A Slayer valamelyik lemeze alighanem minden metal rajongó lejátszójában megfordult és megfordul még a mai napig. A komplex thrash/death metal-ban utazó zenekar története a stílus születésének idejére nyúlik vissza. Az össze nem téveszthető karcos, energikus hangzás, a fejedelmi ének mind meghatározó jegyei többek közt a banda életművének. Az amerikai négyes fogat – Dave Lombardo (dob), Jeff Hanneman (gitár), Kerry King (gitár), Tom Araya (ének, basszusgitár) – felállás 1981-ben jött létre.
Show No Mercy címmel adták ki első lemezüket 1983-ban, míg utoljára 2006-ban a „Christ Illusion”-t, amivel szintén sikerült port kavarniuk, ahogyan pályájuk során nem egyszer.

A hangszeresek itt is kiváló témavezetést hoznak össze, dinamikus játékot hallhatunk, egyedi hangokkal fűszerezve.
A Spirit In Black egy dühös nóta, a középtempó nyújtotta lehetőségek száz százalékig kihasználva, reszelős, durva riffek, hatásos ének színezi a feszes szerkezet adta teret.

A Hallowed Point szinte kirobban a falakból, gyors, agresszív ritmusok, elsöprő lendület, káosz.
A Temptation dühöngő, nyers ereje meghatározó vonalat visz végig, a kidolgozott témák egymást váltják/erősítik.

A Born On Fire folytatja a zúzós nóták sorát, energikus, feszes tempóval ütnek a verzék és a refrén is. A gitárok sebesen hajtanak, a dob gyors, pontos, a basszusgitár, pedig mindenhol jelen van. A szóló itt is elvont, a stílus jól megfigyelhető old-school mintája, és hát valljuk be, a Slayer igencsak sok zenekarra volt hatással pályája során.
Az utolsó track a címadó Seasons In The Abyss komplex témái méltán képviselik a banda zenéjét.

ENGLISH VERSION:

One of Slayer’s albums has surely been played and is played on the stereo of every metal fan. The story of the complex thrash/death metal band goes back to the times of the birth of the genre. The uniquely harsh, energetic sound, the regal vocals are all the characteristics, among others, of the band’s career. The classic line-up, including Dave Lombardo (drums), Jeff Hanneman (guitar), Kerry King (guitar), Tom Araya (vocals, bass), got together in 1981.
Their debut came out in 1983 titled Show No Mercy, and their last stuff in 2006 (Christ Illusion) with which they also managed to stir things up a bit as they did several times. They’ve been attacked several times due to the lyrics, music and stage appearance but they’ve always held out. The line-up remained almost unchanged although there were some changes at the drummer seat but, somehow, Lombardo always gets back to them which is good. It”s nearly impossible to present their career through only one record though I try it.

War ensemble opens the album, a track which is absolutely powerful. The guitar riffs shred, the drums are rattling, the vocals are aggressive and they blow everything on their way. Well-composed themes alternate and of course the dual solo also make it a very good piece.
The pulsating bitterness and growing wrath of Blood Red make the mood of the track even more massive. The themes are also excellent here, the play is dynamic and the mood is unique.
Spirit In Black is angry song, exploiting its mid-paced nature entirely. Raw, raspy riffs and effective vocals colour the tight structure. This one surely makes you bang your head.
Expendable Youth starts with a heavy, pounding theme with a pleasantly thick sound, powerful drumming and tight guitar themes. As if you’re in a grinder… The technical insets are excellent and raw. And the solos give some plus unleashing energy too.

Dead Skin Mask is a calm-paced tune, with a hard as a stone structure and performance. Morbid mood, heavy lyrics – these are all just tiny pieces of the feeling the track gives.
Hallowed Point is just exploding from the speakers – fast, aggressive rhythms, overwhelming dynamics, chaos. The tight tempo mainly builds its powerful structure on the base, but the technical parts, solos, the negative mood and the thick sound aren’t missing either. Sounds cool.
Skeletons Of Society again starts off with a grinding theme with a moderate tempo but with heavy vocals and effective lyrics. The emphasis is also on the music here, the base is solid and dynamic, and colouring is done by the smaller insets and the play of the vocals.
The raging, raw power of Temptation is determining, worked-out themes alternate here and strengthen each other. The vocals are varied with incredible solutions and the instruments sound lively. There’s more variation in it, the playing is complex and strong.

Born of Fire is also a crushing track with energetic, tight tempos at the verses and the chorus. The guitar and drum themes are fast and precise. The solo is also abstract and example of the oldschool that has much impact on a lot of bands.
The last one is the title track with complex themes. Under the fine guitar themes the drums are more modest but after the longer introductory part the guitars began to shred. The vocals are important here too and it’s playful within its own domain. They also made a video for this one fitting the song perfectly.
I can only recommend the band to anyone who doesn’t know Slayer!
