Az utóbbi időben több lehetőségem volt számos olaszországi bandával megismerkednem, és nyugtáztam magamban, hogy rengeteg minőségi munka érkezik arról a földről. Szinte mindenfajta stílus képviselteti magát, és nem elhanyagolható tény az sem, hogy gombamód szaporodnak a friss zenekarok is. Most ismét egy új névvel gazdagodott az olasz metal szintér, hisz tavaly adta ki bemutatkozó anyagát a melodikus doom\gothic metalban utazó nagyon hangzatos nevű Resonance Room. A „Unspoken” című album borítója már előrevetíti, hogy nem valami vidám muzsikára számíthatunk és ez a korong végighallgatása után maximálisan be is igazolódik.
A lemez majd egy órája, atmoszférikus, szomorú, melankolikus zenét rejt, melyről olyan bandák jutnak eszembe, mint a régebbi Katatonia, vagy a szintén zseniális brit Anathema. A lemez hangulatában közel áll az említett két csapathoz, viszont zenei megoldásokban attól eltérő. Jó dolog az, hogy nem hiányoznak innen a néha vastagon megszólaló gitárok sem, és a nagyrészt középtempóban zakatoló számokban a billentyűs hangszer is vastagon jelen van. A zene nem olyan tömény, és letisztult jellege miatt bárki azonosulni tud vele, aki fogékony az effajta muzsikára. Viszont az is feltűnt, hogy néha hangszeres kiállásokat/megoldásokat is észrevenni, melyből arra lehet következtetni, hogy enyhe progresszív jelleget is akarnak kölcsönözni a muzsikának. Persze ezt még nem nevezném teljesen progresszívnek, de színesítésnek, ötletnek nem rossz. A zenekar legnagyobb hangulati mestere kétségkívül az énekes, Alessandro Consoli, kinek hangja olyan sötét tónussal bír, mely tökéletesen egybeforr a zenei búskomor jellegével. Igaz néha kicsit bizonytalannak érzem a hangját, de egy első lemezes bandánál ez még elnézhető.
Rátérve a lényegre, hogy mégis milyenek az „Unspoken”-en szereplő dalok? Hát nem azt mondom, hogy mindegyik tökéletes, de akad közöttük egy-két kiemelkedőbb darab is. Ilyen a rövid címadó felvezető után érkező „Escape”, melyben tökéletes összhangba forr a vészjósló és mélabús hangulat. A dalban szép zongora is helyet kapott, és a zúzós gitárok is végig ott bujkálnak a nóta szerkezetében. Aztán a harmadik „Far from Grace” még jobbra sikerült. Itt még a refrén is emlékezetes hihetetlen szomorú tónussal bír. Zeneileg is ez az egyik legjobb tétel. Meg kell még említenem az egyik legösszetettebb darabot, a monumentális több mint 8 perces „Maybe You Are…”. A lassabb részeket zúzós gitárok váltják fel, a billentyű pedig érdekes hangszíneket is hoz. Ez egy tökéletes dal arra, hogy ez ember elmerüljön ebben a sötét világban. A másik legjobb tétel a „Frost And Emptiness”, mely szintén emlékezetes refrénjével hódit, de nem elhanyagolhatóan egy gyönyörű szóló is helyet kap benne. Ez a dal tényleg fájdalmasan szép, mint ahogy ez az egész lemez.
A Resonance Room egy kifejezetten jó koronggal jelentkezett, melyre, igaz az újdonság jellege nem mondható el, de a fejlődés lehetősége ott van a felszín alatt. Attól függetlenül, hogy ez igazából nem az én zeném, az olaszok maximálisan meggyőztek. A stílus hívei feltétlenül járjanak utána a zenekarnak. Én úgy gondolom, ködös őszi napokon (is) hű társ lehet az „Unspoken”.

ENGLISH VERSION:
Recently, I’ve had the chance to get familiar with more Italian bands and I concluded that a lot of quality bands come from that land. Almost all genres represent themselves and that is also an important fact that there are a lot of newborn acts as well. Now, the Italian metal scene has been enriched by a new name since Resonance Room, with a cool name, released their debut of melodic doom/gothic metal last year. The cover of Unspoken projects us that we aren’t in for some joyful music and listening to the disc, it gets verified.
The almost one hour playing time of the record hides atmospheric, sad, melancholic music reminding of bands like older Katatonia, or the also ingenious British Anathema. Regarding its mood, the record is close to those mentioned bands, however, it is different concerning the musical means. It’s a good thing that the thick guitars are not missing here either, and in the mostly mid-paced songs the keyboards are also very present. Due to the not too concentrated and clear-out anyone can be identified with the music if he/she’s receptive to such music. However, I also noticed that there are also breaks/ideas due to which it can be felt that they would like to add some progressive touch to the music too. Of course, I wouldn’t name this entirely progressive but as a colouring, idea, it’s not bad. Obviously, the biggest mood master of the band is their singer, Alessandro Consoli whose voice has such a dark tone which perfectly blends together with the grave aura of the music. True, here and there I feel his voice to be a bit uncertain but it’s alright for a debuting band.
Getting to the point, how are the songs of Unspoken? Well, I”m not saying they’re all perfect, but there are some outstanding among them. Such is the second one titled Escape after short, introduction-like title track in which the menacing and bittersweet moods perfectly melt together. There’s a nice piano in the song too, and the raw guitar are also hiding in the structure all the way. Then the third track, Far from Grace is even better. Here also the chorus is very memorable and unbelievable sad. I have to mention also the most complex piece, the monumental, more than eight-minute long Maybe You Are… The slower parts alternate with raw guitars, and the synth brings interesting tones. It’s a perfect track to be immersed in this dark world. The other great song is Frost And Emptiness which also conquers with its memorable chorus but, it must also be mentioned, there”s a beautiful solo in it too. This track is really painfully beautiful as so is the entire album.
Resonance Room have come up with an explicitly good album. True, this isn’t too novel but the promise of development is there, under the surface. Despite of this not really being my music, the Italians convinced my fully. Fans of the genre should check them out by all means. I think that Unspoken can be a fateful companion on misty Autumn days.
