Jonas Raskolnikov Christiansen áll eme underground norvég black metal banda mögött, kinek neve a Koldbrann és Disiplin soraiból lehet ismerős. A hordában még volt Taake tagok is felsorakoznak. Még 1997-ben kelt életre a formáció, mely egészen idáig 8 demót (!!!) és két EP-t jelentetett meg. Tehát egy igazi földalatti pályát tudhat magáénak a Slavia. Most viszont hosszú várakozás után elkészült az első nagylemez, mely a „Strength And Vision” címet kapta.
A korong teljes egészében a régi black metal szellemében fogant. Csiszolatlan hangzás, mélyen dörgő basszusgitár, kásás, szinte fület sértő gitárhangzás. A dob is valahol a pokol legmélyén dohog, csak egy-két cint hallani tisztán. A riffek nem túl bonyolultak, de a kellő hangulat süt a dalokból, és a sötét atmoszféra egy percre sem hagyja nyugodni a hallgatót. Az ének is tipikus nyers károgás. Mindez persze nem újdonság, viszont eme norvég zenekar tartogat nekünk meglepetéseket, méghozzá azt, hogy szívesen építenek a dalokban egészen nem odaillő dolgokat is. Kezdem ott, hogy a híres cseh zeneszerző Kilencedik Szimfóniájával indul a „Pissdrained Castles of Gold”. Hát erre mindent lehet mondani, de semmiképpen sem azt, hogy hagyományőrző lenne. Sőt a dal végét meg valami indulóféleség zárja. Aztán a klasszikus műből merített kezdés a „Divided by Three”-re is elmondható, aminek végét meg már valami arab dobtéma zárja. Igazából nem mindegyik dalban vannak ilyenek, de ez nem is baj, mert akkor nem lenne ilyen éles a kontraszt és ezáltal elsiklana az ember az ilyen megoldások felett.
A nótákat a szélvész tempó mellett középtempós témák is tarkítják, pl.: az egyik kedvenc dalomban a „Not Even Human Fucking Beings”-ben. Vannak még kiemelkedő nóták, mint pl. az igazi nyersen riffelős „The Ancient Light”, vagy a végtelenül kegyetlen „The Abyss Desecrator”. Ezek után meg senki ne csodálkozzon a furcsa szinte dallamos akusztikus levezetőn a „Trifolium Repens”-en. Megmondom őszintén nekem nagyon bejön ez a korong, nyersességével, hangulatával, és egyediségre törekvésével, persze nem stílusteremtő, de az igazi black metal hívők érdeklődésére méltán tarthat számot.

Jonas Raskolnikov Cristiansen stands behind this Norwegian black metal band who can be known from the Koldbrann and Disiplin. There are also members in the band from the Taake. The band was founded back in 1997 which has until now 8 demos (!!!) and two EPs. Therefore, Slavia is a real underground band. After a long period of time the first full-length album „Strength and Vision” came out.
The whole album was written according to the path of the ancient black metal. The sound is rugged; the bass is mumbling in the depth, the sound of the guitar is slushing and nearly ear-splitting. Drums are tramping somewhere in the depths of hell, only some cymbals can be heard clearly. Riffs are not so difficult, but the proper feeling is coming from the tracks; the dark atmosphere does not let the audience have a rest even for a single moment. The vocals are the typical, harsh shrieking. This is, of course, not a novelty, but this Norwegian black metal band have surprises in the store for us. For example, they like to build things into the tracks, which do not fit in this area at all. I begin only with the fact that „Pissdrained Castles of Gold” starts with the Ninth Symphony of the famous Czech composer. We can say anything about it, but it is traditional. And what is more, the end of this track is finished by a march-like motif. The beginning originating from a classic play is also present in the „Divided by Three”, which is finished by some kind of Arabic drum theme. There are not such solutions in every track, but it is not a problem as then the contrast would not be so sharp, and the listener would easily pass these solutions.
The storm-like tempo songs are interspersed by middle tempo themes, e.g. in one of my favourite song „Not Even Human Fucking Beings. There are other prominent songs, e.g. the harshly riffing „The Ancient Light” or the extremely brutal „The Abyss Desecrator”. After these nobody should wonder about the strange, nearly melodic outro of the „Trifolium Repens”. To tell the truth, I like this album very much due to its harshness, it’s feeling and its aims to be unique. It does not renew the genre, but it deserves the attention of real black metal fans.
