Az orosz fiatalokból álló zenekar külsőségeiben elég megtévesztő. A tagokról ránézésre talán senki nem gondolná, hogy epikus viking metalt játszanak, inkább valamiféle metalcore/nu metal banda tagjainak tűnnek. Ennek ellenére elég egyedi zenét játszanak a viking metal keretein belül.
A dalok jelentős része valamilyen kapcsolatban van a tengerrel, a végtelen óceánnal, erre utal az albumcím is, hiszen Njord (vagy Njörd, a tengerek skandináv istenének) a vidékei, „földjei” a tengerek. A zenekar akár a vezető, Lord Volland egyszemélyes projektje is lehetne, hiszen ő szerzett minden zenét, ő írta az összes szöveget, ő énekel, tolja a ritmus- és a vezető gitárokat és a billentyűket, emellett több dal basszus szekcióját és egyik dal harmonika játékát is maga játszotta, sőt erősen kivette a szerepét a felvételekből és mixelésből is. Le a kalappal előtte!
A zenekar amúgy négytagú, hisz a vezető mellett egy basszusgitáros (Ül), egy dobos (Alwar) és egy harmonikáshölgy (Oksi) is részt vesz a banda munkájában. A számok erősen szimfonikus beütésűek, ez nagyon különleges atmoszférát teremt, ahogy a szokatlan énekmód is.
Nem is nagyon lehet besorolni a bandát a hagyományos viking bandák közé, dalaikban nagyon sok szintetizátor játék van, de ez abszolút nem rontja az összképet. Például a Sudden Arise vége kifejezetten hangulatos lett tőle. A komoly mitológiai számok mellett, amik a tenger csodáiról (Against the Winds, From the Seas), esetleg a viking hősök hajós temetéséről (Tale of the Immortals) vagy éppen Grönland vikingek általi felfedezéséről (Gunbjorn – Birth of Skerriz) szólnak, van egy-két humppázós, iszogatós nóta is, mint az inrtumentális Metsanhumppa! vagy a Spellful Cup. Ezek egy folk/viking metal album elkerülhetetlen kellékei manapság, de az orosz harcosok ízlésesen oldották meg, nem estek túlzásba és semmiképp sem váltak sablonos mulatós-csujjogatós folk metal bandává.
Megemlítendő, hogy a borító és a booklet nagyon szép és eltalált lett, nem hiába dolgozott rajta egy grafikus mestercsapat.
Az orosz epikus viking csapat egyedi stílusával tovább gazdagítja a népies metal műfaját. Lehet, hogy a tipikus hősies-iszogatós metalok kedvelőinek nem lesz a kedvence a zenekar, – nekem sem lett az, bár én szeretem az ilyen érdekes újításokat – mégis érdemes belehallgatni a zenéjükbe, hiszen nagyon különlegesek és kevés zenekar tud ilyen változatosan körüljárni egy témát (itt konkrétan a tenger témakörét). Persze sokadik hallgatásra a lemez egysíkúvá válik, de ez nem az a nem az a könnyen emészthető stílus, amit az ember tízszer rak be egymás után a lejátszóba.

ENGLISH VERSION:
The image of the band of young Russians is really deceitful. If we see the members, maybe nobody think that they play Epic Viking Metal, they rather seem to be the members of some kind of Metalcore/Nu Metal band. Even so, they play a really unique music inside the genre of Viking Metal.
Most of the songs are in connection with the sea, the endless ocean; the title of the album denotes this, because lands of Njord (or Njörd, the Scandinavian god of seas) are the seas. The band could be the one-man project of the band leader Lord Volland, because he composed all the music, wrote all the lyrics, he sings, plays the rhythm and lead guitars and the keyboards, and along with this he plays bass section in more songs and accordion in one track and he also played a main role in recording and mixing, too. Hats off to him!
The band has four members in other way, because a basser (Ül), a drummer (Alwar), and a female accordionist (Oksi) participate in the work of the band along with the band leader. The songs are strongly symphonic-influenced; it makes a very special atmosphere, as the extraordinary sort of singing, too.
We can’t classify the band to the traditional Viking bands, they use very many keyboard effects in their tracks, but this absolutely doesn’t abate the image. For example, the end of the Sudden Arise became real good because of it. Along with the serious tracks about mythology, which are about the wonders of the seas (Against the Winds, From the Seas), or even about the exploration of Greenland by the Vikings (Gunbjorn – Birth of Skerriz), there are some drinking humppa-like melodies, like the instrumental Metsanhumppa! or the Spellful Cup. These are the absolutely necessary parts of a Folk/Viking album nowadays, but the Russian warriors solved this thing very tastefully. They didn’t overdo it, so they didn’t become a faceless partying folk metal band.
The cover and booklet are very nice and good, didn’t work on it a professional group in vain.
The Russian Epic Viking band enriches the big genre of Folk(ish) Metal with its unique style. Maybe they won’t become the favourite band of the fans of heroic and/or drinking metal, – they also didn’t became my favourite one, albeit I like the interesting innovations like their music – but we should listen to their music, because they are real especial and just a few bands can walk round one topic (here the topic of sea) so variously. Of course after many listening, it becomes a bit flat, but this isn’t the music, that should be in the player ten times again.
