Tíz év hallgatás után jelentkezik ismét lemezzel az olasz Dominance. Pályájuk még valahol a kilencvenes évek elején kezdődött, de aztán az 1999-ben kiadott első „Anthems of Ancient Splendour” korongjuk után eltűntek a színtérről. Így nem lepődtem meg, hogy eleddig nem hallottam a zenekarról semmit sem. Persze ez nem akadályozott abban, hogy érdeklődve forgassam meg a játszómban a most megjelent második „Echoes of Human Decay” című lemezüket.
A muzsikát tekintve a technikásabb death metal irányba sorolható, olyan zenekarok nyomdokain, mint mondjuk a Cannibal Corpse vagy Malevolent Creation. Azzal gondolom, nem árulok el újdonságot, hogy a korongon található tíz dalt meghallgatva nem lehet nagy megfejtésekre számítani. Az viszont elmondható, hogy a fiúk tisztességesen helytálnak, és amit a stílushoz kell, azt el is játsszák.
Megy az aprítás mindenhol, tördelt ritmusok, itt-ott egy-egy megtekert gitárkiállás, mélyre hangolt öblös hörgés. A korongon végigvezetett brutalizálást enyhíti a néha előforduló dallamosabb szólók. Ilyen található például a „Gilgamesh” című dalban is, de persze mindegyik nótát színesítik ilyen témák, csak talán itt a legfeltűnőbb. Természetesen a thrash metal-os megoldások sem hiányozhatnak, melyeknek legnagyobb tér talán a „The Siege”-ben és a „The Sailor”-ben jut, de mindenhol ott bujkál, és kellő agresszivitással ruházza fel, az amúgy is sodró lendületű nótákat. Sőt még black metal-ra hajazó témák is felütik a fejüket a „Duellists” című szerzeményben.
A tempókat tekintve nem nagyon van kegyelem, a dalok túlnyomó hányada gyors részekből épül fel. A nóták többsége, ezáltal kellemes hallgatnivaló csak éppen nem kiemelkedő, pedig jól összerakott, tételek sorjáznak egymásután. A tempóváltásokat is jól oldják meg, hogy még véletlenül se legyen unalmas a végeredmény, de mégis hiányzik belőlük az a plusz többlet, amitől az ember tényleg hanyatt vágódna. Ezáltal egy olyan korongot kapunk, ami sajnos még nem elég ahhoz, hogy a legfelsőbb ligában labdába rúgjon. Viszont az is elmondható, hogy nem egy fércmunkáról van szó.
Nem tudom ez a mostani fellángolás meddig tart majd a Domimance-nél, de ha lesz következő album, és jobban odafigyelnek, több kiemelkedőbb momentummal rakják azt tele, nem lesz probléma. Így számomra egy kellemes háromnegyed órát okoztak, de ennél sajnos nem többet.

After ten years of silence, the Italian band, Dominance came out with a new disc. Their career started in the beginning of the ’90s, but after they published their first album in 1999, „Anthems of Ancient Splendour”, they disappeared from the spotlight. So I weren’t surprised, that so far I couldn’t hear about thie band anything. But of course it didn’t prevent me to put their newly published second album, „Echoes of Human Decay”, into the player and listening to it with taking interest in it.
As for the music, it can be cathegorized as death metal. It’s technically skilled, like for example Cannibal Corpse or Malevolent Creation. I think it’s not a surprise that by listening to the ten songs on the disk, we can’t expect for the greatest solutions. But we can say that the boys did a fair job, they play what it’s important for this style.
Chopping occurs everywhere, there are staccatos, wiggled protusions, deeply pitched tubby growls. The brutality which is led through the album is relieved by some melodic solos. In „Gilgamesh”, we can find a section like this. Of course all songs are enriched with such themes, but probably it’s the most prominent there. Of course thrash metal-like parts also can’t be missed, we can notice it the most clearly in „The Siege” and „The Sailor”, but it lies hiddenly everywhere, and endows all the songs with a fair agressivity, which carry though a sweeping impluse anyway. Moreover, themes which remember us to black metal, are also emerge in „Duellists”.
As for the tempo, there’s no mercy, the vast majority of the songs are build of fast sections. Thus, the most of the songs are worthy to be listened, but it can’t be said that they’re excellent, though well constructed themes follow each other. Tempo shifts are also well solved, avoiding the songs from becoming boring, but still, that plus something is missing from the songs which would crush us. So we have a disc which is not good enough to enter the highest league. But we can also say that it’s not a sloppy work.
I don’t know if this sudden emergence lasts only for one album for Dominance, but if there will be a next album, and they pay more attention to it, and they put some more prominent moments into the songs, there won’t be a problem. Thus, they gave me a pleasant three quarters of an hour, but unfortunately, nothing more.
