A következő két dal korábbi verziója a demón is szerepelt, előbbi In Glory We Bathe címen fut.

ENGLISH VERSION:

Elanor is one of the promising folk(ish) metal bands in Hungary; I’ve already met them on many folk metal gigs. They were born around the end of 2009 under the name Corvina and their goal was to create epic metal with historical and folkish topics. Their line-up became stable during early 2010 and they changed their name to Elanor, which is a kind of direction to the Celtic related topics. In 2011 they recorded a demo, then after other line-up changes (today there’re only two founders in the band: Márk Wencler bandleader-guitarist, former vocalist and Gábor Bálint keyboardist) they released an EP this year entitled Ad Victoriam.

The minidisc starts with the eponymous intro, an instrumental symphonic track with elevated atmosphere. Chariots of Fire has mythological topic and this epic song uses great female vocals, but the drums sound very dull and they have to develop the growls/screams, too. On the other hand, the symphonic elements are very pleasant. The early versions of next two songs were included on the demo: the first piece is called In Glory We Bathe. It has really strong guitar themes, its melody’s catchy and the drums aren’t as annoying as in the previous one. The next older song is Vercingetorix; it was changed in many aspects: now female vocals play important role in this Celtic war-song and it’s absolutely good. Maybe this one is the strongest piece on the EP, but it might need longer lyrics. The acoustic guitar intro and the riffs of Kingdom in Heart are strong again, the keyboard play is perfect, but I have ground of complaint to the growls and the drums (especially the faster parts) again. Forefathers is an older track, too, you should pay attention to the epic synths solo, but here the growls are powerful, too. The short, barely half an hour long album is ended by The Brave Ones which has great female vocals again: this voice is powerful enough both to sing alone and in duet with the growls. The keyboards and the symphonic arrangement at the end are also very strong.

The sound quality is still weak, the studio-work wasn’t professional; it’s annoying especially with the drums. Besides this, they should also improve the growling technique. On the other hand I should bring out the good guitar themes, the pleasant keyboard plays, the beautiful female vocals and the epic background choirs and also the aesthetic cover artwork. Besides these, they should vary from the standard song structures a bit and add some more diversity and perhaps some folk instruments. The main concept is very good, in Hungary there’s lack of this kind of epic/folk metal bands, so I hope they can afford to record their first full-length album in a professional studio soon. Up to that, I can recommend their live shows, because those are their main strength!
