The Lou Gramm Band azonos című lemezét vehetik kezükbe idén a melodikus rock rajongói. Bár ilyen, „a zenekar neve egyben az album címe is” verzióban első lemezes előadók szoktak megjelenni, Lou Gramm nem ma kezdte, és ez a műfajon is jól hallatszik. Még a hard rock jelző is túlzásnak tűnik, a metáltól pedig igen távol áll az album anyaga, de nagyrészt rockos, és szinte egyáltalán nem popos.
Az énekes rengeteg, szinte minden létező zenei területen kipróbálta már magát, népszerű rádióbarát zenék, reklámok, de a legfontosabb, hogy ő volt a Foreigner énekese. Ez az ága zenei életének a mostani albumon is jól hallható. A műfaji okoskodástól eltekintve azt lehet mondani, egy Foreigner színvonalú és hangzásvilágú, dallamvilágú album született, ami nem kis dolog, és a magam részéről még a metálzene kizárólagos szeretete mellett is igen nagyra értékelem a rockzene ezt az ágát.
A zenekarban az énekes két testvére is játszik, Ben Gramm dob, és Richard Gramm basszusgitáron. Igazi „családi” zenekar, a szó jó értelmében, mert „gagyizásnak” nyoma sincs a dalokban. Nem szeretném egyenként felsorolni az énekes érdemeit és díjait, közreműködésével készült albumok eladási adatait, legyen elég annyi, hogy koránál és tudásánál fogva valószínűleg egyedülálló statisztikával dicsekedhet. Ezek az adatok csak számok maradnának, ha mostani családi „vállalkozásában” nem tudna múltjához méltó zenét csinálni. Tud. Ez a zene változatos, érdekes, virtuóz, és tökéletesen szól. Bizonyos szempontból felüdülés az ellaposodó, egyforma, felejthető modern rockzenei albumok végeláthatatlan sorában, és bár az elején említettem, melodic rock, amelyre még a hard rock jelző is túl kemény, mégis azt mondom, ez az album egyedi, remek feeling, zeneszerzői zsenialitás, és utánozhatatlanul remek, érzékeny énekhang keveredik modern, de nem öncélú és ötlettelen zenei megoldásokkal. Aki ki tudja kapcsolni egy pillanatra metál-zenei függőségét :), és nagyra értékeli a dallamokat, a könnyen megjegyezhető vokálokat, amelyek nem vesznek el a slágeresség és rádióbarát verziók lebutított középszerűségében, annak ez az album igen jó felüdülést nyújt majd. Kortalanul hallgatható, egyformán jó dalok sora hallható a lemezen. A maga módján vintage, a maga módján ennek ellenére is modern, újdonságokra és effektekre is nyitott zene ez, amelyben sok műfaj keveredése felfedezhető, de minden a helyén van benne. A műfajában a legnagyobbakat idéző zene ez, a dallamos rock műfaj egyik legnagyobb énekesétől. Bon Jovi sokkal poposabb, ha valaki már unja az amerikai popmetált, a rádióbarát de semmitmondó gitárriffeket, ezerszer ismételt sablonokat, ez az anyag a kedvencei között lesz.

This year, fans of melodic rock can get the record of The Lou Gramm Band with the same title in their hands. Although records with the same title as the band’s name usually come from debut albums, Lou Gramm is no beginner, and this can also be heard by the genre. Even the term hard rock sounds a bit exaggerating and the material stands very far from metal, but mainly it’s rockish, and by no means pop.
The vocalist has tried himself at a lot of areas like popular, radio-friendly music, ads, but, most importantly, he was the singer of Foreigner. That branch of his musical career can be heard on this record also. Aside from stylistic reasoning, we can say that an album of Foreigner-standard and Foreigner-sonority and has born which is a big deal, and, as far as I am concerned, I highly appreciate this branch of rock music beside my exclusive love for metal.
There’re the two brothers of the singer playing in the band, Benn Gramm on drums, and Richard Gramm on bass. It’s a real „family-band”, but in the positive sense of the word, because there isn’t any silliness in the tracks. I wouldn’t like to list here all the merits, awards and record sales of the albums he’s participated of the singer, let it be enough that by his age and skills ha most probable has a unique statistics. These data could be just numbers if in this formation he could not make music worthy of his musical past. He can. This music is varied, interesting, virtuoso and sounds perfect. In a way, it’s like a fresh breeze in the endless flood of boring, flat, and forgettable modern rock albums, and though I mentioned in the beginning it’s melodic rock, to which even the hard rock label is too hard, I still say that this album is unique, excellent, with ingenious composing skills, in which excellent, emotional vocals blend with modern but not art for art’s sake and free of ideas solutions. Those who can turn off his/her metal-dependency for a moment, and highly appreciate melodies, memorable vocals that do not get lost in the mediocrity of popularity and dull radio-versions, the record will provide a nice time. Timeless, equally good tracks are on the album. In its own way, it’s vintage, yet modern, and open to novel things, effects in which a lot of things are blended but everything’s on its place. The music evokes the best names of the genre made by one of the greatest singers of melodic rock genre. Bon Jovi is way more popish, so if you have enough of the American popmetal, or radio-friendly but good for nothing guitar riffs, stereotype motives, this could be among your faves.
