A Swallow The Sun neve számomra a Moonsorrow turné kapcsán volt ismerős. Sajnos arra a koncertre nem tudtam eljutni, de most egy kicsit kárpótolom magam emiatt, hisz’ most végre sikerült közvetlen közelről is megismerkednem a finnek zenéjével, méghozzá a tavalyi lemezük segédletével, mely a Hope címet viseli. Ez már a harmadik korongja a finn hatosnak. A zenét a melodikus doom / death határmezsgyéjén kell elképzelni. Persze manapság rengeteg zenekar mozog ebben a stílusban, mégis a Swallow The Sun egy igen ígéretes csapatnak tűnik.
Ami elsőre megfog a muzsikában, hogy hihetetlenül át van itatva északi hangulatú gitárjátékkal és harmóniákkal. Minden nótát körülveszi az éteri hangulat és egy magával ragadó atmoszféra. A nyolc dal kellő igényességgel kidolgozott témákból tevődik össze. Éppúgy megtalálhatók itt az elszállós részek, mint ahogy a kemény földbedöngölő riffek. A billentyűs hangszer arányát sikerült kellően eltalálni, néha a háttérben megbújva aljasul kúszik bele az ember fülébe, de hatásfokozásként hirtelen előtérbe is tud kerülni (halld pl.: „These Hours of Despair”).
A váltott dallamos / hörgős ének is teljesen jól passzol ehhez a zenei világhoz. Ami miatt pedig teljesen padlót fogtam, az a hihetetlen gitárjáték, ami tényleg minden elismerést megérdemel. Szinte nem telik úgy el dal, hogy az ember ne kapná fel a fejét valami jó kis megoldásra, melyeket Juha Raivio és Markus Jämsen gitárosok hihetetlen érzékkel szólaltatnak meg. A középtempót sehol sem lépik át, de azért akad egy-két gyorsabb rész is, mint ahogy tömény, igazi ólomsúlyú belassulás is.
Dalokat nem tudok kiemelni a lemezről, mert mindegyik a helyén van. Talán a „The Justice of Suffering”-gel kivételt tennék, mert ebben a Katatonia-ból Jonas Renkse vendégeskedik, és hát nem kell mondanom, hogy mihelyt elkezd énekelni, a libabőr abban a pillanatban le van vajazva…őrület. A hangzás teljesen professzionális, mint ahogy a kiállítása a lemeznek is az. Számomra mindenképp a jövő egyik nagy ígérete a Swallow The Sun, és most, hogy végre jön az ősz / tél, rengeteget fog nálam forogni ez a lemez. Nem stílusújító, de a lehető legteljesebb igényességgel felvértezett hibátlan mű a „Hope”. Ha infóim nem csalnak, most jelent meg egy új Ep-jük, a „Plague of Butterflies”, azt hiszem, érdemes lesz abba is belefülelni.

ENGLISH VERSION:
The band Swallow The Sun was already familiar for me, they were supporters at the Moonsorrow tour. Sadly, I didn’t attend that show so time has come for compensation, I’ve became acquainted with the Finnish group’s music at last by their album „Hope” which was released in last year. This is the third full-length of the band. The music is kinda between melodic doom and death metal. Of course, there are many bands within this genre but I think that Swallow The Sun is a really promising formation.
The guitar themes are having a nordic atmosphere so they’ve enchanted me at first sight. Each song is surrounded by ethereal atmosphere. All eight songs are very well-written. We can find here both atmospheric soft parts and very heavy groundshaking riffs. The sound of the keyboards is mixed at the proper rate, sometimes it’s just softly crawling into your ears, the other times it’s coming out from the background making the atmosphere stronger (as it does in „These Hours of Despair”).
They properly switch the clean and growling vocal style and both absolutely fit into this soundscape. But in top of everything, the incredible guitar playing just blew my had off, it’s absolutely creditable! There is not a single song lacking the good ideas which were provided with full of feelings by the two guitarists Juha Raivio and Markus Jämsen. They never pass through the mid-tempo, however, there are some faster parts, but also slow and heavy themes.
I cannot highlight any song from this album, each is smooth. But if I have to choose any, I would mention „The Justice of Suffering” because it features Jonas Renske from Katatonia and I don’t have to say that when he sings goosebumps are running over my skin. The sound is absolutely professional and it’s also true for the album’s outlook. For me, Swallow The Sun is a new promise, and I know that I’ll play this album repeatedly because fall/winter is coming. „Hope” won’t reform the genre, but it’s definitely of high standards. And as far as I know they’ve just released a new EP titled „Plague of Butterflies”, well, I think I should give that record a listen too.
