A Brutal Truth a kilencvenes évek elején az Ill Neglect dalukkal eléggé közismertté vált az underground életben. Éveken keresztül apróra zúztak mindent gyilkos zenéjükkel. Nyilván a korai Napalm Death is nagy hatással volt rájuk, de egy kicsit más irányba ment el a zenekar és idővel egy sajátos ízt alakítottak ki. Sokak kedvencévé váltak, majd később sajnos feloszlottak, de szerencsére most 2009-ben újra együtt zúzhatunk a zenéjükre.
Személyes véleményként még annyit írnék le, hogy mindig nagy rajongója voltam a csapatnak, de mégsem tartottam őket a grindcore mestereiként számon, mert nem minden daluk ütött kellőképpen. Ettől függetlenül remek csemege a Brutal Truth.
Bár 10 évet hagyott ki a zenekar, mégsem tűnik olyan nagy időnek, mert a mai napig előveszi az ember az Ill Neglect, Extreme Conditions Demand… vagy a Need To Controle albumukat. Tulajdonképpen nagy változás nem történt a zenében, húsz ultragyors dalt hallhatunk, melyekbe semmiféle „nyálas” dolgot nem tettek szerencsére. A régi lemezeknél a hangzást nem nevezném a legjobbnak, de ennél az albumnál azt is dicséret illeti. Erősek izmosak a dalok, nem folyik össze masszaként a végtelen őrlés és cséplés. Kevin Sharp, Dan Lilker erős, durva hangon őrjöng, Rick Haok püföli a bőröket maximálisan, Burke pedig csavargatja a gitárt. Persze van 1-2 gitárnyavalygás, lassulás, de azért ez igazi grindcore, a káosz megtestesítője.
Nem nevezném nagyon erős albumnak, az eddigi utolsó kiadványuktól jobb, de nincs olyan, mint a korai lemezek, viszont jobb a hangzás s emiatt jobban élvezhető. Szerintem ez egy megfelelő visszatérés a grinderektől 2009-ben. Mindenkinek csak ajánlani tudom ezt a lemezt.

ENGLISH VERSION:
Brutal Truth, in the early ’90s, became quite well-known in the underground with Ill Neglect. They were crushing everything to pieces with their music for years. Obviously, early Napalm Death had also a deep impact on them but they went on a different direction, and, after a time, they managed to create an own taste. They became a favourite band for a lot of people and then, unfortunately, split up but it’s great we can bang our heads to Brutal Truth again in 2009.
As a personal note, I’d also add that I’ve always been a big fan of the band but never considered them as the masters of grindcore since nota l their songs are equally killer. Nevertheless, Brutal Truth is an excellent band.
Although there was a 10 year-long hiatus it does not seem that much since one tends to take Ill Neglect, Extreme Conditions Demand… or Need To control albums from time to time. Actually, there haven’t been drastic changes in the music, there are 20 ultrafast tracks here without any syrupy things. The sound on the older albums wasn’t the best but with this new record I cannot complain about that. The songs are strong and they do not form a mess in the endless grinding. Kevin Sharp, Dan Lilker rages with a strong, raw voice, while Rick Haok beats the skins with maximum power and Burke twists the guitar. Of course, there are some guitar screams, slower themes but it’s real grindcore, the embodiment of chaos.
I wouldn’t call the album a very strong one, it’s better than the last record before their split up but it’s not that great as the early albums. Nevertheless, the sound is better and it makes the stuff more enjoyable. I think it’s an appropriate comeback of the grinders in 2009. I can only recommend the album.
