A 37 perces anyag címe már elárulja, mit rejt, valójában a Soulseller által korábban már megjelentetett két anyag kombinációjáról van itt szó, de talán nem mindenki gyűjtötte be annak idején ezeket. Sőt, a Satanic Zeitgesit csak bakelit verzióban jött ki a 2009-es évben.
S hogy mit kell/illik tudni a finn BLACK CRUCIFIXION gárdájáról? Azt hogy a Black Metal mezőny második generációjának igazán minőségi képviselői voltak (és még ma is léteznek, noha némiképpen más zenei közegben mozognak). És ezt nem csupán azért lehet elmondani, mert a BEHERIT-es Sadomatic Slaughter dobolt az anyagon, illetve az intro és outro Holocausto tollából származik. Itt bizony jóval többről van szó. A Fallen One of Flames demo írásakor a zenekar az északi sarkkör mentén élt, és az ottani hideg sötétség rendkívüli mértékben meg is jelent a dalokban. Ennek ellenére nem voltak tipikus északi Black Metal banda, ehhez elég például a Flowing Downwards (szerintem legjobb) dalukat meghallgatni, ami a maga baljóslatú középtempójával inkább a görög mezőnyre emlékeztet némiképpen. A jellegzetes suttogó vokál is egy sajátos jellemzőjük volt, és az egész tényleg egyedi és rendkívül sötét volt. A demo mindhárom ‘valódi’ dala klasszikus számomra, nem hiányozhat egyetlen Black Metal rajongó gyűjteményéből sem!
A Satanic Zeitgeist anyagát eddig nem hallottam, és meg is lepődtem kissé, hogy ennek az 1991 augusztusi koncertnek korához képest milyen jó a hangminősége. Bőséggel kivehető minden a felvételen, ahol egy intrót követően a zenekar névadó nótáját hallhatjuk, amelyben még extrém sikolyokkal is sokkolnak (azt a megoldást a többi nótában is alkalmazzák egyébként). Ezt követi a VENOM In League with Satan dalának egy hörgéssel előadott, nem éppen kiemelkedő, de hallgatható feldogozása. Ezután a Satanic Zeitgeist dal csendül fel, amely egy fűrészelő gitártémával nyit, majd gyors Black/Death káosszá torzul, kíváncsi lennék, stúdióban milyen dalt hoztak volna ki belőle, mert nem rossz nóta. Majd ismét egy feldogozást kapunk, a brazil SARCÓFAGO klasszikus Nightmare szerzeményét. Ez teljesen rendben is van, az acsarkodó hörgéssel elővezetett jellegzetes témák kellemes perceket szereztek, jól megidézve a brazil kommandó kaotikus világát. Majd egy rövid outro-féleséggel (némi gitárzaj) vége is a felvételnek.
Nyilván a kiadvány tényleg azoknak lesz hiánypótló, akik valamelyik, vagy netán mindkét anyagot kihagyták, de a minőségét tekintve tényleg nem lehet panasz erre a klasszikus anyagra.

The title of the 37-minute long material already reveals what it hides: in fact this is a combination of two materials that had been put out earlier by Soulseller but there may be people who missed those back then. Especially, that Satanic Zeitgeist was only released on vinyl.
And what should one know about BLACK CRUCIFIXION? Well, they were a truly excellent act of the second generation of Black Metal (and they still exist in fact though on a bit different musical field). And this fact cannot only be said due to the fact that they had Sadomatic Slaughter as their drummer, and also Holocausto did the intro/outro for the demo. There’s more to that. When they composed The Fallen One of Flames, they lived beside the arctic circle and that cold darkness found its way on their music significantly. In spite of this, they weren’t a typical Northern Black Metal band, to check this it is enough to listen to their song (I think their best tune) Flowing Downwards, which, with its sinister midtempo, rather reminds me of the Greek BM line a bit. Also, the whispering vocals were also one of their trademarks, and the whole thing was really dark and unique. All three ‘real’ songs of the demo are classic for me, they should not miss from any Black Metal collection.
I haven’t heard the material of Satanic Zeitgeist prior to this, and I was quite surprised to notice that this recording from August 1991 has such a relatively good sound. Everything can be heard easily, and after an intro they open with the song Black Crucifixion where they even shock us with extreme screams (this is also applied in other tracks). This is followed by an okay but not outstanding cover of VENOM’s In League with Satan which is performed with death grunts. The next track is Satanic Zeitgeist opening with a sawing theme which turns into fast Black/Death chaos, I’m curious what result could have been reached if this had been recorded in a studio because the song is good. Then we again get a cover tune in the shape of the SARCÓFAGO classic Nightmare. It is perfectly okay, the classic riffs with the grunts gave me enjoyable moments, summoning the chaotic world of the Brazilian commando. Then the recording is over with a short outro-like stuff (some guitar noise).
Obviously, as said, the release will be good for those who missed one of these stuffs (or maybe both) but as far as quality goes we cannot complain about this indeed classic material.
