Üdv Magyarországról! Milyen az élet Illinois-ban?
Először szeretnék üdvözölni minden magyar rajongónkat. Másodszor elmondanám, hogy az illinois-i élet olyan, mint bárhol máshol, nincs semmi különbség, a farmoktól kezdve, a hatalmas épületeken, gettókon és barlangokon át, van minden. Az egyetlen különleges dolog itt, a síkságok felett és a homokban megbúvó gonosz jelenléte.
A zenéteket „redneck black metal”-ként definiáljátok. A „redneck” gondolom abból a környezetből adódik, amiben élsz, de hogy kerültél kapcsolatba a black metallal?
Igazad van, olyan helyen élünk, amit a SEMMI vesz körül. Farmok és más semmi. Játszom egy country bandában is és jobban szeretem a természetet, mint a várost, ez tesz „farmerré”. Egyébként ezt a baromságot a városiak találták ki. A THE MERCYFUL FATE és VENOM albumokon nőttem fel, majd a 90-es években rákattantam a DARKTHRONE nevű szarra. Ez a black metálos múltam.
Mi ösztönzött arra, hogy ilyen szokatlan zenét kezdj játszani?
Elég sok whisky.
Mi a zenétek mondanivalója?
Azt próbáljuk tudatni, hogy a vadhús nagyon finom és az embereknek több őz húst és halat kéne enniük, éjjelente pedig a hallgassák a Sátán suttogását.
Kinek szól ez a zene? A „true” black metalosok hogy viszonyulnak hozzátok?
Ki a célközönség? Forró csajok, haver. Bassza meg a „true” akármi. Ez zene, ami a hangfalakból jön. Olyan, mint egy jó film, úgyhogy hívjuk audió szórakozásnak. Ez baromság, és jobb, ha megtudja a sok kibaszott fasz, hogy én 100-szor jobban értek az okkult zenék szerzéséhez, mint BÁRKI MÁS A METÁL SZÍNTÉREN, úgyhogy basszák meg.
Egyetértesz azzal, hogy a „redneck”-ség ellenére kell egy bizonyos intelligencia ahhoz, hogy valaki befogadjon titeket?
Igen, te egy ilyen zseni lehetsz. Egyébként nem akarom, hogy hallgasd a kibaszott zenémet.
A Blood Cult 1994-ben alakult, mégis csak két nagylemezt adtatok ki eddig. Fejlődtetek, előreléptetek valamiben a kezdeti időkhöz képest? Egyáltalán, fontos ez?
Nem fontos, de a korábbi dolgaink sokkal „technikásabbak” voltak, mint a mostaniak. Van néhány szám, ami érdekes felépítésű és komplikáltabb riffek vannak bennük.
J.R., a te nevedhez fűződik még pár formáció, amik szintén olyan hatást keltenek, hogy magasról teszel a (akár underground) trendekre. Ezeknek a projekteknek jellemzően milyen a fogadtatása? Van egy kifejezett réteg, akiket meg tudsz szólítani velük?
Rohadtul nem érdekel, hogy mit gondolnak. De értékelem, ha valakinek tetszik.
Mi a véleményed a black metal színtérről és a hozzá kapcsolódó ideológiákról? Nekem sokszor az az érzésem, hogy kezdenek önmaguk paródiájává válni.
Igen, paródia. Nem lesz még egy Darkthrone, vagy King Diamond. A hősök öregednek és az igazi rajongóknak, droghasználó hallgatóknak nem maradt semmi, amíg létre nem jött a bandám!!
Amerikán kívül mennyire érdeklődnek irántatok?
A semmi közepén vagyunk, de mindenhol vannak kis rajongói közösségek, ami mindig elkápráztat, amikor rágondolok, ezért nem akarok rágondolni, ezért nem stresszelem magam azzal, hogy kielégítsek mindenkit.
Elképzelhetőnek tartasz egy európai turnét?
A lehetőség ott van, ha van rá pénz. Addig is kibaszott country-t fogok játszani klubokban és kocsmákban. Nem hiszem, hogy elvesztegettük volna az időt azzal, hogy ingyen koncerteztünk. Imádjuk ezt a zenét, de könnyebb, ha nem kell turnézni, bár, ha már így felhoztad, imádnék turnézni.
Dolgozol azért, hogy jobban befusson a zenekar, vagy szándékosan megmaradtok az undergroundban?
Semmi sem számít és semmi sem lep már meg. Sosem gondoltam, hogy olyan kiadónál leszek, mint mondjuk az Odin, úgyhogy… Próbálunk a bandával eredeti zenét játszani és a sors keze majd intézi a dolgokat.
Köszönöm a válaszokat, és hogy időt szakítottál az interjúra! Végezetül csak annyit mondjál még el az olvasóknak, hogy mi a Blood Cult jövője, mik a terveid az elkövetkezendő hónapokra/évekre?
Nos, idén egy jobb, nagyobb kukorica rituálét tervezünk. Több mint 160 ember gyűlik majd a földekre. Ezen kívül… várnotok kell!!!

