A korong minden ízében készítői természethez való szoros kapcsolatát hordozza.

A Destrunken I-ben válik először mozgalmasabbá a muzsika, erős Empyrium-párhuzamokkal. A mozgalmasságot főként a dobok adják, melyek időnként olyan témákat ütnek, amik metalzene alá is elférnének. A többi hangszernek köszönhetően azonban az összkép mindvégig folkos marad, itt-ott dúdolható és könnyen megjegyezhető dallamokkal. A tétel végén hallható gyors hegedűfutamot mintha már hallottam volna valamilyen klasszikus műben, ahhoz azonban nem vagyok elég jó ezen a téren, hogy biztosra menjek. A Destrunken két része közt nincsen szünet, szerves egészet képeznek, nekem mégis a második rész lett a kedvencem az albumról. Az első részt lezáró gyors hegedűtéma többször is visszatér a dalban, természettől származó, ősi fákban áramló életerőt közvetítve a hallgató felé.

A „Weites End” gyönyörűszép lírai dal, zongoratémája a nagy klasszikus zeneszerzőket idézi. Egyébiránt bármennyire is furcsán hangzik, több alkalommal is beugrott ennek a filmnek a neve, a Destrunken sokszor a Rohírok népét és földjét idézi lelki szemeim elé.

Noha itt sem bővül a hangszerpark semmilyen elektromos eszközzel, egészen black metal-szerű részeket is hallunk, sőt, egy folkosított Enslavedként leírható borult pillanatot is csempésztek ide.
A szám végén újra férfiéneket hallunk, mely jellegzetesen népies énekdallamokat hoz, persze németül.

A kétperces gitáros bevezető után a zongora magas fekvésű, csilingelő hangjai veszik át a főszerepet, melyek alá zümmögő (hegedű?)téma úszik be.

ENGLISH VERSION:

Though my greatest musical interest is undoubtedly metal music, I adore various other underground and less underground genres. Obviously, as a journalist of a metal portal, I rarely get the chance to write about music that might even be closer to my heart than distorted guitars and growling. That’s why I was overly happy when I got the news that we will get the chance to write about the releases of Prophecy Productions and its two sublabels, Lupus Lounge and Auerbach Tonträger. The specialty of the German label-family lies in their principle set at the beginning, namely that they would release anything that is touching and inspiring for the listener. That is why black metal and acoustic folk bands are just as likely to be found here as ones playing indie rock. My first review of a Prophecy Productions-related artist was that of the debut of Arctic Plateau, but I didn’t know that band previously. On the second occassion, fate brought me together with a familiar stranger in the form of Neun Welten. Familiar stranger because though I have their debut, I don’t remember listening to it too much. Their sophomore however, which will be released by the very end of November under the title „Destrunken”, could not evade its fate.

I was happy to write about music without any electronic instruments, but I was also somewhat concerned as to how will I be able to express the massive values of this disc with my vocabulary that is used to riffs and kick drums.
The cover art is very suggestive with its naturalness and simplicity. We see a pencil drawing depicting a mystic shape standing before a detail of a lake and a forest on a background imitating wood. The special edition of the album comes with a bonus disc containing demo recordings from the album sessions, all wrapped in a linen bag with a Neun Welten logo on it that is appealing both to the eye and to the hand. The title of the album is a fictitious word solely designed to invoke various emotions and associations.
The disc carries its makers’ close relationship to nature in its every aspect. Its deep and ancient melodies, instrumentation, and even sound is mystic, spiritual, sylvan and sometimes shamanic, conjuring the mood of bands like The Moon and the Nightspirit or Tenhi. Of course we could not help but mention that Neun Welten got the closest to fill a very important and painful void in the heart of the lovers of spiritual folk music: that left by Empyrium.

