Németország elsőszámú epikus és folk metal hordája, a bajor Equilibrium sosem arról volt híres, hogy gyártósoron ontották az új korongokat. 2001 óta még csak a harmadik lemeznél járnak (plusz egy bivalyerős kiadósabb demónál), legutóbbi nagylemezük, a magukhoz képest gyengébbre sikeredett Rekreatur három éve jelent meg.
Nagyon úgy tűnik, hogy 2014 előtt nem is kapunk újabb LP-t, így a pogányok ötösfogata egy speciális kiadvánnyal próbálja kiengesztelni rajongótáborát: augusztus 9-én, az eredetileg tervezettnél egy héttel korábban jelenik meg a banda első EP-je, a Waldschrein!
A lemez elég exkluzív, hiszen csak egy új, jövendőbeli nagylemezes dalt tartalmaz, a címadó Waldschreint („Erdei szentély”), melynek bombasztikus refrénje igencsak meglepett: a vokálok két sávon futnak, egyik Robse hagyományos, karcos hörgésével, míg a másik nagy meglepetésre tiszta férfi énekkel! Az egész dal zseniálisan jó egyébként, az emelkedett és a folkos vonal is nagyon erős benne, szokás szerint úgy, hogy nem megy a zúzás rovására sem. A következő tétel a Der Sturm („A vihar”) újabb verziója. E dal a banda egyik legrégibb szerzeménye, még a 2005-ös Turis Fratyron szerepelt, de mivel az évek folyamán sokat rajta és új torok csatlakozott a bandához, így úgy látták, itt az ideje újrarögzíteni. A Zwergenhammer („Törpkalapács”) régi, mégis új. Szintén a legkorábbi szerzemények egyike, de korábban sosem rögzítették. Így egy lemezen hallható a mai és az egykori Equilibrium – nem feltűnő a kontraszt, hisz ami jó, azon minek változtatni? A Himmelsrand („Égszegély”) pedig nem más, mint a népszerű fantasy PC játék, a Skyrim főcímdalának feldolgozása: az epikus témadal feldolgozása egyszerűen adta magát, annyira illik a bandához! (A nagylemez bónuszaként majd jöhet egy Trónok harca cover is! :D) És ha ez nem lenne elég, zárásként pedig ott van a címadó dal instrumentális, akusztikus változata is, mely akár egy filmeposz zenéje is lehetne. És a hab a tortán a gyönyörű borító – úgy érzem, egy Waldschrein-pólót kénytelen leszek beszerezni…
Fantasztikus az új dal, nagyszerűek az újragondolt régi dalok és az áthangszerelések is. Ezután csak még jobban epekedhetünk a negyedik album után, mely a Waldschrein alapján még erősebb lesz, mint közvetlen elődje!

Germany’s no.1 epic and folk metal horde, the Bavarian Equilibrium was never known as a band which publishes new albums yearly. Started in 2001 and having only three full-length albums (and a very powerful longer demo) their last album, the relatively weaker Rekreatur was released three years ago.
And there’s almost no chance that we’ll get a new longplayer before 2014 so the heathen quintet tries to compensate for this with a special release: on August 9th, one week before the originally planned release date they’re going to unleash their very first EP, Waldschrein!
It’s a really exclusive material because it contains only one song from the future LP, the eponymous Waldschrein (“Forest Shrine”) whose bombastic chorus made me pretty surprised: the vocals go on two tracks, one with the usual hard growls of Robse and one with clean male vocals! By the way the complete song is awesome; as always it has very strong elevated and folk parts without weakening the smash. The second piece is the new version of Der Sturm (“The Storm”). It’s one of the band’s oldest tracks, already released on Turis Fratyr in 2005 but during the years they changed many parts and a new vocalist joined so they thought they should re-record it. Zwergenhammer (“Dwarves’ Hammer”) is an old and new song at the same time. Also one of the oldest pieces but it was never recorded before. So you can hear the early and modern Equilibrium on the same material – the difference is not markable because if something’s good, why should we change is? Himmelsrand – as its title shows – is the cover of the main theme song of the popular fantasy PC game, Skyrim: it’s so epic that it obviously fits the band! (As a bonus track of the upcoming album I wish a Game Of Thrones cover! :D) And if this isn’t enough, the “outro” is the instrumental, acoustic version of the title-track – it can be even the theme song of a gigantic historical movie. And the bonus is the beautiful cover artwork – I think I have to acquire a Waldschrein t-shirt…
The new song is fantastic and the revised old tracks and re-arranged ones are also great. Now I desire the fourth longplayer even more – after hearing Waldschrein I guess it’ll be even stronger than its direct predecessor!
