Gyanítom és remélem, hogy a Prong-ot az újabb nemzedékeknek sem kell bemutatni. Tommy Victor gitáros/énekes/agy és társai folyamatosan nagyot alkottak a 90-es években, én a Cleansing albumot tartom a csúcsteljesítményüknek, de a többi anyag is igencsak rendben van. A feloszlás után Tommy a Danzigben és a Ministry-ben nyűtte a húrokot, az új kollégáktól magára szedve ezt-azt, hogy az új Prongban felhasználja a tanultakat.
Sejtelmem sem volt, mit is rejthet az új Prong album, de bíztam Tommy-ban és abban, hogy jó súlyos riffekkel tolja tele az anyagot. Ezzel tulajdonképpen nem is lenne nagy gond, vannak fasza riffek, olykor emlékezetes refrének is, de ami mégis meghatározza a zenét, a hangulatot, az az elektronika, mely erős techno/industrial hatással, jelenléttel bír. Kicsit olyan, mintha Prodigy-be lenne oltva az egész. A lemez címéből gyaníthattam volna valami ilyesfélét, de botor módon minden előzetes infó ismerete nélkül rágtam át magam többször is az anyagon. Mint utóbb (a dalokról szóló pár sor összeállta után) számomra is kiderült, ez a 2007-es Power Of The Damager CD remix változata. Az eredetiről is inkább lehetett a jellegtelenségét hangsúlyozó írásokat olvasni (sajnos én sem találtam túl emlékezetesnek), így ezt a komplett mixalbumot talán nem kellett volna (szándékosan csúnyán fogalmazva) elkövetni.
Jól hallható a dalokon, hogy dallamok és énekstílus tekintetében nem múltak el nyomtalanul Tommy fölött a Danzigban töltött évek, a sok elektronikus kütyü iránti szerelem pedig a Danzig mellett a Ministry soraiban is tovább mélyülhetett.
A CD egyik csúcspontja a viszonylag dallamgazdag, de a többi trackhez hasonlóan monoton The Banishment két változata. Jó témával indul, de hamar ellaposodik, a gépies ritmusok alatt kiüresedik a Power Of The Damager, melyben az igazi hangszerek szinte csak színezik a képet. Fura megoldásai ellenére is az összeszedettebb, gitárcentrikusabb dalok egyike a 3rd Option, hard techno/trance vagy ördög tudja, milyen stílusú a Pure Ether. S bár nem kifejezetten rockhoz szokott füleknek való a Message Inside Of Me sem, biztos van olyan party, ahol a kicsit szétlúgozott figurák élvezettel ropnák rá. Emlékezetesebb darab a dallamosabb riffet és refrént hozó Looking For Them, míg lassabb, az idegeket borzoló ipari zajszett a Spirit Guide. Pedig lélek nincs benne, az tuti. Kicsit metalosabb felfogású track a Changing Ending Troubling Times emlékezetes szintis, úsztatós középrésszel, míg a záró Bad Fall-ból a hegedű említhető meg esetleg emelhető ki.
Szinte minden nótában agyoneffektezett, szörcsögő, bugyogó a basszus hangképe, olykor az ének is át van eresztve ilyen-olyan szűrőkön, a gitár pedig finoman fogalmazva töketlen, szinte alig van súlya, még akkor is, amikor egyébként lehetne.
A monotónia miatt kicsit összefolynak a dalok, könnyen masszának tűnhet az egész, bár lehet, hogy az elektronikus zenékben jártasabb fülek jobban észreveszik és értékelik a nekem fel sem tűnő hangzásbéli, ritmikai stb. differenciákat, ínyencségeket. Azt hiszem, ez az anyag nem nekem készült. Talán 3-5 dalt még valahogy meg tudnék emészteni, de ebben a formátumban, ebben a mennyiségben nekem ez sok. És unalmas. Sajnos nem is kicsit. Mondhatni fölösleges kiadvány, bár Tommy és Al biztosan tudják, miért adták ki. Ha a számomra nyújtott élményt veszem alapul, akkor 3-4 pont, ha a befektetett melót és azt is, hogy biztos vannak, akiknek tetszhet az anyag, akkor jóindulattal 5.

ENGLISH VERSION:
I suspect and hope that Prong needs no introduction even to the newer generation. In the 90’s, guitarist/vocalist/brain Tommy Victor created great stuffs, and I regard their Cleansing album as their very best but all materials are perfectly alright. After their split-up, Tommy played in Danzig and Ministry, taking some influence from the new colleagues, and he does use thiat in the new Prong mterial.
I had no idea what the new Prong record could include but I trusted Tommy, and that he’d pack the record with heavy riffs. This would not be a problem, there are cool riffs and, at times, memorable choruses, but the main thing that determines the music and mood is electronic, with a strong techno/industrial influence. It’s a bit like as if the whole thing would be injected to Prodigy. I could have even suspected such a thing from the album title, but I went through the stuff several times without any prior information. As it later turned out (after completing the tracklist for the review), this is the remix of 2007’s Power Of The Damager CD. Of this latter record, there were some reviews saying it was a plain stuff (I also found it not too memorable) so this entire remix album was unnecessary to commit (to intentionally use such a negative word).
The songs show that, regarding the melodies and vocal style, the years spent with Danzig have not passed without any impact, and the love for electronic stuff could be even deeper in Ministry.
One of the highlight of the CD is the monotonous (as the other tracks) yet relatively rich in melodies The Banishment in two versions. Power Of The Damager starts off with a good theme, but after this it turns plain and empty, in which real instruments only colour the picture. Despite its strange ideas, 3rd Option is one of the better and guitar-centered songs, while Pure Ether is hard techo/trance or whatever. And, although, Message Inside Of Me is not definitely for rock ears, I’m sure there are parties where guys on acid would like that. Looking For Them is also a more memorable one with a melodic riff and chorus, while Spirit Guide is a nerve-tearing industrial set of noises. But it has no spirit in it, that’s for sure. Changing Ending Trouble Times is a bit more metal with catchy, floating synth themes in the middle, while in the closing Bad Fall it”s the violin that can be mentioned or picked out.
The sound of the bass is over-effected, slurping, bubbling in almost all tracks, and here and there the vocals also got some effect, and the guitars have no balls, they do not have any weight, not even when they could have.
Due to the monotony, the tracks sound alike, it can easily be a mass but it’s possible those more well-versed in electronic music will notice the differences in rhythms, sounds, which fail to reach me. I guess this material is not my stuff. Maybe, I could digest 3-5 tracks somehow, but this is too much for me. And boring. And, unfortunately, very boring. I could even say it’s a senseless release, but Tommy and Al surely know why they released it. If I take the experience the stuff has given me, I could rate it a 3-4 point stuff, but taking into consideration the work put into it, and the fact that there can be people who’ll like this, it’s 5 points by my goodwill.
