Az új albumot megelőző két lemez óta követem többé-kevésbé a germán Black Messiah zenei munkásságát. Körülbelül innentől sorolható be ugyanis a viking-metal kategóriába, bár ahogy vesszük. Véleményem szerint nem skatulyázható zenéről van szó, legalábbis nem rajongok különösebben a sablonokért. A Black Messiah esetében sem beszélnék kifejezetten sablonosságról, hiszen leszámítva a műfaj nagyjainak hatását, a zenében mégis felfedezhetőek egyedi, sajátos ízek, melyek, legalábbis számomra, könnyen felismerhetővé teszik, ha „fekete messiással” van dolgom. Így történt ez most is, azonnal felismerhetővé vált a tipikus hangzás, az ismerős dallamok. Bár kiemelkedőnek sosem tartottam a zenekart, nem túlzok ha azt állítom, igenis hozzátett a műfajhoz, még ha csak egy aprócska darabot is. A világot eddig sem váltotta meg és ezzel a lemezzel sem fogja, ám rendíthetetlenül tartja magát a középmezőnyben, annál sem több, sem kevesebb. Az előző lemezen főként a hegedűszólók nyerték el tetszésemet, leginkább a Vivalditól kölcsönzött dallam, ami szerintem kifejezetten jól sikerült, így természetesen most is alig vártam eme csodás hangszer felbukkanását. Nem is kellett csalódnom, hiszen már a harmadik nótában felcsendült. De nézzük mit is tartogat messiásunk legfrissebb alkotása.
Ezúttal egy koncept albumot hallhatunk, mely narrátori felvezetővel indul angol nyelven, akárcsak egy történelmi film felvezetője. Nagyon meggyőzően kezdődik az egész, ám meglepő módon az angol felvezetőt német nyelvű ének követi, melyet nem igazán tudok hova tenni. Persze, az alapötlet nagyon jó, de így az angol és a német váltakozását hallgatva számonként, egy kicsit kaotikusnak tűnik a lemez. Véleményem szerint vagy-vagy, ha már ilyen klasszul el lett találva a narrátori felvezető, igenis illett volna a szövegeket is ezen a nyelven megírni. Vagy pedig ha ragaszkodnak a német szövegekhez, nem lett volna szégyen németül felvezetni az egyes dalokat sem. De így keverve… Nálam ez sajnos hibapont, főleg, hogy sajnos nem tudok németül, pedig maga a koncepció érdekesnek tűnik. Egyébként magukkal a dalokkal semmi probléma nincsen: ugyanúgy teszik a dolgukat, mint az előző két, hasonló lemezen. Fülbemászó dallamok, nyers énekhang és természetesen az elmaradhatatlan hegedű, mely egyfajta védjegynek tekinthető.
Aki eddig is szívesen hallgatta ezt a zenét, az kifejezetten örömét leli majd az istenek háborúját elmesélő korongban. Korrekt, érdekes momentumokat is rejtő album ez, ám a műfaj szigorúbb hívei eltekinthetnek tőle.

ENGLISH VERSION:
I’ve been following Black Messiah’s work more or less since the previous two albums. It can be labeled as viking metal since those albums, but depends on how we see. In my opinion it cannot be labelled easily, at least I’m personally not fond of labels. I couldn’t really talk about stereotypes in this case as unique touches can be found in the music still, even if it’s of course influenced by the bigger bands of the scene, so this music can be recognised easily. This is how it happened now as well, I recognised the familiar melodies immediately. Though I’ve never thought of the band as extremely unique in the scene, I think I’m right to say that it still adds a tiny part to it. It’s not saved the world until now and will not do it with this album either, but it’s still strongly staying in the middle, not less, not more than that. On the previous album I mostly liked the violin solos the best so of course I was hoping to hear them on this album too. And I wasn’t disappointed as I could already hear it in the third song. Let’s see what the album itself is like then.
This time we can hear a concept album, which starts with narration as it was a prequel to a historical movie. It starts really good but surprisingly, the English prequel is followed by German lyrics which I can’t really understand. Of course the main idea is great but listenning to the two different languages changing from song to song, it’s a little bit chaotic to me. In my opinion it should be either-or, if the narration turned out so good then the lyrics must have been written in the same language, or else what would have been wrong with a German narration? But mixed the two… For me it’s unfortunately a mistake, especially that I can’t understand German, even though the story itself seems interesting to me. As for the songs there’s really no problem with them, they’re just as fine as they were on the previous albums. Nice melodies, raw vocals and of course not to miss the violin as a kind of trademark.
For those who’ve always liked the band, this album will sound great, telling about the war of the gods. Correct album with interesting moments, though I wouldn’t really recommend to the more conservative fans of the scene.