Welcome to Hungary! What’s life like in Illinois?
First I want to say hello to all of our metal fans in Hungary… Second, I want to tell you that life is the same in Illinois as it is anywhere else, no different, from the farms to the high rise buildings to the ghettos to the caverns, this place is only unique when you experience the true evil that floats over the plains, and within the sands.
You define your own music as „redneck black metal”. I suppose „redneck” is originated from the enviroment you are living in, but what about black metal, how did you get into it?
You are right, we live in the area surrounded by NOTHING. Farms and nothing else. I am also in a country band and enjoy nature more than the city, so this makes a „redneck.” That’s a stinking cityfolk term anyway ! So I grew up with THE MERCYFUL FATE albums and the VENOM and then in the 1990s I enjoyed this new shit called DARKTHRONE. That’s the black metal past..
What’s keeping you motivated to do music like this?
Plenty o’ whiskey.
What is behind your music, does it have a special message to share?
The thing we are trying to convey is that venison tastes real good and more people should be eating deer, plus go fishing alot if you can.. and listen to the winds of Satan at night
Who are that target audiences? What is the opinion of the „true” black metallers about you?
Who is the target? Hot chicks, man. Fuck „true” anything; this is music, it’s something that goes through speakers and is enjoyed just like a movie or anything else would be, so lets call it Audio Entertainment… This is not bullshit and I wanna let you fucking motherfuckers, people out there, know that I am 100 percent more qualified not only in practice but in pure experience to create music based around the occult, more seriously and each moment involved than EVERY OTHER PERSON IN THE METAL SCENE so fuck them

Do you agree despite the term „redneck” that you need a certain level of intelligence to enjoy your music?
Yes you have to be a genius and.. otherwise I don’t want you listening to my fuckin music
Blood Cult was formed back in 1994, although you have only released two full length records so far. Have you developed, got forward, since the early days? Is this important at all?
It isn’t important BUT the earlier stuff was more „technical” than the stuff we’re doing. There are some songs with weirder structures and complicated riffs comparably..
J.R., you are known some facts that give the impression that you don’t give a damn about the trends (even undergourbd). What do others think about these projects?
I don’t give a shit what they think, simply put…. THOUGH I APPRECIATE those who enjoy it.
What’s your opinion about the black metal scene and the ideologies behind them? Sometimes I get the feeling that they become their own parody.
It is now a parody, yes. There will not be another Darkthrone nor another King Diamond.
The heroes are getting older and nothing was left for true fans and mildly appreciative magic using and drug -enhancing listeners until my band was around!!!
What’s the interest like outside the States?
It’s next to nothing but we do have small communities of fans almost everywhere and that amazes me each time I start to think about it, which makes me quit thinkin’ bout it so I don’t get stressed out trying to please the whole lot…
Is it possible that you will go on tour in Europe?
The possibility is there if there’s some money for it, until then I’m gonna fucking play country in bars and clubs around here… Not sure we’d waste time playing shows for no money. We love this music but its much easier on us to not tour, although I fuckin’ love that you asked whether we would
Are you working on to become more and more popoular, or you intentions are to be more underground?
Nothing matters, and nothing would surprise me any more, I never thought I’d be on a label like Odin’s so… We’ll just stick to working on being a band playing original music and let the
unwavering hands of the pretty fates decide what happens.

Well, first we have a better, bigger, corn ritual planned for this year and there will be more than 160 people gathered in the middle of the fields… other than that… have to wait!!!
