the album? What are the future plans and what will be different on the next album?

Like I said before, we’re really happy with the result. It is definitly what we were looking for. It’s to soon to talk about the next album, even if we have enough material already. Right now, we’re focusing on preparing tours for the end of the year. BOOK US ! (thegreatoldonesband@gmail.com).

…And one last typical question for the end, what would you say to your Hungarian fans?:)

Can’t wait to play in your country ! I’ve been in Budapest a couple times and I still have a hangover !
