Kellemes emlékeim vannak a Lyfthrasyr-ról: néhány éve már felfedeztem magamnak a németeket a The Recent Foresight c. lemezzel, akkor azonban nem jutottam túl messzire az ismerkedéssel, így az alig több, mint egy hónapja kihozott új cucc remek apropót kínált rá, hogy megmikrózzam érdeklődésemet a duó munkássága iránt, az Engineered Flesh pedig várakozásomnak megfelelően, hamar meg is hálálta a bizalmat elsőosztályú ipari zenéjével.
Szigorúan pozitív értelemben véve érdekes területre tévedt a korong, mert stílusilag egyszerre történt fejlődés dark, industrial és elektronikai fronton, mindezt úgy, hogy a zene továbbra is szemrebbenés nélkül súlyos metalnak kategorizálható. Valahol tehát a tisztes keményzenei industrial és a durva elektro beütés között van az igazság, hozzáadva a képlethez a zenekar black metal-ban gyökeredző múltját, attól függően, hogy éppen melyik dalt hallgatjuk, pont ez a változatosság teszi ugyanakkor lehetővé, hogy ne csak kedvenceinket válogatva, hanem egységes, bő 40 percnyi játékidőben is vonzza a figyelmet a tartalom.
Mindjárt egy nagyon erős kezdéssel nyit a lemez, a The New Era Of Immortality egy nagyszerűen megkomponált szerzemény, mely sokmindent elárul a folytatásról. Az itt hallható sampleres lendülettörések a későbbiekben is gyakorta előfordulnak, mint ahogy arra is ritkán lesz példa, hogy nem zörög valami elektronika vagy szimfónikus betét a gitárok alatt. Így tulajdonképpen ha – a dalok hangulati jellegétől eltekintünk – kizárólag a hangzásvilágot vesszük alapul, akkor bárkinek garantálom, hogy a szó szoros értelmében öt perc alatt képes lesz dűlőre jutni a tetszést/nem tetszést illetően, lévén a továbbiakban is marad a megkezdett színvonal és ízlésvilág, pusztán csak akadnak más megközelítésű pillanatok is. Ilyen például a hármas Technological Singularity, mely a gyors, agresszív kezdést követően az ipari zenék már egy sokkal könnyedebb, emészthetőbb vonulatát képviseli, később a Wisdom In The Loop pedig még ennél is tovább lazít a gyeplőn és oldja a szigort a maga Turmion Kätilöt/Ruoska és társai-féle „bulimetallal”. Szerencsére a szám felét kitöltő gépies, női narráció és a középtájra beszúrt szimfónikus kiállás azért csempész némi egyéniséget és művészeti értéket a dologba, egy dalnyi kihágás pedig kimondottan jót tesz az összhatásnak, még ha nyilvánvalóan kicsit ki is lóg a zenekar profiljából ez a fajta kommerszitás. Zárásként aztán itt van még a Life Overdose, az album kvázi manifesztója, ami a New Era-hoz hasonlóan szintén elég hiteles képet ad a komplett anyag tartalmáról. Mind az igazi extrém metal, mind a dallamosabb oldalt kiválóan bemutatja, illetve egyes részeiben tisztán kiütközteti a tökéletes keverést, napnál világosabban nyomatékosítva ezzel az elvárt fémzenei dominanciát az elektronikus témák felett.
A játékidő nem túl hosszú, ráadásul nincs töltelék a tracklistben, így automatikusan hallgattatja magát a cucc – nem is kell itt művészkedni, tömören, röviden, unalom nélkül lényegesen nagyobbat üt az egész, mint mondjuk az új Shade Empire anyag. A borító is kiválóan illik a koncepcióba, bár lehetett volna benne egy kicsivel több fantázia vagy figyelemfelkeltés, főleg, hogy Aggreash és Nefastus tényleg megérdemelnék az odafigyelést, legalább a kitűzött célközönségtől. Szövegeket szintén szívesen olvastam volna a hallgatnivaló mellé, meggyőződésem ugyanis, hogy nem hétköznapi ostobaságokról szólnak a dalok – de nyilván a promóciós anyag nem gátolja meg az érdeklődőket, hogy vásárlás után kezükbe vegyék a bookletet, különösen limitált kiadásban, ahol egy spéci bónusz DVD is jár a csomag mellé, rajta egy 2011-es kijevi koncertfelvétellel.
