Azt hiszem, a finn zenekar történetét nem kell hosszasan bemutatnom a Black Metal igazi elkötelezettjei számára. Elég legyen annyi, hogy a mintegy 11 évnyi hibernáció után meglehetősen erős visszatérést produkáltak, melynek eredménye volt a 2006-os „Whore of Bethlehem” album. Lemezkiadó tekintetében egyébként ismét változás történt náluk, a Hammer Of Hate helyett ezúttal a szintén földalatti Blasphemous Underground vette szárnyai alá a zenekart. Ma pedig már a Debemur Mortinál vannak, ahol feltehetően hosszabb ideig fognak majd kitartani.
Új lemezük ismét egy rendkívüli minőségű dalgyűjtemény, ami még a debütáló nagylemezt is felülmúlja! És ez nem kis dolog szerintem. Egyébként ezúttal még rövidebb anyagot készített az istentelen trió, afféle „Reign in Blood” szellemiséggel. Ám a tömör, velős anyag semmi kivánnivalót nem hagy maga után. És hogy mitől jobb, mint az eddigi anyagok? Alapvetően a fogósabb, jobb témákban tudnám megadni a magyarázatot, illetve az is hozzájárul ehhez, hogy talán itt-ott több lassabb (de nem kevésbé súlyos) részt is beiktattak. Egyébként a Hangulat, Atmoszféra továbbra is Sátáni, Sötét és Szentségtelen, mint amit már eddig megszokhattunk, hasonlóan természetesen a dalszövegekhez. Persze ez utóbbiakat elképzelhetően fogja néhány kritika érni amiatt, hogy mindig Sátáni Sötétségről és hasonló témákról szólnak, de ez ugye Black Metal, nem felejtettük el. Az énekhang egyébiránt szintén fejlődött, mélyebb, kifejezőbb, mint eddig, olyan, mint a Pokol mélyéről felbugyogó gonosz kénfolyam. Az ARCHGOAT zenéjének mindig is volt egy nem is tagadott Death Metalos éle, ami szintén megmaradt, ám ez is a legfeketébb esszenciát közvetíti. Érdekes egyébként, hogy néhány téma ritmusa, illetve maga témák is emlékeztetnek az AUTOPSY egyes puritán dolgaira, ami nem baj, bár nem hiszem, hogy szándékos másolásról lenne szó. Nehéz egyébként külön kiemelnem a legjobb dalokat, mivel gyakorlatilag mind az. Végre egy lemez, ahol tényleg nem csupán 1-2 nagyon erős, és 7-8 közepes, vagy attól gyengébb dal osztozik, hanem a színvonal egységesen erős a „3rd Invocation” introtól kezdve a „The Dawn of the Antichrist” zárótételig.
Az év egyik legnagyobb albuma számomra a „Fénypusztító Sötétség”, ehhez kétség sem férhet. A zenekar pedig, az INQUISITION-nel egyetemben, a Sátáni Black Metal jelentőségteljes védőbástyája.

ENGLISH VERSION:
I believe that the true fans of Black Metal need no longer introduction regarding ARCHGOAT’s history. It should be enough that after a 11 year-long hibernation they produced a very strong return, the result of which was 2006’s „Whore of Bethlehem” record. Concerning their record label, there’s a change again. After Hammer Of Hate this album was put out by again an Underground company, Blasphemous Underground. And now, they’re on Debemur Morti where they presumably will remain for a longer time.
The new album of theirs is again a collection of tracks of incredible quality that tops even their debut full-length! And it’s a big thing in my opinion. Anyway, the unholy trio has made an even shorter stuff this time, with a kind of „Reign in Blood” mentality. But the compact, to the bone material leaves nothing to be desired. And what is that makes this better than the previous releases? Basically, I could give the explanation for that in the catchier and better themes, and also the fact contributes to it that they have some slower (but not the least light) parts here and there. The Mood, the Atmosphere is still Satanic, Dark and Unholy which we can be used to, and so are the lyrics of course. Obviously, these latter will presumable be criticized by some people that they are still singing about Satanic Darkness and similar things but it’s of course Black Metal, one shouldn’t forget about that. Anyway, the vocals are also mature; it’s deeper, more expressive than before, like a sulphur stream bubbling from the very depths of Hell. ARCHGOAT’s music has always had an obvious Death Metal edge which has remained channeling the Darkest essence. It’s interesting, by the way, that some rhythms and themes remind me of certain purist things of AUTOPSY but I don’t think it’s an intentional thing. It’s hard to pick out standout tracks since they are all great. At last an album that includes not just one or two extremely strong tunes and 7-8 weaker ones but the standard here is very strong starting from „The 3rd Invocation” intro to the closing „The Dawn of the Antichrist”.
To me „The Light-Devouring Darkness” is one of the greatest records of the year without question. And the band is, together with INQUISITION, a significant defender of Satanic Black Metal.
