A Pantheon I nevet viselő black metal zenekar 2002-ben alakult. A Norvég hordával most találkoztam először, és meg kell hagyni, nagyon maradandó nyomot hagytak bennem.
Zenéjük felettébb érdekes. Egyszerre tudnak lágy melankolikus dallamokkal elkápráztatni és olyan erejű pusztítást prezentálni a hallgatónak, amely nagyon felkavaró tud lenni. Az akusztikus gitároktól kezdve, a szimfonikus dallamokon át, a gyengéd cselló harmóniái mind-mind magával ragadó atmoszférát rejt.
Esetünkben nem egy egyszerű black zenekarról beszélünk. Néha már-már az Emperor, illetve az Opeth hatásait véltem felfedezni a zenekarban, vegyítve egy kis Satyriconnal. De mégis egyedi!
Rögtön az első dalnál – Myself above all – találkozhatunk azzal az erővel, amely meghatározza az album koncepcióját. Eléggé apokaliptikus hangvételű ez a nóta és jó hírként szolgáljon, van még pár ilyen a tarsolyukban. Ilyen többek között a Defile the trinity, amely magában hordozza a sötét, fagyos norvég erőt. A Sepent Christ egy nagyon kemény, és agresszív pokoli muzsika, amelyet az Ascending követ a maga elsöprő erejével, ámbár elég csalfa a szerzemény, ugyanis találkozhatunk benne egy nagyon kellemes cselló kiállással, amely egy gyönyörű összképet alkotván, észre sem vesszük, hogy már a Burn the crossnál, az ötödik nótánál járunk. Csak akkor tűnik fel a váltás, amikor a srácok egy hatalmas blastbeat csapást mérnek ránk. Hihetetlen, hogy a zenekar mekkora monumentalitást tud belecsempészni a munkájukba.
A sorban a hatodik szerzemény a kedvencem, mely a Bannlyst címet kapta. Igazi sötét hangvételű fekete fém, amely dallamos témájával elragadja a hallgatót. Sajnos a The Last Stand már kevésbé élvezhető. Szokványos BM dal, amely kellőképpen hajaz a Keep of Kalessin mostani koncepciójához. Elérkeztünk az utolsó dalhoz, amely egy vérbeli black metal szerzemény! A Written In Sand tudja leginkább prezentálni, hogy a zenekar tagjai mennyire is értik a dolgukat. A kereken hét perces számban nem akármilyen zúzást hallhatunk rengeteg váltással. A gyönyörű levezetés után, pedig az ember csak ámul és bámul. Nem gondoltam volna, hogy ilyen „rövidnek” tűnik majd ez a negyvenhét perc.
Összességében, ez egy zseniális lemez lett. Hangzásilag teljesen rendben van, bár szerintem lehetett volna egy kicsit „koszosabb”. Ami még hangulatossá varázsolja az összképet, az maga a borító. Akárhogy is vesszük, ritka számba mennek már azok a zenekarok, akik jól teljesítenek a black metál berkein belül. Csak ajánlani tudom mindenkinek, aki kedveli a sötét, hangulatos, gyors black metalt.

ENGLISH VERSION:
The band Pantheon I was formed in 2002. This was my first encounter with this Norwegian horde, and they had a deep impression on me. Their music is highly interesting. They can enchant the listener with soft, melancholic melodies and present extremely intense and moving musical destruction at the same time. From the acoustic guitars through the symphonic melodies to the harmonies of the gentle cello, everything creates an atmosphere that draws you in.
So this is not a simple black metal band. Sometimes I even discover the elements of Emperor or Opeth mixed with a little Satyricon. And it still remains unique!
Already at the first song – Myself above All – we can meet the power that determines the concept of the album. It’s an apocalyptic song and it’s good news that it’s not the only one on the album. Among others, Defile the Trinity is one of these, carrying the dark, frosty Norwegian force. Serpent Christ is an extremely brutal, aggressive and hellish song followed by the crushing power of Ascending. This is a somewhat misleading song however, since we can find a very nice cello solo in it, forming a beautiful soundscape, which draws our attention so much, that we don’t even notice that we’re already listening to the fifth song, Burn the Cross. The change becomes clear only when the guys strike at us with a huge blastbeat. The monumentality in the song is unbeliavable.
The sixth song is my favourite, entitled Bannlyst. It’s real dark-mooded black metal, drawing the listener in with its melodic ideas. Unfortunately, The Last Stand is less enjoyable. It is a regular black metal song quite similar to Keep of Kalessin’s current style. We have arrived at the last song which is perfect black metal track! Written in Sand can best present the technical qualities and knowledge of the members of the band. There’s incredible grinding in this 7-minutes song with lots of changes. After the beautiful ending, the listener just stares in disbelief. I didn’t expect these 47 minutes to be so short.
All in all, this is an ingenious album. Its sound is perfectly okay, only in my opinion it could have been a bit more fitlhy. The cover art makes this experience even more moody. Sadly, there are very few bands nowadays that can create something classy in black metal. I can only recommend it to anyone who likes dark, moody, and fast black metal.
