A Heid egy fiatal spanyol zenekar Madridból és mint nevük is sejteti, eredetileg a nordikus, skandináv pogány metal vonalról indultak. A koncepció azonban megváltozott időközben és a sokak, köztük hispán bandák által is rongyosra járatott viking témák helyett saját történelmük és mondaviláguk felé fordult figyelmük.
Egy demó után, megújult felállással házi stúdiójukban készítette el a hatosfogat a debütáló kislemezt, a Voces de la Tierra Dormida („A szunnyadó föld hangjai”) EP-t. A félórás korongon különálló intró és outró nincs, cserébe kapunk öt súlyos pogány death metalos tételt spanyol nyelvű, a kasztíliai és keltibér történelem és mondavilág által ihletett dalszöveggel. A zene, a riffelés, a hörgés megőrizte a klasszikus, a norvég black metalra és a svéd viking death metalra jellemző jegyeket, azonban az egésznek kellemes népies ívet ad a spanyol népi furulyák, dudák, hegedű és doromb használata. Az erőszakos keresztény térítésről szóló, nyitó No Habrá Paz („Nem lesz béke”) hegedűs átvezetőjében például a Llvme, egy kitűnő leóni kelta/folk doom metal zenekar hatása érződik, míg a gitárszóló némi orientális ízt csempész a sötét dalba. Tempóváltásokból sincs hiány, hisz az első számmal ellentétben a XI. századi golpejerai csatáról szóló Golpejar például egy gyors, szinte heavy metalos beütésű tétel – úgyszintén a blackes dobtémákkal operáló, kasztíliai mondát felelevenítő La Mano Negra („A fekete kéz”).
Mindemellett pedig kifejezetten igényes grafika és elég korrekt hangzás jellemzi a házi készítésű EP-t. A népi témák rendkívül dicséretesek, a gitárok és basszus is elég erősek, a hörgések/vokálok terén azonban kicsit több változatosság ráférne a csapatra. E kislemez ígéretes bemutatkozó anyag és kitűnő példája annak, hogy a folk/pagan metal vonalban még mekkora potenciál rejtőzik!

ENGLISH VERSION:
Heid is a young Spanish band from Madrid and as their name suggests, they had played Nordic, Scandinavian pagan metal originally. The concept was changed by the time and instead of Viking topics (which are way too popular among even the Hispanic bands), they focused on their local history and myths.
After a demo and revival in line-up, the sixpiece recorded their debut mini-album entitled Voces de la Tierra Dormida (“Voices of the Sleeping Earth”) EP in their home-studio. On the 30-minute-long material there are no separate intro and outro but we get five hard pagan death metal tracks with Spanish lyrics – inspired by the Castilian and Celtiberian history and mythology. The music, the riffing, the growls remained traditional with the marks of Norwegian black metal and Swedish viking death metal however the material has a pleasant folksy touch created by ethnic Spanish flutes, bagpipes, fiddle and jaw harp. For example in the violin interlude of No Habrá Paz (“There’ll Be No Peace” – it’s about aggressive Christian conversion) I feel the influence of Llvme, a great Leonese folk/Celtic doom metal band while its guitar solo brings some oriental atmosphere into this dark song. The tempo isn’t monotonous on the album, as in contradiction with the first track; Golpejar – telling the story of the battle of Golpejera in the 11th century – is a fast, almost heavy metal-like piece. The same goes to La Mano Negra (“The Black Hand”), a track about a Castilian legend with blackish drum play.
Besides all of these, the home-made EP contains a really nice artwork and its sound is quite good. The folk themes are absolutely great, the guitars and bass are also strong enough but they should make the growls/vocals a bit more diverse. This mini-album is a promising debut material and a good example for the hidden potential of folk/pagan metal!