The initial melodies of Frosthauch are already capable of taking the listener away on wings of acoustic guitar and delicate piano to a peaceful Grimm-world. Flute also appears in the song and when you return, two minutes have already passed. Male and female vocals are also present on the disc, both of them being sensitive, clean and not forced or exaggerated at all, which does really good to the music. Drums and other percussion complete the instruments. There is one more very important element of Neun Welten that is the violin, which steals a little sadness into our hearts despite all the peace if Destrunken. Those who have been fortunate enough to catch the band on their tours with Dornenreich or Tenhi have already heard the first and second part of the eponymous song. The structure of the songs is always the same, but it would be a rude thing to analyse such things in the case of such ethereal music.
The disc is far easier to describe with pictures and moods. Sometimes it is just like when you wrapped in a blanket sit next to the vapory winter window with a hot tea in your hand and laugh into the face of the world. The music is very autumn-(winter-)like, the broad sunlight of summer would take away much of its magic. The music first becomes more dynamic in Destrunken I, which has strong Empyrium-parallels. This dynamism is mostly provided by the drums, which play ideas that would fit under metal music as well. Thanks to the rest of the instruments, the picture remains folkish with melodies easy to hum and remember. The fast violin-run at the end of the song makes me wonder whether I have heard it before in some classic work. However, I am not good enough on this field to tell for sure. There’s no space between the two Destrunken songs, they form an indivisible whole, still, my favourite of the album is the second one. The fast violin part closing the first half returns a few times in the second one, conveying nature-born power towards the listener that flows in ancient trees. Here, the aforementioned German band, Dornenreich popped into my mind. That band deals with black metal as well as music similar to that of Neun Welten. Destrunken II ends with a moody and painful violin stroke.

The next song, strangely titled Jarknez, is somewhat weaker than the previous; it sounds like a metal song transferred to folk instruments. The kick drum is quite fast in more than half of the song and speedy, black metal-like cymbals accompany the violin and the low key acoustic guitar. As in Destrunken I-II, there are no vocals here either, the band uses their voice with really good sense. The drums turn into an almost-blastbeat by the end of the song, but the folkish, natural feeling remains.
„Weites End” is a beatiful lyrical song; it’s pianos remind me of the great classic composers. The flute sends shivers running down the listener’s spine and he can feel the cold wind on his face and the smell of emerald grass and aquamarine water. This is a return to the ancient home, to the protection of roots, to the warmth of the moss blanket. The creator of the album’s artwork, Fursy Teyssier has a new short animated film entitled Tir Nan Og, the mood of which fits very well with that of this song. I warmly recommend to watch the film on YouTube. The next song, „Ewig Ruh” is three and a half minute long and is played solely by violin. It often summons the mood of the score of The Lord of the Rings, especially the theme of Rohan. It may sound odd, but this movie has popped into my mind a few times during the album, evoking images of the folk and land of the Rohirs. Dämmerung starts with delicate guitars later joined by violin and they lead the song on until the mood turns a bit grim and, first since the first song, we hear human vocals. Mildly starting female vocals later turn eclectic and are joined by low tone male vocals in German. The song ends in a finale with dense cymbal-play.

The eighth Schein starts with a duet of male vocals and guitars, later crying flutes comfort our ears and projects the image of endless, windy plains. Soon, strange, suppressed, and sliding guitar sounds come in later turning the song into the weirdest one on the album. Though no electronic instrument joins here, we get some really black metalish stuff and even an insane piece sounding like a folky Enslaved. Finally, everthing returns to normal and the song is closed by delicate drumming, sensitive guitars and the starting crying flute.
The penultimate song, Der Stille See is lead by two acoustic guitars, the chords of one of them providing background to the other’s elaborate melodies. The use of the drum SEPR… gives a jazzy flavour to the track, further strengthened by an aerophone instrument, which I do not recognize. The title of the song (The Still Sea) is absolutely accurate, the rhythm and periodicity of the music is similar to the waves of a peaceful sea. There are male vocals at the end of the track with typically folkish melodies, of course all in German.

The final song is entitled Tau and is the longest on the disc with a playtime of almost eight minutes. After two minutes of guitar introduction, the high, twinkly sounds of the piano become the protagonists. Later, they are joined by a strange humming sound, perhaps from the violin. The piano stays dominant all along; and – just like in the case of all the others – that’s all that can be said about the song. You have to hear it, with your back to a tree in the forest, eyes closed and feeling nature around you. The wet leaves on the ground, the flapping of the wings of scared birds above you, the rustling of small animals on the ground, the flow of life all around you. The dynamic drums at the end will perfectly conjure this feeling into you, wherever you came from, whoever you are. The final silencing is a strange end to an album of such artistic quality, but it’s not disillusioning. It even helps to create the need to listen to Destrunken over and over again. This is a folk masterpiece of ethereal beauty with its own dark moments; the whisper, encouragement, and sigh of our Mother Earth.
