A montreáli zenekar már 1997-ben létezett, de igazából csak 2001-2002-től lehet számolni megalakulásról. A folyamatos tagcseréket követően 2004-ben sikerült kiadniuk az első lemezüket „Concealed” néven egy kisebb kiadónál. Ezt sajnos nem hallottam, de gyanítom stílusban nagyon nem térhet el a mostani lemeztől, csak gondolom nem voltak még annyira kiforrottak a dalok. Egyébként a két album megjelenése között is voltak tagcserék.
Akik jelen voltak a „Fragmentary Evidence” album felvételein: Patrick Loisel – gitár / vokál, Matthieu Marcotte – gitár, Dominic „forest” LaPointe – basszusgitár, Antoine Baril – dob. Az album keverését a Kataklysmből ismert J-F Dagenais végezte a JFD studio-ban.
A „Fragmentary Evidence” hangzása, mint ahogy azt jól megszokhattuk a Nuclear Blast-os kiadványoknál, nagyon vaskos, izmos. Dübörög, zeng, a brutál részeknél teljesen letaglózza a hallgatót, a progresszívebb részeknél tisztán kivehetjük a gitárszólókat, csengéseket. Ezekből a sorokból kiderül, hogy rengeteg minden történik egy-egy dalban. Van olyan rész, ahol egy brutál death metal zenéhez hasonlít pl. Kataklysm, Cryptopy, de a dallamosabb, technikásabb, vagy progresszívebb részeknél a Cynic, Death, Voivod neve ugrik be.
Patrick hangja kifejezetten tetszik, nagyon brutális és pusztító erejű. Öblös, mély hörgés, de vannak azért lágyabb pillanatai is, de nincs túl sok nyálas rész : -) A gitárok szintén dicséretre méltók, iszonyat sok tekerést, technikázást hallhatunk. Viszont ha ez kevés lenne, elárulok még valamit a zenével kapcsolatban. A számok még izgalmasabbá tételéhez – ami a zenei tudásukat is mutatja – jazz elemeket is építettek a dalokba, nem is akárhogyan… Egy-két lassabb résznél ez egész kellemes nyugtató érzést vált ki.
A lemez összképe nagyon jó, mert nincsenek túlzottan gyenge pillanatok és változatos is, ezért számomra az album minden téren kiemelkedő, és értékes albumnak bizonyult.

The band from Montreal had already existed in 1997, but we can only count their real estabilishing date 2001-2002. After constant member changes, they managed to publish their first album in 2004 by a smaller label. Unfortunately, I didn’t hear it, but I suspect it can’t be very different from their current style, maybe the songs weren’t that well-estabilished. Howewer, even between the publication of the two albums, there were member changes. Those who where present on the recording of the „Fragmentary Evidence” album: Patrick Loisel – guitar/vocals, Matthieu Marcotte – guitar, Dominic „Forest” LaPointe – bass guitar, Antoine Baril – drums. J-F Dagenais mixed the album in the JFD studio, who is known from Kataklysm.
The sound of „Fragmentary Evidence”, as it is usual considering the publications of Nuclear Blast, is very thick and massive. It lumbers, clangs; you get totally crushed at the brutal parts; at the progressive-like sections, we can clearly hear out the guitar solos, the clangours. You can figure out from these lines that a lot of things happen in each song. There are sections which can remember us a brutal death metal music, like Kataklysm and Cryptopy, but at melodic, technical or progressive parts, bands like Cynic, Death or Voivod can leaps to our mind.
I really like Patrick’s voice, it is very brutal and destroyingly powerful. It’s a tubby, deep growl; it also has some softer moments, but there aren’t too much soapy sections. 🙂 The guitars are also praiseworthy, we can hear awfully a lot of wiggling. And if it’s still not enough, I can tell you something more about this music. To make the songs even more exciting, they put some jazz elements into the songs (this also proves their musical knowledge), and in how a beautiful way… At one or two slower parts, it can relieve us quite comfortably.
As an overall view, the disc is very good, because we can’t notice too weak moments, and it’s diversified as well. So this album turned out to be precious, and excellent in all points of view.
