A 2006-ban alakult Finnországi zenekar második lemeze („Faustian Evangelion” CD 2007) alig egy hónapja látott napvilágot. Az érdekes zenei ötvözetet használó banda – Antti Lampinen (programok), Janne Niskanen (szintetizátor), Mikko Ahlfors (ének), Ristomatti Rinne (basszusgitár), Teemu Liekkala (gitár), Ville Sivonen (dob) – főleg súlyos metal alapokra épít, de a dallamos témák itt is sok helyen előtérbe kerülnek.
A tizenkét számos korong egy rövidebb Intro-val nyit, amiben különböző hangok vegyülnek össze. A Maggot Infested már keményebb hangokon szólal meg, erőteljes gitárriffek, pontos alapok, szintivel megerősített refrén, a verze monoton zakatolása egy kissé a doom metal középső korszakát idézi, és talán nem is áll olyan messze az állítástól a valóság. A dallamos és a karcos, mély ének nagyon jól illeszkedik a témákra. A Mind And Machine egy tempós dal, hangulatilag olyan, mint valami gothic metal durvulás, de zeneileg nagyrészt inkább a modern metal és a hardcore ötvözete, ami a témákat illeti. Ütős nóta ez, minden rendesen megszólal benne, a refrént aláfestő szinti disszonáns tónusai pedig érdekessé teszik a hangulatot. A Murder Mandate az előző vonalon halad tovább nagyjából, de itt sokkal dallamosabbak a refréntémák. Túlnyomórészt súlyos gitárriffek zakatolnak, a dob, mint valami kalapács, úgy súlyt le, a basszusgitár játéka feszes hangokkal operál. Az ének itt színesebb, szélesebb skálán mozog az összetett zene nyújtotta lehetőségek közt, a már említett refrén pedig egyszerűen zseniális.
Az On The Eve Of Tempest igazi headbanger szám, itt is a szaggatott riffek uralkodnak, az ének feszes, tele tomboló energiával, a zene pedig a melodikus death metal jegyeivel van tele. Rendkívül erősen szólal meg minden, a sound vastag. A dallamosabb betét enyhén himnikus jellegű, és egyben rendkívül eltalált. Ez igen.
Az Adeptus Satanicus egy meglepetés. Abszolút úgy indul a szám, mint valami alternatív rock banda száma, majd hirtelen átmegy az egész egy gothic/doom metal ötvözetbe. Minden benne van, ami kell, a súlyosan lüktető témák úgyanúgy, ahogyan a dallamos, szállós, finom részek, a maguk melankoliájával. A Waste In Flesh pusztitó szélviharként tarol le mindent maga előtt, olyan erővel tör fel, hogy eszmélni sincs idő. Ismét visszatértünk a modern metal/hardcore hangulathoz. Lazán el tudnám képzelni egy autós üldözés zenéjeként is. A hangulata olyan, mint egy bomlott elme látomásai. A Dahlia komplex variánsokkal indít, a gitár riffek élesek és tónusosak, a dob határozott ütemei, a koszos hangok már-már néha a stoner stílust idézik fel. Itt is találhatunk dallamos, epikus betétet, ami nagyon ütősen szólal meg. Minden hang a helyén van, egy alapszám, rendesen felépítve és előadva.