Nem kevés időt, majdnem napra pontosan 6 évet vártak a rajongók a The Recent Foresight folytatására, ám megérte türelmesnek lenni, mert mint utaltam rá, jókora előrelépés történt a legutóbbi kiadvány óta. Mondhatnánk, hogy szűk rétegben nem nehéz kimagaslót alkotni, azonban nem véletlenül van relatíve kevés industrial black-et képviselő banda a színtéren, hisz két nehezen formálható, és méginkább nehezen emészthető műfaj fúziójáról van szó. A Lyfthrasyr viszont remek koktélt kevert az alkotókból, stíluson belül, jelen állás szerint, komoly kihívás lesz felülmúlni a The Engeenered Flesh-et.

I have a pleasant memory about Lyfthrasyr: I already discovered the Germans a couple years ago with the album called „The Recent Foresight”, but I didn’t really dig deeper into their sound, so the freshly released new album gave me a perfect appointment to warm-up my interest, and as I expected, the Engeenered Flesh has proved itself as first-class industrial material.
Strickly in a positive meaning, the album has arrived to an interesting field, because we can see progression in all the dark, industrial and electronic themes at the same time, while the music itself still remains heavy fucking metal. So, looking at the style, the truth is somewhere between proper industrial metal, harsh electro influences plus the black past of the band, depending on which song are we listening. But exactly this variety makes the album so enjoyable, because it drags your attention in the whole more than 40 minutes, and not just at your favorite parts of it.
The album starts with a really strong opening. The New Era Of Immortality is a masterly created opus, which actually tells a lot about what we can expect in the continuation, like frequently breaking the dynamism with sample interlines, or tunes with always rattling electronics and/or additional symphonic parts in the background. So strictly speaking, if you avoid the various atmospheres and only looking at the sound itself, I can guarantee that you’ll be able to decide in literally 5 minutes whether the album fits to you or not, since the style and quality will remain the same, even if there are songs with some different approach. One of this kind is the third track, Technological Singularity, which presents a way more airy and digestable type of industrial music after the fast and aggressive start of the album, but Wisdom In The Loop goes even further than this. It sounds like a classic, lax „party metal” song on the path of bands like Ruoska or Turmion Kätilöt, but fortunately, the mechanical, female narration and the symphonic twist in the middle give it a character and a bit of artistic value and eventually, it turns out refreshing and acceptable, even though it seems obvious that this commercial attitude is not a natural part of Lyfthrasyr’s basic profile. One more worth to highlight is Life Overdose, the last shot and also pretty much the manifesto of the record – just like the opening, it also paints a trustworthy image of what „The Engineered Flesh” contains. Both real extreme metal and more melodic themes unite, and in specific parts, it reflects upon the perfect mixing, clearly make us see the dominance of metal upon all the electronic influence built in the album.
The length is not too long and there is no stuffing in the tracklist, so it comes natural to give it another listen over and over again. There’s no need to pretend and act like „what a huge artist I am”, this is solid, direct, marvelous work without boring moments, and trust me, it’s much better this way than for example, in the case of the new Shade Empire material. The album cover fits to the conception too, although it could’ve been a little bit more imaginative, or a lil more catchy for the eye, especially, that Aggreash and Nefastus should really deserve more attention, at least from the target audience of the music. It could also be great to read some lyrics along the music, I’m sure the content isn’t just about ferial stupidity – but of course, my promotional copy doesn’t forbid you to buy the record and read them all in the booklet, specially in the limited edition which contains a bonus DVD as well, about a live performance made in Kiev, 2011.
The fans may waited for a painfully long time, almost precisely 6 years after „The Recent Foresight” to hear this stuff, but it was worth to be patient, because like I mentioned before, it’s a huge step forward in the band’s career. We could say, that it’s not so hard to create something outstanding in a relatively small scene, but then we must think about the reasons that why is it so small? Industrial black metal is a fusion between two hardly workable and fictile genre, but these guys mixed the ingredients perfectly, so I’m gonna say, it’ll be challenging to make better than this with the same conditions.
