Kuba világhírű szigetország – rum, szivarok, gyönyörű tájak… és metál bandák. Egyikük, akiket megkaptam, hogy kritikát írjak róluk, a black metálos Narbeleth, és negyedik, Indomitvs (latinul „megszelídíthetetlen”) című albumuk. Az első érdekes dolog a bandáról az, hogy csak egy tagja van – Lord Dakkar. Be kell valljam, ez az első élményem a kubai metál zenével. De néha szerelembe esel első látásra.
Az egész intró vagy hasonló nélkül kezdődik, az első szám, a The Distortion of Life az elejétől fogva lezúz minket. Nyers black metál dallamos részekkel és sötét hangulattal. Ha hasonló bandákat kellene mondanom, akkor a skandináv black metál lenne az, főleg kezdeti Satyricon, 1349, Bathory de új és eredeti köntösben. Aztán jön a fantasztikus When The Sun Has Died. Epikus dal rengeteg jó ötlettel, riffekkel… igazi remekmű. Egy másik zseniális dal a Herald of The Dawn, ami egyenesen célba talál, és szintén tökéletes a hangszeres oldala. De őszintén szólva, az egész album tele van remek zenészi ötletekkel. Néha nehéz elhinni, hogy a Narbeleth egyszemélyes banda. Lord Dakkar hatalmas tehetség, az Indomitvs pedig egyértelmű bizonyíték erre. Ezt hallani a Sinister Laberynths of Human Soul számon is, ahol a „klasszikus black metál” mellett akusztikus részeket is hallunk. Bár egyedül ebben a számban hallunk ilyet a lemezen, mégis remek példa arra, hogyan lehet gazdagítani a zenét. Egy feldolgozás is felcsendül, a Dadmellin az Arckanum bandától. Bárhogy is igyekeztem, sajnos nem találtam meg neten az eredeti számot, így nem tudom azzal összehasonlítani.
Nincs túl sok dallamos rész, mint gitárszólók stb, de amiket hallhatunk, azok minőségiek. Szóval fognak tetszeni. Ahogy korábban is írtam, főleg a régi Satyricon zenéjére hajaz. Csak éppen a középkori elemek nélkül, de ugyanolyan sötét atmoszféra, ami minden dallamban átölel minket. Lord Dakkar tudja mit és hogyan kell tennie. A vokál-sikoly is magas szintű, és ha összegezzük az Indomitvs tökéletes hangszeres részével, az eredmény egyértelmű.
Ha tehát nyers metált keresel skandináv behatással, a Narbeleth lehet a választásod. Nyers, hangulatos remekmű.
Cuba is world famous island and country- rum, cigars, holidays, beautiful lanscapes… and also some metal bands. One of them, which I got for reviewing was black metal Narbeleth with their fourth album called Indomitvs– Latin word for untamable. The first interesting thing about this group is that it has only one member- Lord Dakkar. I have to admit, that this was my first touch with the metal music from Cuba. But sometimes, you can fall in love at first sight.
Everything starts without an intro or anything similar, and the first song The Distortion of Life crushes us from the beginning. Raw black metal with some more melodic parts full of dark atmosphere. If I had to name bands that sound similar to me, it would be the Scandinavian school of black metal, mainly old Satyricon, 1349, Bathory but in a new and original dress. Then we continue with the fantastic piece When The Sun Has Died. Epic song with lots of great ideas, riffs… Pure masterpiece. Another ingenious song is Herald of The Dawn, straight attack on the goal, and again with perfect instrumental side. But to be honest, all tunes on this album are full of great musician ideas. Sometimes, it is hard to believe that Narbeleth is only one man band. Lord Dakkar has enormous talent, and Indomitvs is clear evidence of it. Alike in the Sinister Laberynths of Human Soul, where we can hear beside the “classical black metal music” and also acoustic parts. Good step on how to enrich music, but alone of this type on the CD. We can also hear one cover from band Arckanum called Dadmellin. Despite my effort, I did not find it on the internet, so I cannot compare it to the original.
There are not too many melodic parts such as guitar solos etc., but the ones we can hear are on a high level. So, I suppose that you will love them. As I said before, the main band which I will pick up such as similar is old Satyricon. Only without medieval elements, but still with dark atmosphere, which embraces us in every tune. Lord Dakkar knows what to do and how to do it. His vocal- scream is also on a high level and if we sum it up with perfect instrumental side of the Indomitvs, result must be clear.
So, if you look up for some raw metal with influence of Scandinavian school from exotic, Narbeleth should be your choice. Rawness, atmosphere, masterpiece.