A következő nóta az Absence a sorban. Mély harmóniákkal nyit a szintetizátor, a vihar hangjai a közelben vannak. A különféle zajokkal és beszédrészekkel effektezett finom, melankolikus átvezetés az üresség érzetét keltik, a fénytelen lét erőfeszítéseit. A Stillborn Messiah a ’90-es évek melodikus doom/death bandáinak hangulatát idézi. A komor felhők alatt a kiégett táj esőmosta arca fájdalmas hangokként tör fel a gitárok húrjain. Súlyos, lassú, őrlős riffek, karakteres, sötét hangulat, amibe a dallamos refrének napsütést hoznak, egy pillanatnyi reményt. A My Becoming ismét egy tempós nóta, teli dühvel, haraggal, ami szétszaggat mindent maga körül, szinte látni, ahogy a lélek a test börtönében senyved. Alaptémákra épül fel az egész, de jól szól, az ilyen dalokra szokták mondani, hogy rádióbarát. Az utolsó track a Departure, ami szintén egy kevés technikai trükkel van megbolondítva a pörgősebb részeken. A finom, akusztikus részeket is alkalmazó nóta kissé epikus, de mindezt nagyon súlyos zenei masszaként előadva, ahol minden hangszer szinte önálló életre kel. Ez is nagyon jól össze lett pakolva. Habár már az első számok meggyőztek, most csak még jobban érzem, hogy a kilenc pont még kevés is. Mindenféle metal fannak ajánlatos meghallgatni az új MP lemezt!!!

The second album („Faustian Evangelion” CD 2007) of this Finnish band formed in 2006 was released a month ago. The band – consisting of – Antti Lampinen (programming), Janne Niskanen (synth), Mikko Ahlfors (vox), Ristomatti Rinne (bass), Teemu Liekkala (guitar), Ville Sivonen (drums) – base their tracks mainly on heavier metal themes, but the more melodic parts are also dominant here and there.
The twelve-tracker opens with a shorter intro mixing various sounds. Maggot Infested is heavier with powerful guitar riffs, precise base and synth-supported chorus, and the monotonous nature of the refrain reminds of the middle era of doom metal a bit. The melodic and rawer, deep vocals fit the song well. Mind And Machine is a faster one, atmosphere-wise like heavier gothic metal, but musically like a mixture of modern metal and hardcore, as far as the themes are concerned. A killer track, and the dissonant synth themes under the chorus make the whole mood interesting. Murder Mandate continues that line but there are more melodic chorus themes in it. For the most part, the guitar riffs are heavy, the drum is like a hammer and the bass also operates with tight sounds. The vocals are also varied here, moving on a wider range provided by the track itself, and the mentioned chorus is absolutely great.
On The Eve Of Tempest is a real headbanger song, here also staccato riffs prevail, the vocals are tight and full of energy and the music is filled with the trademarks of melodic death metal. The sound is real powerful and thick. The more melodic inset is slightly hymnic and, at the same time, cool. Excellent.
Adeptus Satanicus is a surprise. The tune starts off like an alternative rock track and then, suddenly, it turns into gothic/doom metal mixture. It has everything it should, both the heavily pulsing themes and melodic, floating, fine parts with their own melancholy. Waste In Flesh devastates everything on its way like a destructive gale, it has enormous power leaving no time for anything. We’re back to the modern metal/hardcore mood again. I could easily imagine this as a music for a car chase. Its mood is like a sick mind’s visions. Dahlia opens with complex variants, the guitar riffs are sharp and tuneful, and the determined rhythms of drums and the dirty sounds remind me of almost the stoner genre. There are also here melodic, epic parts which are really killer. Every note is on its place, it’s a well-built and -performed tune.
Next up is Absence. The synth opens with deep harmonies, the voices of a coming storm are near. The melancholic theme consisting of various noises and spoken parts creates the feeling of emptiness, the efforts of lightless existence. Stillborn Messiah evokes the feeling of the melodic doom/death acts of the ’90s. The rain-washed face of the burnt landscape under the sombre clouds bursts up like painful sounds on the guitar strings. Heavy, slow, grinding riffs, characteristic and dark atmosphere in which the melodic chorus brings some instant hope. My Becoming is again a faster song, full of rage, wrath, tearing everything apart around it, as if the soul could be seen suffering in its prison… It’s based on basic themes but it sounds good, such tunes are called radio-friendly, I believe.
The last one is titled Departure, which is also spiced with some technical tricks at the faster parts. The song, operating here and there with fine, acoustic parts, is slightly epic, but performed as a heavy musical mass, and every instrument lives its own life. A well-built up track, too. Although the previous tracks convinced me much I’m feeling even more that 9 points aren’t enough. I recommend the new MP album for all kinds of metal fan.
