Természetesen a szépséges nevű finnektől is nívós pakkot kaptunk. Tökéletesen hozzáértő kezek, érett termés, igényes csomagolás, 2009-es évjárat – minden más egyéni szájíz szerint.

Jómagam általában kedvelem az efféle ajánlólevéllel kecsegtető formációkat, a bánatos legénység azonban sohasem tudott igazán bizalmamba férkőzni, noha valami megfogalmazhatatlan dolog mindig is szimpátiát ébresztett bennem a srácokat illetően, így több ízben is kísérleteztem velük egy bensőségesebb kapcsolat reményében. A Sötét Vizek Gyermekei-ben megbízható hallgatnivalóra leltem.

A tényleges felfrissülés pont ezekben a ragadós melódiákban gyökeredzik.

A billentyűk szerepe a továbbiakban is meghatározó. Ezt az állítást támasztja alá a Baptized By The Blood Of Angels COB imitátor szintiszőnyege is. Hogy konkrét nótát is említsek, a norvégok The Insight And The Catharsis c. opusza volt az áldozat. Aki veszi a fáradtságot és belehallgat a két szerzemény nyitó szintizésébe, rögtön megérti, mi a nyűgöm ezzel. Csúnya. A Sea Of Whispers a Tears…-hez hasonlóan a lágyabb vonalat képviseli, ellenben nem rossz elgondolás efféle taktikával fenntartani a figyelmet. A maradék hervadó dalcsokor tulajdonképpen az említett szisztéma alapján rángatja előttünk a kezünkbe adott fonalat. Egyedül a Diary Of Demonic Dreams különcködik, itt a tiszta ének már-már heavy-s sikongatásokba torkollik.

Ahogyan a bevezetőben utaltam rá, csupán ízlés kérdése, ki hogyan értékeli. Számomra opcionális hallgatnivaló.

ENGLISH VERSION:

Every time I get to put my hands on a record by a Scandinavian band, I feel a strange sense of safety. We can conclude without doubt that most of the stuff coming from this region offers the target audience with a guaranteed quality. It’s no wonder that we get a top-grade pack from the Finnish band with a beautyful name. Perfectly able hands, mature product, fitting packaging, release date of 2009- everything else is a matter of taste.

I tend to like bands with this sort of recommendation, but this crew of sorrow could never get close to my heart. However, I always had the lurking feeling of sympathy towards them, so I gave their music multiple chances to develop some sort of intimate relationship with me. „Children of Dark Waters” has proven to be a solid record.

The album is a rather mature production, even more; I would call it the peak of the guys” career, though I might be subjective. However, the band managed to compose exciting and pleasant tunes in their trademark ‘symphonic death-metal, filled with gothic influences’ style. These sticky melodies make the record something fresh. I still miss Altti Veteläinen’s ‘chaotic’ rasping, but the most important aspect of this release is the vocal performance of Jarmo Kylmänen , whose melodic themes are catchy, even for the first listening. I don’t even have to mention that everything on the record is accurate, precise – you can almost see the golden rays of talent glittering on the members’ faces drowned in tears of eternal sorrow.

I could compare the record to a dark forest where you can hardly see anything. You bump into hidden values every now and then, so it’s not a one-shot album. On the other hand, it’s apparent that the faults also tend to stick out more after listening to the record several times. These faults are mostly segments borrowed from other bands, confronting us with the observation of the band not being quite as original as it – rather skilfully – camouflages itself to be. The first character that emerges from this fog-covered landscape is Angelheart, Ravenheart , with its pleasant symphonic theme, that easily makes our angel-hearts (or raven-hearts, as the case might be) beat faster. It’s a rather strong start. The role of the keyboards is still dominant. This notion is further fortified by Baptized by the Blood of Angels’ layer of keys, imitating Children of Bodom. Number three, Tears of Autumn Rain is a typical, gloomy but listener-friendly track, no wonder that this has been chosen to promote the record as a single, and I would not be surprised if they honoured it with a video. However, I stand completely thrilled in front of the blatant Dimmu Borgir copy entitled Summon the Wild. This is a rip-off, there’s nothing to add. To mention the source more exactly, the victim was the opus titled The Insight and the Catharsis. Whoever takes the trouble to listen into the opening synth of both songs will get my point at once. It’s nasty. Sea of Whispers is similar to Tears… as it is also one of the softer songs, though keeping up the listener’s attention with altering the mood like this is not a bad strategy. The remaining pieces of the withering bouquet of songs pull the sting keeping exactly the same formula. The only different effort is Diary of Demonic Dreams, where the clean vocals turn into something like heavy-metal screaming. Precautions are advised about that one, it’s most certainly not for everyone.

The sound is stark, and cold; a perfect fit for the angry songs. It won’t tear your head off, but it adds to the mood. The booklet looks fine; it’s been a while since I’ve last seen such a unique, fitting cover. The artist deserves compliments, and the band members owe him at least a (rack of) beer for his accomplishment.

This record is not bad at all. Regarding the ‘borrowed’ segments, the offender seems to be Janne Tolsa, the keyboard player, who seems to handle his instrument fine, making it difficult to understand his lack of ideas. With more original tunes he could have added much to the record, but running into this kind of copying is a rather stupid mistake. In spite of all this, I have to bow before EToS, as they have produced this quality stuff. They didn’t become favourites, but they proved their professional attitude. The record might not be the ideal choice in the current heat of 40 degrees Celsius, it’s still worthy to give it a couple of spins, paying attention to it. As I have already mentioned, it’s really a matter of taste from that point on. For me, it seems not a necessary, but an optional listen.
