A Nuclear Blast egy újabb reményteljes bandával rukkolt elő, a kanadai Blackguard-al. A csapatnak ez az első kiadványa, de korábban már jelent meg egy négyszámos demójuk és néhány jelentősebb fesztiválon is részt vettek.
Március 20-án látott napvilágot a Profugus Mortis. Stílusa leginkább az epikus folk metalhoz tehető. A zene hallgatása közben sok banda neve beugrik (Ensiferum, Moonsorrow, Catamenia, Behemoth), de nem nevezhető másolásnak. Ezek a nagyon gazdagon díszített és rengeteg folkal rendelkező számok valamiért nem hagynak mély nyomot az emberben. Valamiért unalomba fullad egy idő után, és nem tudom olyannyira megszeretni, mint az előbb említett bandákat.
Talán az egyik ilyen hiba az egysíkú, kicsit Children Of Bodomos ének. A folyamatos, elnyújtott rekedtes károgás nekem nem fekszik ebben a zenében. Viszont vannak jó riffek és izgalmas billentyűtémák, amire felkaphatjuk a fejünket. Tetszenek a helyenként előtérbe kerülő gitárszólók, vagy a nem túl újdonságnak számító tangóharmonikás részek.
Az tény, hogy manapság rengeteg hasonló lemez jelenik meg, és így már nem tűnik annyira kimagaslónak egy ilyen album, de majd meglátjuk, hogy idővel mennyire lesz sikeres ez a lemez. Most ez egy erős középkategóriás anyagnak mondanám. Mindenesetre, aki szereti az epikus, folkos metalt az mindenképpen hallgassa meg, mert tudnak ezek a fiúk zenélni! 🙂

Nuclear Blast has yet an other promising band, this time they released the first album of the canadian Blackguard. This is the first official release of the band, although they previously had a 4 track demo and they played at some major festivals.
Profugus Mortis was released on 20th March. The style is epic folk metal. A lot of band came in my mind (Ensiferum, Moonsorrow, Catamenia, Behemoth) when I listened to the album, but this is not a copy band. Although the songs are well written and full of folk music and musical decorations, it just doesn’t catch your attention. Somehow it turns really dull after a while, so I just can’t love them as much as I love the aforementioned bands.
Maybe one of the downsides is the plain, slightly Children Of Bodom-like vocals. This endless hoarse vocal is too much for me in this kind of music. But there are great riffs and exciting keyboards themes, what are really catchy. I like the guitar solos and the now not-so-new accordion parts too.
The point is that now there’s a flood of this kind of albums, so this album doesn’t seem to be unique, but we will see how far the band will get. At this point this is an average, right int he middle of the pack album. Anyway those who like epic or folk metal should listen to the album because after all, this band can play.
