A Brainstorm név nem ismeretlen a honi metalosok előtt. Sőt a németek vezető power metal bandája kis hazánkban hihetetlen népszerűségnek örvend. Volt olyan év, hogy többször is meglátogatták Magyarországot és a hűséges rajongók jutalma nem is maradt el, hisz a 2007-ben kiadott DVD-jükön a budapesti koncert (15 nótával) is terítékre került. Természetesen nem csak emiatt szeretjük annyira a Barinstorm-ot hanem kiváló lemezeik miatt is. Én személy szerint (az azóta is kedvenc lemezem) a „Metus Mortis” kapcsán kattantam rá a zenekarra és azóta is folyamatosan követem ténykedésüket. Számomra a zenekar fő vonzerejét Andy B. Franck énekes adja, kinek hangja az egyik legjobbak között van. Persze a dalok minősége is meg kell üssön egy szintet ahhoz, hogy ez a hang maximálisan ki tudjon bontakozni. Azonban ezzel sincs probléma, ugyanis gyenge lemez még egyszer sem került ki a Brainstorm műhelyéből. A csapat nagyon aktívnak tűnik mostanság, hisz alig kellett több mint egy évet várni a „Downburst” folytatására a „Memorial Roots”-ra. A mostani koronggal ellentétben a tavalyin a dalok többsége gyors tempóból épült fel és maga az egész lemez is egy hatalmas energiaként robban. Azért kerültek rá lassabb dalok is, de nem ez volt a fő csapásvonal.
Most viszont egyértelműen látszik (annak ellenére, hogy vannak gyorsabb dalok), hogy itt a monumentálisabb, lassabban hömpölygő dalokon lesz a hangsúly. Erre utalnak a most hosszabban elnyújtott dalok is, hisz három is akad, mely átlépi a 6 perces kategóriát. Visszatértek a háttérben megbúvó billentyűs hangok is persze szigorúan csak színesítés jelleggel. Mindezekkel összhangban a kiválóra sikerült „Soul Temptation” lemez is fel-felvillant előttem. Ha azonban őszinte akarok lenni, mégsem adta meg magát könnyen ez a lemez. Az elején nem is tetszett a sok lassabb tempó miatt, de aztán olyan szinten eltalált a hangulata, hogy azóta sem szabadulok tőle. Már a kezdő „Forsake What I Believed” is egy terjedelmesebb darab, a nyugodtabb részeket ólomsúlyú power riffek váltják Andy remek dallamaival. Már itt meg kell említsem Torsten Ihlenfeld és Milan Loncaric gitárosok játékát, mely a legjobbak között van. Hihetetlen érzékkel nyúlnak minden egyes hanghoz. A „Shiver” aztán már gyorsít a tempón, ez egy kicsit lazább hangulatú dal.
A következő „The Conjuction of 7 Planets”-ban ismét visszatér a magasztosabb jelleg, de ez még jobbra sikerült, mint a kezdő nóta. Hangulatilag talán ez az egyik legösszetettebb tétel a „The Final Stages of Decay” című szintén zseniális alkotással együtt. Kedvenc dalom még az ötödikként felcsendülő ultradallamos „Nailed Down Dreams”, mely a lemez egészét nézve (már csak a refrénje miatt is) az egyik csúcspontnak számít. A gyorsabb dalok közül is akad kedvencem ilyen az „Ahimsa”, szikár riffjeivel lendületes felépítésével tuti koncertfavorit lesz. Erre a sorsa fog jutni a kitörölhetetlen refrénű „When No One Cares” és a korongot záró horzsolós „Would You” is. Egyszerűen nem lehet belekötni „Memorial Roots”-ba. Az ezelőtti lemezük borítójával ellentétbe itt egy nagyon hangulatos érdekes világú frontképet kapunk.
Fanatikusoknak egyszerűen kihagyhatatlan az új „Brainstorm” mű, mely egy tökéletes igényességgel megírt számos fantasztikus dalt tartalmazó kiadvány. A Barinstorm erősebb, mint valaha, a többieknek fel van adva a lecke.

The name of German Brainstorm isn’t unknown for Hungarian metal fans. Moreover, the German’s leading power metal band has an incredible popularity here. There were years, when they visited our country more times, and the reward of faithful fans was not missing either since on their 2007 DVD also the Budapest gig (with 15 tracks) also appeared. Of course, we do not like the band only for this but for their excellent records. I, personally, got into the band with Metus Mortis album (this is still my fave record by them), and I’ve been following their activity ever since. To me, the main charm of the band is vocalist Andy B. Franck whose voice is among the best ones. Of course the standard of tracks should also reach a certain level so as this voice could fully unfold. However, there’s no problem with that either, since they never did a weak record. The band seems very active these days since we have to wait just one year for Memorial Roots, the continuation of Downburst. Unlike this album, the previous one had fast-paced songs, and the whole record exploded like a bomb. There were some slower tunes, but it wasn’t the main line.
But now it seems obvious (despite that there are faster songs) that the emphasis is on more monumental, slowly flowing songs. The now prolonged tracks also refer to this, since there are three of them that is beyond the 6 minute-long playing time. The background keyboards have also returned, but of course only for colouring. In accordance with all this, the excellent Soul Temptation album also comes to mind. However, to be honest, it wasn”t that easy. At first, I didn’t like that much due to the slower tempos, but later I got into it so much that I cannot escape it since then. Already the opener Forsake What I Believed is a longer one, the calmer parts are alternated by lead-weighed power riffs with Andy excellent melodies. I have to mention already here the play of guitarists Torsten Ihlenfield and Milan Lonaric which are among the best ones. They have an incredible sense for each track. Then Shiver is faster, it’s a song with a lighter mood.
In the next piece, The Conjuration of 7 Planets the majestic style, but it turned out to be even better than the opener. Mood-wise, it’s maybe the more complex tune, together with the also ingenious The Final Stages of Decay. My other favourite is Nailed Down Dreams which, considering the entire record (even due to its refrain), can be considered as the peak of the album. I also have fave songs among the faster ones like Ahisma, which will be a favourite at gigs with its solid riffs and dynamic structure. The same fate can be foretold When No One Cares with an ultra-catchy chorus and the closing Would You. I cannot find any negative aspects to Memorial Roots. Unlike the previous album, it has a very atmospheric, interesting cover picture.
For fanatics, it’s a mandatory stuff which is again a well-written material including several fantastic tunes. Brainstorm are stronger than ever, so others should watch their backs.
